I upgraded my car today Nice to have power windows and locks. And it's not leaking which is nice. And paid for it outright which was cool. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/228986/41d34b12-4621-4c76-b6c9-a3e8b74453ef/D0IF_ZkWsAA_Rhq.jpg
Congrats on paying outright! That’s a huge good idea.
I have an interview at my local Apple store tomorrow. Here's hoping I get to start fixing people's computers and phones soon.
I've just about fucking had it with ssh/git on Windows. On my Linux installation, I get asked for the password to unlock my private key on my first attempt to push or pull or connect to an ssh server. After that, the key is stored for the session. In Windows however, there seems to be no one on the entire planet who wants things to work that way. I've googled around, but the best thing I can find is messing with PuTTy, changing GIT_SSH to PuTTy's plink executable, and then using PuTTy's pageant to add the keys. Except that doesn't work. Pageant won't add the key unless you either manually click "add key" or have pageant start up with windows with the option to add the key. So now I'm stuck with a dialog asking for my password on boot. Even worse is that it doesn't come up right away, always after I've started doing other things. That's horrendous! Does anyone know how to easily replicate "asking for the password on first use" behaviour on Windows? I want to know before I start rage writing batch scripts

I use Pageant via startup and mine spins up before most of my other programs do. Out of curiosity though, why are you messing with SSH/Git commandline on Windows to that depth?
is that what, the 16? i don't see the DRLs that my 17 has
Well, the best git tool I've found so far (over SourceTree, Sublime Merge, GitHub's thing), is the GitSavvy plugin for sublime. It mimics Emac's Magit, which is considered legendary. This system works extremely well, most of the git related stuff is done with keyboard shortcuts, and I love having everything right there in my editor. However, in the end it's just a simple wrapper of the git command line. If authentication is not taken care of, pushing and pulling will result in an authentication error message. I'm messing with ssh/git command line on Windows to get that to work properly. Is your private key locked with a password? You don't notice pageant starting up if it's not, if it is, you get greeted by this screen some time after startup: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107070/7651e392-d1b3-484c-89f5-acb90435de68/pageant_2019-02-24_19-03-39.png It seems there's some opimisation thing in Windows, where startup of programs is delayed unreasonably. My system is fully responsive after booting, yet those programs take another 20-30 seconds to start.
I went in during the $30 battery replacement offer in December. I walked out with a brand new phone.
yea 16. Certified Pre-Owned with 20k miles. And I got it for quite a good price.
Oh yeah, all my keys are passworded as well. I still have to enter the password at startup, it just shows up pretty quick for me (before Steam/Teamspeak).
Call me petty, but anything that pops up in my face when I boot will irritate me instantly. I go "god fucking damnit" the moment I see the dialog. I have that with Discord's loading thing, back in the day when steam would show "logging in..." before going away and all that stuff. I don't want anything slapping me in the face when I boot. On Linux a similar dialog to the one in my previous post comes up, but it does so when I first push or pull. That's perfect, that's when I expect it to pop up, that's when I perform a user interaction that directly has that dialog as a consequence.
Not petty at all. Congrats on your victory. I will gladly spend hours trying to trim seconds off of a nuisance task just to not have to do it anymore, so I feel your pain.
Prob. going to buy a new KB, my QuickFire TK is like 6yo and I figured it's time to treat myself to something new. I'm thinking about going for a Magicforce Qisan with Outemo Browns, any reason not to?
You know you're desperate when you resort to overclocking the Intel integrated graphics when your laptop's secondary GPU burns out Turned out to be pretty effective as well. I got a decent 20% boost in FPS by underclocking/undervolting the CPU and overclocking/overvolting the iGPU, in order to stay within thermal and power limits.
Turns out I was too quick to be satisfied. It works the first time you run it, but not the second time. It will whine about broken pipes and stuff. Also, pageant will block the terminal when it's not running yet. Look at this monstrosity: @echo off SETLOCAL EnableExtensions set EXE=pageant.exe FOR /F %%x IN ('tasklist /NH /FI "IMAGENAME eq %EXE%"') DO IF %%x == %EXE% goto FOUND start pageant pageant C:\Users\fpeij\.ssh\id_rsa.ppk :FOUND plink %* :FIN Look at that for loop, goto statements, oh my god how is batch still Windows' scripting thing!? Oh well, at least it worked twice in a row now.
Where is your Powershell implementation?
Do you guys know a good way to get thermal paste out of clothing? I have to deal with a lot of it for my work, and the stuff gets everywhere.
Hit it with some rubbing alcohol and let it sit for a few minutes and then wash it with hot water. Assuming it's the regular paste like AS5 or whatever.
Huh, I thought powershell was just a blue for with different commands available, I didn't know it was an actual scripting language too. Props to Microsoft for making something better than batch.
It's full .NET too PS C:\Users> [System.TimeZone]::CurrentTimeZone StandardName              DaylightName ------------              ------------ AUS Eastern Standard Time AUS Eastern Summer Time
I expect you to have something turned in by tomorrow evening.
You guys got any recommendations for a dedicated server provider that offers at least 1Gb/s bandwidth, 2TB of storage, 8GB of RAM and 4 cores without breaking the bank? I don't run anything too resource intensive on mine, only stuff like nginx, postgreSQL, Seafile, etc. It's essentially a big private cloud that also hosts content I want to share like files, videos, images, etc. Though I still need some performance because running it on a VPS, like I did in the past, ended up with plenty of complaints as I had periods where I exceeded the fair use limits. I'm currently on Kimsufi and the 100Mb/s bandwidth is really a big bummer. If it wasn't for that, it'd be the perfect server for the price.
So, my external HDD is now failing. Seeing as it's 4TB with 2TBs currently used for old projects and just general editing/design shit, I really cannot afford to lose those files and would like to get the off before the drive stops letting me actually get the files off. Right now it's at "random clicking" but it has shut itself off once already, so that's no good. Seeing as my internal storage isn't enough to back all of this up, and I can't really afford any more internal storage right now, is there actually any way I could set up some online redundancy, get the files on there, send this shit up to warranty (It's been THREE months since I've had the disk, ffs and it's barely ever moved from my desk) and eventually download it all back to this. Also, please don't bust my balls on redundancies, I cannot afford a NAS setup or RAIDs with decent storage, so I'm stuck with shitty unreliable storage but lots of space, which is what I need.
Only type of Cloud storage that gives you 2TB of space is Google One, and it's 10 Eur a month for that much data. Honestly uploading 2TB to online storage directly from a faulty drive is not a really good idea. I'd suggest just getting a second external HDD and just panic copy the most important parts before it dies completely.
yeah you want to offload as fast as possible and not be limited by your upload speed beg/borrow/sell panties to afford another drive
My idea would be offloading to my secondary drive that's like 1TB but reliable in two chunks and while uploading inbetween chunks and keeping the other drive shut off while uploading so as to avoid any further damage. I really cannot stress how "I can't really go about and spend on a drive right now" in a deephole I am, so... Yeah.
Why is buying watercooling parts for non-standard boards such a pain in the ass? 1080 FTW waterblocks are next to impossible to find. 1080Ti,1080 FTW 2 and 3, all super common but fuck you if you bought one with a different board design and are trying to get into it later.
Another option is backblaze: https://www.backblaze.com/backup-pricing.html ($5 a month) I believe you can pull files directly off their portal as well. I used it years ago, so I don't know if it is good anymore or not. Just be weary of having that HDD plugged in if it is clicking. The longer it is on the more of your data is being corrupted lost if it is on the way out.
