my kvm switch at work is pretty much only switching my kb+m b/t my nuc and corp compy since i was lucky enough to get two unclassified monitors

For what it's worth, IIRC AMD has fabbed their GPUs at TSMC at least since GCN.
As a small update on my battery project. I'm going to be buying some solar panels soon. And will have ~12KWh by the time I finish processing the remainder of my cells. That's enough to run my AC for like 2 days or something off grid.
Pulled out a server that wasn't posting, didn't think it was a big deal until the thing was covered in char from the inside. This is why you replace power supplies and don't rig or splice the ends. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/229156/bdb4cacd-c951-41bd-8b26-a3a5e4fd93ab/IMG_20180919_151906.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/229156/34993312-53e0-4f4e-91ac-b5448a7ac7eb/IMG_20180919_152649.jpg
That post wasn't meant to be taken 100% seriously but that kinda defeats the point that the KVM would be basically built into the mouse.
Good thing I dragged my feet and waited for your guys' opinion: https://www.riskiq.com/blog/labs/magecart-newegg/ If any of you bought anything from Newegg and had to enter your card number between the dates of August 14th and September 18th, your card was digitally skimmed and you need to contact your bank to cancel it and get a new one
Are you serious? Why hasn't Newegg emailed me about this? I bought my 1080 on the 31st
Newegg should give everyone affected a fairly substantial gift card or something to make up for the MASSIVE inconvenience that it is to set up a new credit card
... I take it DX12 explicit multiadaptor hasn't taken off, then?
calling your bank and getting a new card a week later? though i guess if it's your only card it'll suck to be without it
For direct cards via Discover and AMEX, it should be overnighted by default.
Hell no. Heck, DX12 itself hasn't really taken off yet.
Yes, but then you have to set up any and all payment systems that used it previously again.
With 50 million visitors a month, I wouldn't be surprised if most banks proactively send out new cards
Thanks everyone for the help, I got a TS-100 that's coming tomorrow!
Honestly forgot it was a feature until you mentioned it.
Speaking of DX12 no game but Shadow Of The Tomb Raider and The Division actually has benefits to using the API. Frostbite DX12 is a stuttering fucking mess. Deus Ex causes crashes(anecdotal) Dota 2 is crash heavy in DX12 Quantum Break was also pretty bad too(yet the DX11 version of the game on Steams a shit ton better lol) DX12 just sucks because of lack of up take and lack of real reason to optimize it so nobody uses the features it has. Meanwhile Vulkan has gains in almost every title it's supported.
twitch overlays are just glorified web pages
I found you, @nikomo https://i.imgur.com/D4gi022.png
Units have GUIDs but they only get used in logging because string operations are faster. It's hilarious honestly.
I usually build my computers sitting down on the floor like a fucking caveman, so even the most basic of their assertions were wrong.
Grunting around a desktop on its side like our ancestors did around fires in caves
Yep, that's me whenever I need to take out the fucking 24pins and have to deal with their fucking death grip.
Hollllly this is one nasty read: https://www.privacyfly.com/articles/ncix_breach/ TL;DR: NCIX abandoned all their servers and desktops in a warehouse and stopped paying. All unencrypted. Databases with every transaction since 2007 to 2017. User accounts have unsalted md5-hashed passwords. No drive encryption anywhere. Unencrypted payment info and customer records. The data was already sold to multiple buyers.
Oh no
It's really annoying that it would cost as much to make an external 4x3.5" enclosure to expand my server as it would to just buy another ProLiant N36l and have an entire second server.
Just so we're clear: If you (basically ever??) had an account and/or bought anything from NCIX, consider that password and credit card compromised Also, if you were one of the unlucky SOBs who was unfortunate enough to have your PC in for repairs when they went under, assume hackers have a full HDD image/physical access to your former drive, scorched earth every password you have
So about that RTX thing; I'm no expert in computer graphics but I still hold the opinion from long ago that ray tracing is a waste of resources at this point in time and moving towards denser(micropolygon) geometry and stochastic sampling would be a better use of those transistors. Iirc wasn't raytracing not only compute-hungry but also had memory problems because of the 'random' access patterns negating the benefits of caches and preloading data?. Anyways I was curious if anybody else shared the opinion and I found this patent by AMD: US10062206B2.
It's not great, but there's lots of things you can do to the naive implementation to make it much better behaved in regards to memory access. Also, Nvidia isn't promoting this as a full ray-traced rendering system for games. They're pitching it as a hybrid, normal rasterization for most stuff and ray-tracing in areas that would benefit from it. I'm still digging through the details but I think that's a much better match for the current technology. I actually think it'll make shadows much easier to render... the hacks used to simulate it with triangle rasterization are stupid. PS: That AMD patent is nifty but not revolutionary in any way. Just a small improvement to scheduling, which isn't really a bottleneck anyways.
