I've got the 15", it's niiiiiiice
our LG we just bought only has ads in apps that already have them like Hulu. Or at least there’s aren’t ads anywhere ive used it and we use the smart functionality constantly.
How's the responsiveness? The Samsung I tried was mostly snappy but had horrendous loading times when browsing my media server.
Adequate. It feels like a lower end tablet. I haven’t gotten frustrated except when trying to very rapidly type on the on screen keyboard. Play/pause on smart functions is particularly responsive.
Finally ditched Windows now that valve has proton. I mean sure wine exists but this is basically point and click!
Should I use the Realtek audio driver or the generic Microsoft one? Might be placebo but framerates feel lower with the Realtek one.
It's an audio driver. 100% placebo.
all smart TVs are bad purchase TV, ignore smart features, buy nvidia shield or apple TV based on your ecosystem you're done
The only "smart" feature I want is being able to play videos off my server, maybe browse Youtube, and (as basic TV features) have at least 2 HDMI ports (more always better) and a composite AV (because you will have to pry my Gamecube from my cold dead hands). Samsung's native Steam Link app would also be nice but not really necessary, and AFAICT nobody else has that. I don't need Netflix, or Hulu, or whatever else they came up with. I don't need a phone app. I don't need it to have Alexa or Cortana or whatever Google's thing is called. I don't even need my TV to actually be a TV, in the broadcast or cable sense. I basically want a large monitor with a small media PC built in. Also it's kinda hard to "ignore smart features" when they're slapping adds on the source select menu.
I believe the LG IPS 4K (ours is a 55”) does all that and certainly no ads on input select. 4 HDMI, 1 component, 1 composite. We use a physical Steam Link since it was $1 with ICY
Just a word of warning on youtube, if you want a TV that connects to any sort of external servers to consume media, expect it to not work in 3-4 years as support drops and protocols are deprecated
internet of shit projectors wen
android TV does shield fucking owns at steam link
Terry A Davis is gone https://cdn.frankerfacez.com/emoticon/231552/4
The CIA got him FeelsStrongMan
It's unconfirmed currently, the information is from a /g/ thread, of a Twitter post, of a Facebook snapshot. The HN post points to a random-ass Twitter account, that just has pictures of Facebook that are trivial to fake.
That's niggerlicious
The man who was mentally ill yet some how made a fucking operating system. What a legend.
i got a tcl 4k tv and roku isn't too bad. at least, it'll hold me over until i get my apple tv 4k
Kiwifarms pointed out back in May that this was his account https://www.facebook.com/people/Terry-A-Davis/100025903548224?tn-str=*F A memorialisation of an account is something only a family member has access to I found said account from this post, which I don't exactly think is handled by terry but, the shared post gave a profile ID which returned a few threads on /g/ and /pol/, alongside page 51 of the kiwifarms thread (mentioned earlier) https://www.facebook.com/templeos/posts/193641417925538 Someone on /g/ did report to facebook that the account should become a memorial page. Two hours later it showed up. But it does still need that confirmation
I prefer my Samsung TV that's completely barren of any smart features and my ITX R5 1600/RX 560 box.
I got a Smart TV because it was on sale. I'd much rather have a normal TV with a media PC. Stores near me don't even sell non smart TVs now.
They don't really even make them.
Back when I was helping my brother set up his new TV, some Samsung smart TV monstrosity, it took forever to start up and it was just really laggy overall. I'm honestly surprised they would ship that as a premium product.
We bought a Samsung SmartTV because it had our ISP-s IPTV app. A year or two later they dropped support for new TV-s with it (so only some specific Samsung TV-s even support it), stopped new development and bugfixes and said that use our box instead. Then they made the same app for some LG TV-s after that and then dropped support for that too. It keeps clutter down when you can keep from not using their box and only have to plug in your TV and an ethernet wire. Can't really use own Media PC instead of their box too, as the channels are crypted, except for like 3 channels or so. So the only Smart part I use is Youtube and sometimes have tried the Mirrorlink or whatever screenshare thing. Even the Spotify app disappeared from the app menu.
They do, you just have to find somewhere you can get the display only models (ie the kind that's used to show ads at a car dealership or information at a dentist)

Sold a pistol to a co-worker, decided the i5-2500k that I bought used a few months ago needs to be retired for other tasks and purchased a cheap Ryzen 1600, a motherboard, and 16GB of RAM. Wicked excited for it to all show up this week so I can throw it together.
TIL using "reboot now" in ubuntu server doesn't just reboot, it reboots into maintenance mode meaning you can't SSH in. Great that I find this out while I'm away from home for the weekend. Now I've got no access to my server until I get back.
I recently looked at some 2nd hand sales. Cards unused or slightly used go for 200€ under new price. I gotta upgrade now or I ain't gonna do it for another year. My university laptop is not going to handle what I require from it so either I am going to take my home PC with me or I am going to make a new build real soon. Financial issues aside, (I also need a new phone) the price drops of RTX releasing should help me.
