yea i've heard all the spiel from /r/googlepixel. i'd never buy a google phone on launch, going to wait for resolutions in the next few hardware batches
While the mic is definitely weird, even on top of a building with high winds, it still did a great job of picking up the music (which honestly wasn't very loud). I was expecting a bunch of wind noise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHCVpI3LuxE Outdoor, ground level, not windy conditions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwXIBoD-oHM And lastly indoor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxJQ3zsDMW8 Still, Pixels aren't too great at video but stabilization is pretty solid.
Yeah, the weird thing that people noticed about the mic while recording videos is if they recorded sound while in the AR mode it seemed to make the mic tons better. At least from what I've heard. I'm sure it's something software related that Google can fix even if they say it's "working as intended".
AR mode?
It's almost midnight, I'm drunk, and I've been playing with magisk to the point my phone doesn't boot anymore =D ~~should have taken a backup first~~
Since I have a new phone my Moto G 2nd Gen has become an emulation machine a bit more capable than my PSP. Should I go for a root/custom rom or is it ok if I just disable stuff?
Can confirm, using microg builds does wonders for performance and battery life.
Yep. My shield tablet actually becomes a usable device with Lineage microG builds. No more waiting 2 minutes for the tablet to become responsive after waking it from deep sleep! I can use a browser and have Youtube running in the background! It's astounding.
That does sound quite good! I'll look into this then
for when you fuck up this badly, this will save you
Found an old Galaxy S1 of mine, what do?
Replace battery and Flash a microg based lineage os on it or something similar, report how it holds up 8 generations later.
Is Lineage OS the way to go? This is the first time I've been hearing about anything MicroG vs the old GApps Pico. It's about time for a reformatting on my Nexus 6P.
You'll wanna use Lineage builds from here: https://lineage.microg.org/
I've been loving and taking care of my S7 Edge all this time and wasn't really thinking about upgrading anytime soon since Samsung (even though being painfully slow and for the most part really incompetent at it) updated it to the Oreo and the latest S experience UI. But recently I've been getting some issues with it that have a high chance of the mainboard being the culprit. So I've thought I'd checkout the S9s they've got at a local electronics, since they've been pretty uncompromising regarding headphone jacks and expendable storage. They didn't have the s9+ which was my main candidate, only the regular and the note 9 but I've tried them anyway and... man I didn't like them at all. Design wise they actually feel like a previous generation compared to the S7E or the Note 7, especially the rounded screen corners are just fucking ugly compared. I don't know what the deal is with them or why Samsung felt the inclusion when they nailed the Note 7's look so nicely with them being straight + the curved screen. I also wasn't happy with the edge of the metal aluminum frame which on the S7s is clean and sanded, which gives you a GREAT grip, premium look and feel. Now they're painted the same color as the whole frame and has this awful lamination/coating which just makes it feel like plastic and overall very cheap. I'm really used to samsung with the curved edge screens and overall functions they've got now, but it kinda made me reconsider to maybe skip and wait out for the next generation - which hopefully won't be an almost carbon copy with some slight additions like the s8 and s9.
Ended up ordering a Note 9 after recommendation. Took a week to deliver from an online store. Turned it on and found a piece of dirt within the display, masquerading as a dead pixel. Probably have to wait two weeks to return the device and then get a new one...
I'm looking to buy a pocophone f1 whenever black friday rolls around. Does amazon usually have sales on specific items like these, or is it more of a "take what you can get" kind of thing?
Anyone with Lineage OS know if Google Pay works on it? Likewise, would TWRP or systemless Magisk work with it as well? (I know Magisk has some patches for safety net) I'm going to make the move this weekend I think and I'd like to get more things out of my wallet and into my phone.
Not sure about google pay but it should work TWRP or any modifications to recovery won't affect safetynet Magisk will pass safetynet as long as you don't install something else that breaks it
Thinking about updating my Pixel to Android 9 for the Night Sight update, but I have heard Pie had caused some heavy battery draining. Does somebody know if this was fixed?
Loads of users are saying it's the Adaptive Battery feature that's draining the battery. Once it's disabled then battery life is back to normal.
haven't had an issue with Pie on my OG Pixel
android is more convenient than apple for me
Been thinking of getting a new phone. My current moto G4 ain’t cutting it nowadays and I think the internal antenna is fucked (super late messages and constant 4g drops) plus the internal battery ain’t holding its charge as well as its used to. Can anyone recommend a decent budget android phone? Ideally £150 max. Not bothered about screen resolution or pixel quality. Just want a phone to send messages, run VLC player music and gmail with a solid battery which is why the Nokia 3.1/5.1 seemed ok. Was also looking at the Honor 7x and 8x for £70 more but something about the UI put me off - do they run similar to Huawei? Can’t help but feel it’s full of bloatware.
Maybe Redmi note 5 ai, if you're concerned with bloat then get an android one device
Are there any good alarm clock apps that aren't easily snoozable/turned off? I find I keep accidentally snoozing the OnePlus alarm since it's just a simple swipe to one side (and the opposite side swipe turns it off completely).
So I just killed my phone. Banged it into a wall while taking my coat off, which unplugged the battery from the mobo. Non-issue had I not put way too much pressure on my already damaged screen while removing the back, causing all the cracks to expand. Anyway, I need a new phone by the looks of it. Any recommendations? Some essentials for me are USB C, being rugged af, fingerprint and NFC is a plus but not a deal break. USB C is a deal breaker tho, because fuck micro-USB.
for anyone on a budget I always recommend either the Mi A2 or redmi note 5 ai, don't go for the note 6, stupid notch if you really need the headphone jack, go for the note 5, the comparison boils down to: Note 5 got a bigger battery, and you'll really feel the difference, in addition to expandable storage, it also has a fuckton of customization on XDA the Mi A2 got a better SoC, stock android (you'll get at least android Q and it will receive security patches for 3 years), and a much better camera there are rumors that google will be launching a budget pixel with SDM 710, though their understanding of budget will likely be double the price of the A2 the SDM 660 is very similar to the SDM 636 except it has a much better GPU, so if you don't play games, you're unlikely to feel the difference definitely this, I've used it with the math problem option, but it can also force you to take a selfie, scan a QR code and many other options, it's really annoying, also if you try to bypass it by muting or lowering the alarm sound, it will increase it back to full https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=droom.sleepIfUCan&hl=en
I read good things about it when I was looking for a new phone. In your price range of $200 you may want to take a look at the Android One program that Google offers. Some selected pure Android phones for the lower budget.
I vouch for Alarmy because I'm the hardest person in the world to wake up.
