I have a Note 9 and I use Gboard. It's perfect for what it is, and I like the themes it has(I use the dark theme which is perfect for the amoled display).
I'm gonna try it now, see if I like it
I stick with the Samsung keyboard. Trird both GBoard and Swiftkey, even Fleksy at some point, but stock samsung just does everything what I would want from a keyboard already.
My stock s8+ can do that and it does in fact reduce battery usage.
got my pixel 3XL from the black friday sale. it's my first big phone and i love it
i really don't mind the notch after actually using the phone in person
I finally got my Poco. Fullscreen mode is weird and asymmetrical, but it means I get the desktop version of FP without having to request it every time. Touch input at the very edge of the screen is a little delayed, but oddly enough the haptic feedback happens before the audio feedback.
people got really uppity about the notches but after seeing it person and using it with someone elses phone i don't see why. it's great, there's generally quite a bit of dead space in the middle of the notification bar anyway and it makes use of what would have been dead space. where the fuck would they have put the cameras if they didn't have a notch?
I think people were up in arms because of how tall the 3XL's is. Like, its offensively tall. It makes the notification bar like 2x taller than it normally is, which is all wasted screen space. Other phones like the 6T and whatnot make good use of the space, but the 3XL and Essential make it so pointlessly tall that it would bother me to no end.
I won't consider a phone with a notch good unless they make the screen symmetrical or remove the bottom chin entirely.
The Pixel 3 XL notch (along with bottom bezel, the fuck?) is a monstrocity tho
I have a first gen Pixel, I'm thinking about getting a new phone. Would the Pixel 3 XL be a good choice? I love my Pixel but it's age is showing. Previously I had two generations of Galaxy and before that a 2nd gen iPhone. Pixel is by far my favorite of the bunch so far but I've heard some early criticism of the Pixel 3. Should I stay with Google or jump ship yet again to someone else? I don't really keep up with these things when I'm not in the market so I have no clue what the offerings are right now.
Unrelated, my Gboard keeps crashing and is slow as fuck even after clearing my app data. It's super frustrating and I want to fix it.
Google Pixel 3 is supposed to have a bunch of updates rolling out that'll fix some of the problems it's been having since launch. I'd recommend checking r/GooglePixel since the users talk about the updates and upcoming features in detail at points. If you're looking for something a little less expensive then the recently announced Google Pixel 3 lite was just announced.
i used to feel the same way until i got my 3xl. it doesnt bother me at all
Has anyone here tried Xiaomi Mi8 Lite? I'm looking to replace my phone for Christmas and some things hold me back from this phone: no headphone jack and the notification led (it's only white apparently)
Can't speak for lack of headphone jack but the non-colored notification light on my Poco is a total non-issue. In fact I prefer it because it's way smaller/dimmer than other LEDs so it doesn't light up the whole room when I'm trying to sleep.
all the 3xl issues are fixed now
speakers sound a lot better thanks to december update, memory management better
Was askause my actual phone have one with different colors and it helps me to distinguish from what app is the notification from but I guess it's not a huge disadvantage.
Pardon me for butting into this thread but I figured this would be the place to ask: is it possible in the current version of Chrome Android to disable material design? If not what is the most recent version that this can be done on?
you're gonna have to go very far back
please don't do this
It's gone, give it up. I'm using Hangouts as my default SMS still because it supports merged Google Voice and carrier SMS, and that's only because I have an Xposed module forcing support through an antiquated version of Hangouts.
Just embrace the imminent death change
It's too damn bright. Also I don't like my phone looking like an iPhone 5.
hm, my speakers still sound like shit at low volume
Bought a new phone

Galaxy A7 2018 (left). So far this phone is miles better than my old struggling Galaxy A5 2014 (right)
I also like the fingerprint scanner, works instantly. The 3 cameras are good too, and i finally have the damn gyroscope.
I always thought notches looked pretty cool. 6T has one of the best notches.
Guys, what good games for android do you recommend?
Thinking about someyhing like worms aswell, is worms 3 good? Saw it in a rapid glance at the store and sounds fun for the phone
I'm in the same boat but I'm gonna be looking at the Nokia 8.1 or 9. I really don't feel the need to spend a silly amount on a phone that I use to just browse the web, send messages, and take pictures with.
Snapdragon 710 in the Nokia 8.1 is basically a SD 845 with 2 big cores and 6 little cores instead of 4:4 so performance should be pretty much the same as flagships when it comes to everyday things.
Oh shit antihero, reminds me of cultist simulator on pc
And shattered pixel dungeon really reminds me of terraria, huge plus right there
For a bit more you can get a Poco F1. It's a really nice phone, looks exactly like the Mi 8, but it has a plastic back (which, for me, isn't an issue) and the headphone jack. Honestly, I thought I was going to use the LED notification light, but I ended up not using it. If you're in Oreo, it may be useful, since Xiaomi ate shit when they thought it was a good idea to hide notifications from the status bar, due to the notch. However, in Pie, you can enable notifications in status bar and they show for a few seconds in the left hand part of the notch.
It's really great, premium specs for a cheap price. The camera is awesome as well, but I've heard rumors that Xiaomi is limiting the phone's camera via software so they can sell the Mi 8. I'm just waiting for an official Lineage release and then I'll get rid of MIUI.
Are there any flagship-tier phones with both a headphone jack and dual-SIM support anymore?
Alternatively, are there any audiophile-quality* USB C dongles yet?
* Reasonable audiophile, not diamond encrusted cables for improved vocal tone type audiophile.
