The top bar that got implemented on the forums like, in the last few hours probably since that's how long I was gone for, is probably one of the better implementations I've seen yet when it comes to top bars.
Small enough to not really notice, but still usable.
Absolutely. I hardly notice it and that's such a good thing. I hate when websites basically include the whole site header.
Oh sweet, I just noticed it myself. Gonna be hella useful - on a tablet, it's harder to open up new tabs, so I'd just hit my threads one at a time, and have to scroll all the way back up to see my next unread thread. This should be much nicer.
Personally I don't really care about cosmetic lootboxes, especially if they're fully obtainable ingame (honestly Valve's key system is kind of a shitty implementation and I prefer Overwatch's, but w/e)
If our options are:
1) Game prices increase to $80+ (this trend is already happening with the rise of premium passes and ultimate editions) or
2) Hats require microtransactions/lootboxes
I choose the latter
Well damn this thing is big

Welcome to the "GPUs as space heaters" club.
It has one less 6-pin input than my current card at least.
gotta get you one of those GPUs where the fans don't spin when idling
it's magical
I have a 290x. Low fan speed is a far off dream.
I have no fans on my 290x Lightning
Can't remember when I last heard the fans on my 1080, typically the case fans and CPU fans will kick in earlier and totally drown it out.
I haven't played anything except WoW in like months, and I cut my WoW playing to the two weekly raids and then if I get @'d on Discord, so not exactly stressing the GPU.
I don't think the tacho LEDs on my vega even indicate load when I play WoW.
But that Windows lock screen though!
1/2 of the LEDs every time.
neat, so as a ham radio operator I have access to AMPRnet, which is an entire /8 block of public IPs reserved for amateur use only. Basically in the 80's some guy on the team creating IP was like "i'll just give this whole block to hams, there's no way we'll ever need these IPs for anything else"
I know have an entire public /24 subnet available for my own exclusive use. Fun.

unrelated but I love your nails
I just spent 3 hours on making a favicon.
Never again.
The magic of being brought up in a household where everyone bites their nails and fingers, its horrible so I just don't do shit to mine.
Man.
Has anyone else been feeling increasingly jaded with tech related stuff?
I used to be pretty excited for the new shinies, even if they were out of my price range for years, but the last few months it's been really hard for me to care at all.
It sucks.
I stopped caring about PC hardware after I got my current setup together.
But now that I have a desktop machine worthy of usage, I've been doing other interesting stuff.
I made a blog a year ago, did 2 posts and stopped. Now I have 4 different posts in my head that I want to research and write. One of them being a subject I want to cover simply because I couldn't find any real answers on Google, it seems like everyone that had the problem just figured it and never wrote about it, because it takes about a minute to check. But it would be nice to have some sort of reference on Google for people planning projects.
Not to mention not everyone has the hardware to check the facts.
I've never really followed computer stuff a whole bunch because I didn't like spending a lot so I never saw the need to keep up to date. I mean I know the difference between a GPU and a PSU but I couldn't tell you what the latest and greatest technology is.
I always find it interesting reading this thread and I'll watch some TinyTomLogan but like Nikomo once I had a computer I basically just stop there. It works, I'm happy.
I hate this so much
Yeah, I'm a compulsive nail-biter. It's not a good look.
So does anyone know how the USB surge protection works on motherboards? A series of USB ports always killed itself for one second every time I put in a new chip into an EEPROM programmer I have and last time I plugged in a USB thumb drive into an USB hub, the whole computer shut itself down like the psu itself shut down
The USB hub only had mouse plugged in at the time because I usually take it with me when I take my laptop somewhere
I'm trying to figure out if it's just surge protector on the board being tripped on the motherboard or if the psu is on its last legs (had WoW in the background at the time)
I feel the need
the need

for speed.
PCB antennas only, max speed for my data plan (50/10). Fired up a Discord voice chat with someone, got our bot to play Russian hard bass, and went to beat a training dummy in WoW because I'd notice packet loss in any of those three.
One little hitch. With PCB antennas. Copper traces on a PCB. When my real antenna arrives, I might switch to 4G.
Reminds me how I usually tape a phone to my window to get internet I use a phone as a router to get backup internet
If my current isp is not going to install fiber in my area (at least Fibre over copper/fiber from box via vdsl) I'm probably going to switch to an unlimited data plan on my current backup internet and use it as a primary for 5 eur extra
If your antennas arrive, could you do some comparison tests how much dedicated antennas make a difference in comparison to PCB traces as antenna? And also if it makes a difference where you place it in the room?
I have 281 trillion more IPv6 addresses than the entire IPv4 address space.
Placement in room might be a bit hard as the antenna is a directional-ish antenna that's designed to be mounted, I'll be mounting it outside my window. The main curiosity there would be seeing if the antenna can punch through the window glass (probably not), and I'll totally test that.
I'm already maxing out my contract (50/10) just with the PCB antennas so there's not much I can do there when it comes to testing.
