What a badly researched video I laughed at the odd assortment of tools you "need" (including a rubber bracelet that apparently stops static discharge, was wondering if he was gonna pull some power crystals out next), and of course cringed at the awkward badly applied thermal paste under a heatsink that already has it preapplied Hopefully nobody ever uses this video for educational purposes, and it's only seriously watched by people who want to think they know how to build a computer without ever actually building one
This one's so weird because it's clear that the guy has some experience and did this stuff before, but then spouts all this misinformation and makes a ton of rookie mistakes. "Well, he got it working in the end so it doesn't matter, right?" - The Verge, probably. My favorite parts are probably the non-grounded "antistatic" wristband (LOL) and the double layer thermal-paste sandwich shitshow that probably takes the cake among all the myths and misconceptions about thermal paste I've heard so far.
Hey now, it's not his fault he learned how to apply thermal paste from MSI.
I like how he said if your PSU touches the case it will short it and stuff, hence you have to install it on rubber stand-offs. Buddy, if your PSU's case is live you've got way bigger problems.
Haha even though the MSI guy clearly had no idea what he was doing, I somehow still think that method would produce better results than mixing two different thermal pastes. I got reminded of this classic too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSCVahyh3Dk
Also the PSU is turned the wrong way. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/185359/83ebe952-b2d2-4ef1-973f-4fd5f5ee6e1e/image.png I mean, it'll probably "alright" considering the fact that it's a well-built 850W unit that is probably gonna peak at 450-500W sustained, but still holy shit.
Thanks, finally got my Mac Pro running on Win10 Pro so I can actually use both CPUs. I thought Ebay US didn't allow license key sales? Apparently I was mistaken. It's amazing what does and doesn't run properly on just a dual-core system anymore - I could run Crysis on mid-low settings but Imgur's front page would lock everything up and Google Drive would freeze everything for like a minute after booting up.
He also says to insert it as close to the frame as possible seconds after mentioning the rubber standoffs, so i don't even know what's going on there
Darkpunch broken for anyone else?
yeah, custom user css is broken right now

I'm looking for a HDMI-->VGA adapter and I found one for 3$ on aliexpress but there's a version of the same adapter with power and audio for 2$ more, does the powered version make any difference?
Probably the best part so far about running a 3570k at 4.5GHz is that I can now watch 4k60 VP9 on youtube with next to no dropped frames. Just barely though, 1.25 speed is a no-go and if any background program decides to do a bunch of work at the same time it turns into a freezy mess.

Some active HDMI -> VGA adapters get the power from the HDMI port, others require extra power for the digital to analog IC in it. There are also some passive adapters but they require a GPU that can output analog VGA signals through the HDMI port. Seems pretty rare though, haven't heard of anyone actually doing it, but I have seen these adapters for sale.
Give me a nice neutral black, silver/grey or white color instead of that fakey copper shit though.
Hell yeah then. I love awkward computers. Speaking of awkward and computers, I just spent 10 minutes figuring out what the fuck was going on with my work PC and the mouse. It was going all haywire and clicking on shit randomly. I rebooted, replugged my mouse, tried everything. Turns out my iPhone charging cable was rest across the trackpad...
God this white theme is fucking unusable christ. Knowing gayry we'll be stuck with it for a month before he figures out it's broken.
If only we had ended up in the timeline where white on black was the standard I blame paper and ink for this modern atrocity
I actually prefer black-on-white to white-on-black. I've always used the stock Facepunch theme, my editors are all set to white background, I think the only reversed things I use are terminal windows and that's just because I never thought about changing them until now but now that I have I just might.
It's funny, now that I think about it, I set everything away from what the default is. So I set my forums and text editors to white on black, but I take my default white on black terminals and make them black on white. I guess I'm a text color contrarian.
You're a monster.
I wanna steer myself away from using the terminal as much as possible, in the hopes that someday I'll actually get laid.
Wow. Bell has been pretty aggressive with promos lately, they're offering 1.5 Gbps download and 940 Mbps upload for $85 for 6 months and $109 after. That might almost be enough to get me to upgrade the free 150/150 + static IP I get from work. The modems Bell uses have an SFP port in them, so I can take out their SFP and shove it into my Mikrotik router's SFP+ port to actually get the full 1.5Gbps speeds.
Why did chrome turn into firefox
new day, new paste
I bought Noctua NT-H1 for my PC build and since then I've been repasting everything in my house that makes even remote sense to add thermal paste to. After all, I don't have any other legitimate uses for it.
Don't forget your phone.
