Out of the blue, I can't connect to my home wi-fi any more. It hangs on 'obtaining ip address' before saying 'ip configuration failure'. Already tried rebooting the router and the wi-fi router but no luck.
Does your router have a max IP leasing range? Have you added a new device recently?
I'm not sure but I don't think so, on both questions.
My 2nd gen Moto G has been serving me well but the battery is now dead (shuts down at random percentages, even 50%), and apart from the ocassional throttling, restarts when updating very specific apps and the lack of LTE (which was only an issue when travelling to the usa) it works perfectly for me. Should I bother with finding a replacement battery and opening up the phone or is it better to just get a new terminal? I know of a place that puts the Moto G5 on sale for like 100€ but apparently the phone's battery sucks (can anyone confirm/deny this?), so I kept looking for stuff from Samsung and Xiaomi like the J7 or the Mi A2 Lite Any recommendations? As long as it has good battery/camera and can run stuff like pokemon go/feh without shitting the bed I'm set, I don't need anything much more expensive than 200€
The G5 / G5 plus / G6 is still pretty good in terms of battery life, not near nuclear like the 2nd gen with a fresh battery but still good. Easily replaceable battery, more modern quick charge and no xiaomi / samsung crapware helps.
That's a relief to hear then, review sites seem to have conflicting info about the G5, GSMArena in particular seems to critisize it a lot specially in build quality/battery endurance. Has anyone here used a G5 before and had experience with it?
Is there a Nexus 5-priced phone with a Nexus 5-tier camera (e.g. shitty) and Nexus 5-tier performance (excellent bang for buck) that's 1080p and has Oreo and I can install a custom ROM to get rid of all the shitty bloat that's in every phone?
An Essential PH-1 can be gotten for around $300 right now vv SD835, 128GB of storage, 3GB of RAM. It's 1440p though and no headphone jack so might not work out.
God damn that's a really fucking good deal. God damn. God damn. I need headphone jack but god damn.
I mean, regardless, the phone at that price is a good deal, imo.
Is it one of those Amazon deals where you buy a phone with adware for reduced cost?
I dont think so. It might come with the Alexa app preinstalled which you can remove but other than that I believe its the same as every other PH-1.
Are there any solid, non-chord usb-c to aux adapters? Last time I bought I short cord adapter it broke in a week.
Alternatively, you can get the Oneplus 5T on swappa or something for a little over $400. That's the phone I've used since december and I like it quite a bit. Bigger and better screen, usb c, headphone jack, etc. Buy OnePlus 5T (Unlocked) There is the Oneplus 6 now as well, but it's just a bit more expensive
Yeah, 5T is a good bet if you can spare the expense. Plus it just got Treble which is pretty dope.
I just got a Xiaomi Mi A2 4/64 GB for roughly $267, I have no idea how they're able to sell it for this price, especially in this country (high tariffs and they need to buy it from another country then import it), upgrading from a 2013 htc one with a 4.7 inch display to a 5.99 inch one is... weird, but I have big hands so not having to bend my thumb to use my phone is a welcome change, but goddamit I hate the no headphone jack meme, but I had no other real options, their phones aren't even water resistant, they don't even have a borked argument
Check out Poco F1
Poor US band support, no NFC, doesn't run stock Android
I use a cheapo disposable phone for texting and shit. It looks pretty good, but I'm gonna see how the custom rom scene turns out I guess.
I gotta say I really appreciate moto for continuing to make phones that don't have garbage firmware and microphones but would it kill anyone if there was just a 3.5mm jack moto mod I mean there's a slider keyboard mod for god's sake, come on
Can't find a tutorial on fully backing up a rooted phone (Magisk) to reinstall the firmware. Seems like something that would be piss easy to find, but I really can't find anything in detail
you can use TWRP to backup everything (except for internal storage), but what I'd recommend is to instead copy internal storage and all stuff you want to a PC, and use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps and their data
Ended up copying the whole internal storage and backing up the Data partition with TWRP. Tried installing the latest OxygenOS with Treble support, and messed up. Thanks!
TIL you can change your phone's resolution via ADB I did funky things like set 2160x1080, which for some reason didnt let me take screenshots
Do you think that would reduce power useage? I'm rather underwhelmed by 1440p and I'd prefer 1080p if it mean better battery life.
It wouldn't really have much of an effect outside of games, tbh.
Yeah I remember reading how in Galaxy phones the different resolution settings didn't change much for battery But @Ott in case you wanna give it a try, knock yourself out: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongodev/comments/6554k1/tutorial_set_your_android_phone_to_a_lower/
The Samsung S8 has been the first phone I've ever been close to being anywhere close to being satisfied with. I honestly have no reason to upgrade it because it has the power, features, aesthetic I've always wanted in a phone.
That's honestly how I feel about the PH-1 right now... Virtually everything else I'd want is a downgrade in some major way way (usually software related) I guess if I imported a int'l Note 8/9 (for the unlockable bootloaders) that'd be pretty close to ideal, but $$$.
Does anybody know how to disable charging when connecting the phone to USB? I am using mine for drone piloting and the damn RC keeps charging the phone..
