On Intel platforms, not too much, but theoretically yes.
On AM4 platforms, yes, though marginal. CAS latency also matters.
That's the entire purpose of a 6+2 pin, it comes in two pieces rather than just being a single rigid 8-pin. This way you can use it either as a 6 pin or an 8 pin, depending on what you need.
Thanks, gonna grab a pair of this now and a second later next month. Does the price fluctuate often?
Looking at upgrading my PC since Battlefield V kicks the shit out of it. Also with an eye towards Star Citizen now that it's starting to come together. I have a GTX 1070 but only 8gb of DDR3 RAM and an i5 4590 CPU, so ideally what I'm looking at is just picking up a motherboard/CPU/RAM combo. Any suggestions for something that balances affordability with scaling? I don't need to run BFV and future games at 144 FPS on ultra settings at huge resolution, I just want them to run well. I was considering just upgrading my CPU but my motherboard is limited to 1150 socket and from what I can tell it would cost almost as much to do that then just replace the motherboard and buy more RAM, which I have to do anyway.

Switch to 2600X or 2700 for extra performance depending on budget. Pick w/e cooler you want, but the noctua one there is plenty.
Wow that was quick, thanks! I've been an intel/nvidia guy forever but I guess if I want something affordable AMD is where I should go.
Reference Vega 64s are going for $399 on Newegg RN too.
I'm very tempted to get one for more compute to throw at Cycles/ProRender.
SAPPHIRE Radeon RX Vega 64 DirectX 12 21275
Is the NZXT H440 a good purchase?
It does a decent job obscuring noise, but the small space at the back of the motherboard and the foam padding makes it real tricky to get the back panel on. Also, my uncle offered to help me move stuff, and he picked it up by the front panel and it popped off and my rig fell on his toes... but I guess that's not a general issue.
Personally, unless you really like the H440's aesthetic, I'd choose the Fractal Design R5/R6 over it. I moved my build to a R6 from the H440 and it was a lot easier to work with.
the vega 64 deals are really good but i already got a 1080 so not much use
anyone seen a decent mouse in the black friday offers? the roccat lua i have isnt bad but its not great either
Been using https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JWJPGG for almost years exactly, no problems to report other than having to take out the bay for the optical drive. Only mentioning it because the video card is finally the same price it was when I bought it. Nothing else is really worth it for the current prices though IMO, the case and motherboard seem to have vanished too.
Anybody know anything about Intel 660p M.2 drives? Newegg's black friday add has those in 2TB for $240 which is much cheaper than the Samsung 970 EVO at like $230 for 1TB. Are they that much slower? And when it comes to drive speed do I really need (or even utilize) 3500MB/s over 1800MB/s?
Update: got the screws.

I'll probably pop them in this weekend, and re-apply thermal paste, also.
TL;DR: QLC SSDs are okay for everyday use but if you're using them to transfer extremely large files, they're actually overall slower than hard drives. They just have a shit ton of cache so they perform small tasks very quickly.
Holy SHIT
Newegg has Threadripper 1950Xs for $450 right now.
AMD 1st Gen RYZEN Threadripper 1950X 16
based AMD.
It's unfortunate that Threadripper's use cases are edge cases at best
I'd argue X399 is extremely versatile, it's just not good at specific tasks like running games at super high framerates.
Need tons of cores for data crunching? Threadripper.
Need tons of GPUs for raytracing? Threadripper.
Need a ton of storage? HBA cards + Threadripper.
Need a firewall+router network device with insane throughput? NICs + Threadripper.
You could build an entire stack of services based on this platform.
i'm looking to get a 1070Ti by the end of the year, does anyone have any brand recommendations? (i'm in the UK, if that matters)
EVGA for good coolers, good pricing and excellent customer service.
ASUS for the best coolers, overall best GPUs available and borderline nonexistent customer service.
MSI for great coolers and good pricing (avoid Armor units, look for Twin Frozr coolers)
I haven't seen any B-Stock deals from EVGA that are any better than about a few weeks before RTX, soon as the RTX pricing was made public, "sales" prices of all 10 series gpus went up about $50-75 and prices starting going all over the place based on inventory, ect.
Also EVGA's B-Stock deals are going to ship and be sold from the US.
1080ti for 750 was this a good deal?
Thanks a lot. I also checked some tests where 8700K was in comparing with 9900K. The result was slightly better in everyday tasks and gaming. The only difference was in 3D rendering.
Rest of my parts come in Friday. The fucking wait is that kills me the most

You're gonna make it, buddy! I had a pile of PC parts growing on my desk until the final famed day - the PSU delivery!
Boy do I feel like a moron. After some configuration, getting the pins in right, and ditching DVI for HDMI I was finally able to get the GPU running smoothly. Haven't tried any games yet or checked the global card settings but it should all be better now.
Nice and it was the EVGA FTW 3
feels bad to have to miss all the deals because I'll only get enough money for my whole rig around christmastime
Going from a GTX 770 I'd ordered the Sapphire NITRO± RX 580 from amazon for £181.99 but I've since seen the Sapphire Radeon Vega 56 going for £338 on Overclockers with the bonus of three game keys worth £40 apiece. The latter is out of stock st the moment however and the 580 still seemed a steal even though it isn't due for dispatch until next week. Will it probably hold out for high-max 1080p gaming for a little while or is the Vega 56 a must?
It should, though as always, more power == more better.
Anyone looking at 1060's or anything video cards around $200, EVGA is most likely clearing out the last of the B-Stock GTX 970's for $129.99.
