remember kids, always make sure you double check that the "copy to clipboard" button has actually copied to your clipboard before pasting it elsewhere i just set a password to the wikipedia link for Amanda Knox and would not have noticed if i hadn't hovered my mouse over the clipboard widget
I have a crazy serb friend that wants a modern version of PalmOS with Linux and stylus input, and apparently telling him "get on with the times grandpa" constantly and his lack of knowledge in embedded electronics didn't stop him from wanting to get an RPi and a touchscreen shield. Instead of having a gimmick device that will look like a bomb when he whips it out in public, I'm trying to get him to get an used galaxy note phone, root it and just run chrooted debian with XSDL on top of android, seeing he needs a new phone too. I don't blame him because he uses some cheap prestigio shit with mediatek and 512MB of RAM that he wants to smash to bits.
As a Note 8 owner, I honestly don't get why everybody wants the stylus. I only got it for the square corners compared to the rounded on the S9+ And I needed a new phone BAD. Very tempted to pre-order the Note 9 because of the headphones, but I like stock android a lot and would prefer a phone I can flash a custom ROM onto.
Honestly it depends on the person or the culture in the country. My best friend would only get phones with a vertical physical keyboard to type things with due of finding typing on glass uncomfortable. She switched to a refurb Note 4 a year or two ago and uses the stylus for quick notes, typing with the virtual keyboard (or rather swiping most of the time) and drawing on the go. Sometimes I see her to use the stylus for doing ordinary things on the phone while it's sitting on her desk. My other friend carries around an Adonit Jot Flip stylus he uses on his tablet when he remote desktops or dualboots into the Phoenix OS ROM on his tablet. They're both weirdos.
I use the S-Pen on my Note 8 all the time. It's incredibly useful when you need to write notes all the time. I've had a Note 3, 4, and 8 and I've used it the most on the 8 because of the Always On Display notes.

Anyone see an actual purpose of the 2990WX beyond bragging rights? Seems like unless you have very specific use cases, and you really, really, really don't want to step up to server class CPUs, you're better off with pretty much anything else in the threadripper line.
2950X is a bang for the buck entry. The 2990WX is just so you can brag about your cinebench scores and have a nice floor heater. In saying that holy shit is it one beast. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/301471/396bd22f-5cbc-4c6b-9488-b976642b4076/image.png 👀
Trouble is it looks like it performs significantly worse than the 2950X in a bunch of applications, way more than the clock speed difference would suggest (seems to be memory related). So I mean, beyond showing off Cinebench, it doesn't even look like it performs radically better.
Think that's XFR2 and PBO being aggressive(Linus noted this) so it kept clocks lower but more consistent. Could imagine that with those limits removed and it stayed at a consistent clock rate it might perform the same or better.
2990WX could make for a very decent home server, I guess. The problem with it is that it's literally too powerful for most software to be able to utilize it fully.
A lot of the performance degradation on certain applications is probably down to what is going to be NUMA awareness - at least on Linux benchmarks applications seemed to fair much better. So I assume some windows kernel updates down the line will get its scheduler in order and reduce some of the problems the 2990WX has.
I could see my next CPU being 32cores. 4K60 streaming boiz
you don't need 32 cores for that friend
Yes. I do. Stop telling me to not buy things.
Cresty, no.
It's too late, mother.
Crest why not just become a sugar daddy?
Because I'm antisocial.
I have too many things I want and too little money to buy them. Waiting for the 6T to release someday and see if I want that, also waiting for the 20xx series of GPU-s to see if I should finally upgrade or I could get a nice new laptop. My PC has been getting weird BSOD-s recently, might be RAM. The HD7850 struggles with newer games (thought long and hard about buying JC3, didn't because I can't really play it properly and it is probably going to get more sales after the release of JC4) and so on. My headphones are also starting to remind me of them being cheap. They are so plasticy that when they fell at work one day, my friend jumped up in panic and thought that somebody had smashed a plate.
There's a better solution for that problem. https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/
I think the 2950X would be a hell of a lot better for that! Do eeeeiiiittttt
Go big or go home.
They got something like 100 lots of these: 100 NEW 18650 2200MAH CELLS LITHIUM ION BATTERIES POWERWALL DIY .. They posted about it in an FB group I'm in. So it's 1.4$ per cell. These are apparently just batteries that were made for a product that got discontinued so they're brand new.
How easy is it to fix a headphone cable? There's no sound coming from the right cup of my Sennheiser HD650 anymore unless I bend the cable which I assume means that the wire inside got split. If it's relatively easy, what would I need to buy to fix it?
Very easy. A soldering iron (no, you don't need a $100 soldering station for a quick fix, a cheapo will be good enough), some flux and solder and a screwdriver.
Hell, I've even done it without flux because I'm a fucking retard.
i thought i liked the e450 i got to use at work and then we got our department "testing" touchbar MBPs in and now my thinkpad stays on my desk closed because i can RDP into it when i need to open up active directory (also it was the super low spec e450 so it's not like it was a performance beast)
