Been interested in getting a watch. Is the Galaxy Active any good? I don't work out - i just want a good smart watch to do some smart things.

Some random photo tests with the Galaxy S10+. It's a good camera overall. Shines in outdoors shots especially with wide angle, but indoors/low light really needs a software update as most of them turn out noisy and blurry (these are some of the better ones though). I need some help with fixing some stuff on Rocket Player. So I just added some new music to my phone and from what I checked, 2/3 of the albums are in the correct order, but my Aphex Twin album's a mess and the tutorials on how to fix that from the app's creators don't help at all. What do.

I spent an entire day emulating DS games during a long car trip with a Bluetooth gamepad and headphones and came home with 37% battery remaining. While I was switching tasks to talk to people on Discord over 4G and 3G through woodland areas with poor coverage.

I'll never understand why some OEMs nuke the Widevine L1 keys when the bootloader is unlocked, this isn't required per Widevine specs and Widevine L1 is designed to protect your shtty Netflix streams even when the bootloader is unlocked/user have root access anyway.

So it seems my dad's Sony Ericsson dumbphone is dying after like 12 years, and now he wants to buy a smartphone. The things he want are basically "enough space to install some apps" and "a good camera". Keeping his old phone in mind I think most new phones will have a pretty good camera. I'm not that into phones anymore, though I know of the Pocophone. Might that be good? Afaik he's wary when it comes to relatively unknown brands.

Does he care about privacy? Pretty much every built in app makes you sign a TOS/Privacy Policy thing before you're allowed to use it. Might want to install Lineage on it for him if he's not into that.

So, I currently have the iPhone XS Max, and I'm looking at changing to an Android. Last android phone I had was a HTC One, and it was a POS. Any suggestions on a decent phone to look at? I've been considering the Pixel 3 XL

the S10 series is pretty good in the easier on the wallet zone the Redmi 7 series, the poco F1 and the new galaxy A phones if those come out on australia

I love the idea of the Call Screening the Pixel 3 has. I'm not really fussed about a headphone jack, but I do like decent screens

Is it even worth it to root an android phone and flash custom rom to it these days? Got Galaxy A5 2017 that my sister gave to me, since she cracked the screen on it, and I'm thinking about rooting it and playing around with it, seeing as I use it as dedicated spotify and internet tethering device.

Don't forget proper hosts level adblockers that don't require a silly VPN thing, Drivedroid that lets you use the phone as a bootable flash drive, and magisk mods for various system tweaks (Audio enhancements, bringing apps from other OEM skins, etc)

Yeah as @wontlurk said, adaway is your best bet for a root adblocker.

I would say that rooting being worthwhile depends on the effort you wanna put in, but if you do have some time to spare, it's super worthwhile. The most valuable thing other than adblock to me is just the ability to tame shitty apps from ruining your battery. Greenify non-root rly doesn't do that much

Pixel 3 is good but Google I/O is soon and I'm assuming the 4 will be announced then, I'd wait to see if you'd prefer it. The 3XL's notch is atrocious and if the Pixel 4 leaks are to be believed, they're doing away with it in favour of a cutout like Samsung. I hope they're stepping up their hardware game this year because my biggest gripe with this phone is the battery, it's quite meh. They also might be adding a 2nd back camera, which I hope is telephoto so portrait shots will be better and zooming doesn't suck.

for root adblocker I prefer energized protection nowadays and for custom roms, now matter how good your stock rom is, a custom rom will always be better, you just need to find your desired balance between customization, performance and stability, my current favorites are AICP, Havoc and RR
