brand-new blues are bit too stiff for my liking, but after about 6-months of break-in are super comfortable to me.
I guess I like the decisive force you have to push and the affirming CLICK of them. I'll have to get my hands on a bunch of the other switches, but I can't really see myself liking the low-activation force of the speed series.
Cross post from Building PC thread someone recommended I'd ask here;
Not sure if this is allowed or classed as promotion but if there's a better thread for it move me there or just delete this post but I'm selling my old GTX Gigabyte 8GB 1080 if any of you PC builders here would like one
How much are you looking for it? Friend of mine has been looking to upgrade from his 290x for a while now.
Well eBay fees are a bitch and living in the UK Gumtree isn't ideal, so only around £440 / $583, not sure about import tax though
Oh, I didn't see you were in the UK. Shipping might hurt that a fair bit.
And here I am with only greens, clears, and whites left on my boards. Can't stand those switches with low actuation force.
i love the internet so much
after switching off of my macbook a few years ago, the single feature i missed the most was the quick preview when you hit spacebar, the verge posted something that answered my prayers

Holy crap I've been missing the hell outta this. Thank you for linking it here.
The Windows 10 photo viewer has been pissing me off, but I did find https://nomacs.org/ and it seems to be a good replacement so far. Is anyone else using an alternative?
I still want Picasa Photo Viewer to be maintained, it was the best goddamn thing ever.
I'm looking to get a solid Solder Iron finally. Any suggestions?
Was looking at something like this
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B079VVHPPS/?coliid=I1BTM73X9ZRV0E&colid=2T78P60UU836M&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
You might as well pay the extra $20 and get an entry level Hakko
https://www.amazon.com/Hakko-FX888D-23BY-Digital-Soldering-Station/dp/B00ANZRT4M/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1529909673&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=hakko&dpPl=1&dpID=41p4q888-9L&ref=plSrch
Hakko is the brand in soldering, and has been for decades. Can't go wrong with them.
Looks like a kids toy tbh
That entry level Hako is considered one of the best though, despite its tonka truck look.
Definitely go for something temperature controlled, like that XTronics, or the above mentioned Hakko. I have a Weller WLC-100 and it's a nice entry level unit, but I hate that it's not temperature controlled.
I used to think I was just really bad at soldering when I was using a cheap stick iron, when I bought that Hakko FX-888D things went much smoother. I went from making a mess of through-hole soldering to being able to being reasonably comfortable soldering wires to surface mount pads on an Intel NUC motherboard.
IF ANYONE HERE IS PLANNING ON BUYING A $10 SOLDERING IRON, DON'T!
It's not worth it, they're terrible. Spend the extra money, you'll end up spending less on ruined parts in the long run.
I think I'm pretty good at soldering now so I can only imagine how much of a treat I'm in for once I stop using a fire stick.
I just stick the solder into a fire (like from a lighter) and let it drip into place.
In other news, anyone have any ideas why my laptop stopped working after I resoldered the power jack?
I have a Tenma 21-10115, it's a generic OEM design so you can find it from a lot of different manufacturers.
Best part is that it can fit 900-M tips, so you can buy the knockoff tips from eBay for a dollar per tip, or less.
I haven't had one explode in my face so far. Good for home hobby use.
I have no issues spending more on a better unit if it's warranted. Is it decently easy to use compared to the other temperature controlled models out there?
Yup. Operation is pretty dead simple.
Here's an in-depth EEVBlog review comparing it to a similar Weller.

Btw, Dave mentions it in the video, but do get yourself some chisel type tips in a variety of sizes. You'll thank yourself later.
Another thing I recommend is to get some tip tinner.
https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltronics-FBA_TMT-TC-2-Lead-Tinner-Container/dp/B00NS4J6BY/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1529953797&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=soldering+tin&dpPl=1&dpID=51iwt8SloPL&ref=plSrch
After your soldering tip inevitably becomes all oxidized and grungy, you just dip it in this stuff and it's almost like new again. It lets you use your tips for a looooot longer than if you just bought new tips every time, even with proper care to avoid oxidization.
I basically just re-tin my tips at the start of every session these days.
Dude, thanks for sharing this. I love this feature a ton.
Weller vs Hotwheels
Hakko reminds me of those ugly beige Noctua fans
Gotta stand out some how
Finally started getting my home office all set up now that I'm moved out of a shit apartment and into a decent house.

It's a bit chaotic right now as I went from a nice desk with organizers to an executive style wraparound desk with next to no organization. This is maybe a quarter of the usable space on the desk. Picked up both of those ViewSonic monitors for $15 apiece from the Salvation Army. $30 dual monitor mount from Amazon.
This is just for my work laptop, my gaming space will be downstairs as I will have shitloads of room for VR. Of course, Switch and Game Boy Color are present for, er, extracurricular work activities.
Will do a bit more cable management once I get everything settled. The desk has little clips for cable management, so I want everything set up and plugged in before I start clipping it all together.
My office is just in my room
So my boss's PC has always sounded like a Jet engine after she got it from a local refurbishing center. When I lifted off the air baffle, this is what I'm greeted with.
