I finally got to experience an Indian Microsoft Scam at work today
https://i.imgur.com/PDz7kQO.png
Had a user call saying they got a virus message after some updates and were told to run a virus scan, they called back today and I remoted in and saw this glorious monstrosity.
Apparently he called the number on there and they actually told him to call his IT
Web browser within a browser. Reminds me of a wasm talk by destroy all software
I believe it's supposed to force your browser into fullscreen so that you think it's actually your browser.
I don't think it's possible for webpages to do that anymore though.
Okay what's up with Debian and its ability to completely fuck up anything on a fresh install?
Wanted to try Mattermost, completely cocked itself up on Debian while following the instructions. Nuked and installed CentOS and I got it working with zero issues. Now I've spent 3 hours trying to get code to compile on Debian, gave up, got CentOS running and it compiled on the first try somehow (golang).
The fuck.
Just won an eBay auction for a Psion Series 5, it looks cool as hell.
Anyone here who has one, or other cool PDAs?
Not quite
It's like creating 83,000,000,000,000,000,000 (83 quintillion/billion billion) supernovas at once, in the same spot
Anyone need a wiretap? In my house I currently have 3 Echos, 3 Echo Shows, 1 Google Home Mini and 1 Harmon Kardon Invoke. (We're gifting two of the Echo Shows and one Echo Dot).
I'd take an Echo Dot
i really only use my echo dot to play spotify on my speaker set without having to connect my phone all the time
I've actually been looking to equip stuff with Hue and an Echo at home, but apparently not everything quite works in Portugal, or is very limited in what the Echo can actually do.
And I'm guessing the US version would outright not work properly here for whatever reason, so it's a sad day. :c
Aw. Yeah, I have 4 smart plugs, 4 Hue bulbs and a Hue strip on the back of our big TV, and it all works pretty great. I use the HK Invoke in my office for music, because it's a better speaker than it is a digital assistant.
We actually bought the Echo Shows for Black Friday - we're gonna have my FIL set one up for his parents, since they already have an Echo Dot and they love it, the learning curve shouldn't be awful. Then, we're giving one to the in-laws themselves, so they can video chat with his parents, and we're keeping one for the same reasons.
Also because we like the Echo the most. I've accepted the inevitable Amazon monopoly.
2 questions:
My R9-270x is still a great card and runs just as fast and the newer AMD cards, but the 2gb of ram is holding it back bad.
>What would be a good AMD card to replace it with
or
>Is it even possible to expand Vram? If so, how?
An RX 580 would be a good bet.
No real way to expand VRAM, unfortunately.
I've never seen a video card with expandable memory. There might have been some back in the super-early days but GPU memory busses are too wide these days, you'd need like 8 SO-DIMM sized sticks just to get one per channel. So no, it's not possible.
Probably a 580? That's what everyone seems to cite as the best bang/buck for current GPUs, and 8GB should relieve your memory woes for a while.
I bought an ergonomic keyboard for work and MAN do I type slowly on it.
I also keep hitting 'n' instead of 'b' because it's where 'b' usually is and I hit it with my right hand on normal keyboards.
I'll never see these as anything but a gimmick.
It's actually a lot nicer on my wrists, I lift my wrists up really high when I type normally and I've started to have wrist and joint pain so I decided to give it a shot.
It's comfy.
That keyboard was helpful, but i ended up going full retard and getting one of these

I couldn't stand the microsoft keyboard's mushiness, and my issue was keyboard width rather than keyboard height anyway.
did stylepunch die for anyone else?
this site is too bright now
Let's not limit ourselves. Linus is a nice fuck you to everyone.
I think not many people understand nVidia's whole RTX situation, we're still in the beginning of realtime raytracing so it's no wonder that it's expensive and slow (not to mention the lack of game support).
I'm excited to see how mainstream raytracing will be in 5 years, right now it doesn't seem super impressive to the people who don't know what the potential is.
I mean, you'd be out of your mind to actually want to run Battlefield V at half the framerate just so the water has more realistic reflections, lol.
And I really hope AMD has something up their sleeve to compete...
It doesn't seem that impressive because everyone has seen what lighting with voxel-based GI and whatever can achieve, for the average user the difference will be minute. And also the reflections on BF:V are also applied to other a-bit-more-diffuse areas like guns and cars.
Sure I'd love to see ss reflection gone, but it doesn't seem like we're ready yet.
What's the best USB bootable diagnostic toolset these days? Used to use Hirens, switched to UBCD. What's new?
Hey guys. How have you all been?
Why does display calibration (Spyder5) take so long?
I don't understand why it would need to take >30minutes.
I own a Spyder4, took maybe 20 minutes.
Are you doing like 10bit calibration or something where they're a shit ton more colors and levels?
i threw together a shitty wordpress site for a meme hat i wanted to sell and used an API to push orders to my manufacturer over a year ago. suddenly got a shitton of orders today and found out that some big shitposter on twitter plugged my site. the post has over 3000 likes and 1000 retweets
this feels weird yet incredibly rewarding

I was thinking of creating a "Post a picture of your hardware" just to show my new set-up but decided against it. I am just going to dump that picture here. Two brand new top of the line screens on a docking station...connected to my old crappy laptop.
