Vega's default P-states are WAY overkill for most GPUs, so if you just lower the voltage you're pumping into it, it'll be less thermally throttled. It's not an issue on watercooled or LC cards (like mine), but is generally a good idea anyway. Hopefully AMD's next GPU has a better power management system (like Ryzen).
Oops, my bad. I remembered only that it was fun when I played it. Now if you mention these things I remember that yeah, no diagonally running and whatnot made it pretty bad. It still was better than what CoD series was at that time, maybe that's why it gets remembered in good light.
Golang websocket on windows: Fine Golang websocket on ubuntu: panic: concurrent write to websocket connection Basically just scriptkiddie problems tbh
Freesync is only possible on Nvidia cards with some hackery.
And that could be patched out any minute now.
Why would AMD lock out FreeSync? That's literally the opposite of the point, FreeSync isn't locked to a single vendor
I think Nvidia is more likely to patch it out. They get royalties on GSync monitors after all. It would be a dumb move to cripple your own GPUs but it's not like Nvidia isn't making a ton of dumb moves.

This is why https://i.imgur.com/I9fI3bD.png
There is a difference between prioritising your own customers and breaking the law to fuck over the competition. Has nvidia done illegal shit like Intel?
For modern stuff, best I know of is Anandtech, and they don't go super deep. They have to rely on the vendors for a lot of it, which isn't great but I don't know of anyone doing serious die photography and independent analysis of modern chips, in the open at least. I'm sure there's people doing it, and charging thousands for a copy of the results. If you don't mind it being older stuff, and want super-ultra-granular detail, Ken Shirriff's blog tends to have a lot, like this (sound chip from Space Invaders arcade board): https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WpLnnaJerrM/WQYL6FBFXyI/AAAAAAABCms/qSXeMGe9LwIH_X02SVL5wWfqnwgXkOKmwCHM/w700/die-blocks.jpg He's done entire series of posts on the ARM1 and the 8008. It's a bit too low-level for me to follow (I'm terrible with circuit analysis, anything beyond resistor networks is above my skill level) but it's worth reading nonetheless.
Apples and oranges imo, using your market presence to be anti-competitive does nothing but harm your consumers
I mean, a Vega 56 will pretty much do as well with some overclocking.
I'm gonna need your help and opinions guys. This: Specification for PE72 8RC | Laptops Versus this: Specification for GL73 8RD | Laptops (with the 8th gen Intel hexa-core 8750H) They're meant to be a static workstation but with portability. As in, it'll need to be moved easily but will always be dependent on AC power and not battery. The need for it to be a laptop is right there, and that's why I can't advise an actual "workstation". Uses: Light rendering and 3D work, presentations on the matter, Photogrammetry work, basically an archaeology lab PC. Not gaming and the like, the 1050 Ti edges out the other one because of double the Vram and more CUDA to work with, even though the amount of cores is still tiny compared to desktop high ends. One also comes with 8gb ram, the other with 16gb, also important but less because of ability to upgrade. I'd like the silver one better because it's less "LOL WE GAMING" and more professional and sleek looking but idk if it's worth to skimp on the hardware if the only difference is outside looks. Thoughts?
Really depends, AiB cards have been using SK Hynix HBM2, which generally can't hit the critical 1000 MHz Vega needs to shine. But if you can get the reference blower Vega 56s, those have Samsung HBM2; you'll just need to deal with the blower designs, or put an aftermarket cooler on them (such as the Morpheus II).
The thing is that I'm not sure nVidia has anything to do with it. IIRC this workaround involves the graphics switching abilities built into Windows 10 1803, and you plug your video cord into your motherboard so you're technically using your Ryzen APU. You specify in Windows that you run your .exe with your nVidia card and it'll go no problem. If nVidia somehow managed to patch it out, they'd break the functionality for laptops too, like the Surface Book. Everything on here runs through the Intel GPU, but all it's actually doing is copying the frames from the nVidia card to itself.
So my Windows machine started turning itself off randomly, in the middle of games. At first I thought it was some weird update setting because fresh install. Then today it shut off and wouldn't boot on again. I couldn't even get to bios. Got really worried that it was a CPU thermal issue. Let it sit for a few minutes and no luck. If it's thermal I already damaged my CPU. Can't get to a screen where I can see thermals anyway. So I unplug everything and reseat the RAM. I keep everything unplugged but the power cord and and do a boot. It works just fine. Confident that I fixed the problem, I plug everything back in. Boot it up, success! I go enter my password and realize my keyboard isn't connected. The second I plug it in, Windows shuts down. I try this a few more times and the problem is that my keyboard makes my computer restart. I think it's a driver issue but that doesnt explain not being able to access bios, that's a hardware issue. I go into Windows and look at the logs using the on-screen keyboard. It reports that the shutdown reason is a physical power-off button press. No mention of driver crashing. A few years ago, I spilled water on this keyboard. This also made the connection super shakey as moving the cord just a bit would unplug it. The t key is also starting to fail. Leasing theory is that the keyboard is shorted from the water damage and finally degraded to this point where it constantly sends a shutdown signal. Gonna run out tomorrow and buy the cheapest keyboard I can find to verify.
Not news
You're not going to get one, at least not from Nvidia. As an anecdote here. I was at Hot Chips 28 and Nvidia had a presentation for Pascal, namely GP100. They start with a die shot and some details of it, and the presenter starts out with saying "I wasn't allowed to label this" and on top of which the resolution of the shot is severely limited. Nvidia despises giving any real information on their dice aside from the basics.
Question for linux people here: is there a way in headless linux to create a virtual audio cable type device? I need to route audio from a program to a streaming server but all the guides I've found (like using aloop) require that a soundcard be installed. I'm running a server mobo with no sound hardware and don't really want to install one just for this.
Have you tried modprobing aloop before launching ALSA? AFAIK it shouldn't require more than that.
It loads the module fine but aplay -l or arecord -l still gives no soundcards found.
I got a PS/2 Dell keyboard from the early 2000s and it works fine. Not USB but I don't wanna waste money on testing it. Meanwhile, I plugged this keyboard into other machines and while it didn't immediately boot them down, it freaked the fuck out and ghosted everywhere and had caps lock permanently on. Methinks the keyboard is permanently fried.

Oh hey, that's cool. Can't login to FP with google anymore so I'm stuck on firefox until that's fixed...
