You know they're going to remove existing ones at some point though.
Latitude 5495? I can’t seem to find it online for sale anywhere.
Yep, it's direct order only right now. Only got it because we're Dell partners at work and I just direct emailed our rep about ordering one.
pretty sure last year i said something to the effect of "when did I move to Oblivion"
nah helldesk with possibility of travel if needed.
Still living in central US but still the South basically.
A business software using consumer grade software protocols.
This is only going to go wrong.
Honestly, I'd rather them use that than roll their own. POS vendors suck at writing low-level code. Most of them also suck at writing high-level code, but that's a separate issue.
I've had the immense displeasure of working with a wide variety of POS devices. The ones who just used off-the-shelf tech and a standard sort of API were always the best. The easiest to work with used IBM hardware, stock Windows 7 (when 8 was still brand-new), used plain text config files, and communicated by passing XML over HTTPS. The worst was the one that ran some POS-specific version of Windows, used a proprietary protocol to synchronize files with its server, was configured only through a special program on the server, and did some weird bullshit hacks to make its COM interface more proprietary (intent: charge customers extra for the privelege; actual effect: made it impossible to use normal COM debugging tools).
I'm not sure which shitty POS vendor Helifreak is suffering from. None of the ones I've dealt with used Homegroups, at least that I knew of. I'm kind of interested to hear, if only so I know to charge triple for any jobs involving them.
I need to figure out how much to charge my current job for the software I've been developing for them.
88 days of work with plans to update.
I started it as a "proof of concept" and they said "Yeah we'll pay you for it" but I haven't actually talked to upper management since then.
Unless you move to either Ireland or Australia you won't see any of it if that makes you feel better. Can't really name them without doxxing myself.

Shared folders for the account you login under appear on the network root.
There's also just not having password protection, but it's nothing I can feel comfortable using because SMB sucks compared to samba

Point Of Sale more like Piece Of Shit amirite fellas
I wanna make or get a NAS, any suggestions? I think I'm gonna buy a refurb/second hand HP ML350 G6 or something.
Suddenly worried that my 520W PSU might not be able to handle my 2600X and a 2070.
Depends how much on the 12v. My 2700x and 1080 Ti with four drives, 9 SSD's, 13fans... Maybe pulls 600Watts under full load in games from the wall.
Did that dark rock 4 end up working for you?
Hasn't arrived yet. I need to stop ordering things from Amazon on Fridays since they never ship before Monday morning.
Having lots of problems with internet.
I talk to business support
they sent a tech out 4 hours later.
"It's the modem."
I bought a new $200 modem.
Arrested Development Narrator: "It wasn't the modem."
goddamn do i love craigslist
i've been looking at replacing my old desk chair for a while, was gonna get one of the ~gaming~ chairs. had a hunch to check craigslist for any steelcase chairs, as when i would go to google occasionally, all the office chairs there were those (steelcase think) and they were legitimately the best chairs i've had
"2 results"
"steelcase think: 100 dollars" picking it up later today
I can't pick a laptop aaaaaaaa
rate snowflake for Surface Book 2 15" i7/16GB/512GB/GTX1060
rate funny for Dell XPS 15 9570 i7/16GB/512GB/GTX1050Ti
I plan to get the extended warranty on either so
Depending on what you want to do with it, that's probably pretty overkill (and power hungry)
I rolled my own for primarily file storage and media serving (I stream locally off of it), just an i3 and some hard drives in a giant Fractal Define R4 and it does fine (and can even handle some light transcoding)
I'm looking at it since people are getting rid of it and it's $199 for one with no door and $7 for the door or even $0.99 for one with no cpus and $45 or even
$10 for the cpus versus a fractal design that starts at 199 for the case.
I already have a bunch of hdds and some ddr3 ram.
I have a mini ITX rig with a 450W SFF PSU, and it trucks along with an i7-4770 and a 1080 just fine at full load.
Not sure if the 2600X is less or more power efficient, but you'll probably be fine.
2600X has slightly higher TDP, but this is reassuring, thank you.
(fix the fucking mobile editor GARRY)
hey guys just playing a VR game on my GTX 1060 3GB don't mind me

i have obtained the chair
basically like new condition, a few years old, still comfy af
Just arrived home after an interview with a Canary Wharf tech firm to an email from the recruiter saying she had good news to me.
Is it too soon to celebrate?
If whoever is in charge of hiring is tired of looking and you seemed relatively decent you might hear back super soon like that
Getting a "real" office chair is great. Even something super entry level like the Alera Elusion has served me wonderfully for years.
