I put up all the wall mount displays at work and I'm terrified that one day they're going to just fall off the wall.
It had been up there for over two years, no idea what caused it to fall off in the middle of the night. I ordered a totally overrated mount now and will probably use my own mounting hardware if the included stuff is at all sketchy like it was with the other one.
I've drilled into brick where I can and used gripits for plasterboard that grab a hold from behind, both seem very stable.
Wow, I just had my first static electricity death today. My dad wanted a new Cat6 run in to the loft, and when inspecting the router gave it a huge zap. Surprisingly this didn't kill: Router Modem PC connected directly to router Switch in the loft Laptop connected to the loft Switch But it did kill the network chip for my blu-ray ripping machine on the loft switch... So I guess I've gotta go buy an old surplus Intel gigabit NIC now.
RIP. That shit always makes me paranoid; despite having hardwood floors and wearing slides 24/7, I constantly touch the radiators to ground myself when I'm working on electrical components.
Even when I'm in a DC (Those have ESD/conductive floor tiles) I usually touch the rack before I touch any equipment, just to be safe. That old PC was always super sensitive to static, if you even touched any of the USB headers with even the smallest amount of latent static, it would shut the PC right off. Guess it's fate static electricity killed one of its components.
The Dell t1500, a very common office PC from years ago, has this great fatal flaw with the front IO where you can zap it with static and crash the PC. Oh and sometimes plugging a USB in slightly wrong will short something and crash the PC too. Fun little quirk.
Any reason I can't get the latest Win10 update? I'm still on 1803 and I want that glorious dark mode. But Win Update says "nah bro, you're on the latest version, you're good"
Microsoft does some absolutely glacial rollouts. You can try electing for insider builds and stay on the release preview branch, it'll give you the 'latest' version of Windows generally as soon as it hits RTM (or a little beforehand)
It might depend on any delays that you've set up in your update options. That said, I'm on the semi-annual channel with an additional 3-week delay for feature updates, and I already got 1809 a couple weeks ago, so I'm guessing most people should have gotten it by now. If it still won't give it to you automatically, try the update assistant: Download Windows 10
Yeah I'm on the Targeted Semi-annual channel with no delays set. Idk I'll wait a little longer then maybe run that tool. Thanks guys.
I'm going straight from 1803 to 1903, they never rolled 1809 to me and I never bothered trying to force it. Pretty sure they wish people forgot that 1809 exists.
Just use the Windows Update assistant.
So, LPT: If your RAM comes in a blister pack, no matter how strong you think your hands are, avoid opening it with your hands. It basically exploded open on my left hand and now I have 6 stitches on it and 2 on my arm. Ram ended up expensive.
What's a good place to get a phone charger from? Lately my phone just seems to be charging for so long and I think it's either the cable or the charger and different cables seem to make no difference (unless I also need a high quality cable, not the one my phone came with).
The real reason I prefer heat spreader RAM.
I was building the computer in 2015 lol, nothing of that PC is even left now. In the RAM department all I can possibly do now is find some kit Ryzen likes, but I really don't care that much since I have some random 2400 16GB kit.
Does anyone have any clue how to mitigate or fix this issue with Chrome? Changing tabs causes this white screen to appear while it renders/loads, essentially flashbanging me. https://puu.sh/Dn8of/03c597798b.gif I have Windows in dark mode, Chrome recognizes that and has adjusted it's theme, and my accent color is the darkest grey I can pick. Supposedly Chrome was supposed to base the default background color off those settings, but it doesn't seem to be so. I'm willing to pay 50 Facepunch shekels to the savior.
It should not occur if you're using the latest version of chrome and install Material Incognito Dark Theme and Dark Reader
what the fuck https://i.imgur.com/EqZUi4l.png what the FUCK? https://i.imgur.com/yZtwzlN.png WHAT THE FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Yeah, something is super fucked with FF extensions right now. Apparently some kind of expired cert fuckup, if random posts on reddit are to be believed. I'm just going offline for the night, most sites are unbearable without heavy adblocking. Hope it's fixed by morning.
yeah, firefox's cert expired https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/bkhtv8/heres_whats_going_on_with_your_addons_being/ if you're on linux or nightly, disabling the xpinstall.signatures.required flag should work for you.
I guess not closing FF in an entire day really paid off for me, all my addons are still working for now.
Looks like that doesn't work indefinitely, eventually my addons got disabled too. Thankfully it only took me a minute to enable the hotfix.
I cannot figure out how to get the hotfix to work on my phone.
take a look at this cool ass bastard I just bought, fuck yes PDAs rule https://i.imgur.com/7guzUPa.jpg it's an Axim X3 400Mhz edition running Windows Mobile 2003. it's got infrared and wifi and I could even browse some websites with the last version of Opera released for WM2003: https://i.imgur.com/NHBhr9L.jpg
Hotfix doesn't work on Android yet, still being worked on. My phone is stuck in the same situation.
Install the hotfix XPI, fixed it on my phone. https://storage.googleapis.com/moz-fx-normandy-prod-addons/extensions/hotfix-update-xpi-intermediate@mozilla.com-1.0.2-signed.xpi
I had one of those before I had a smart phone, excellent machine for porn!

Also the cases design goes well along with the xbox one x i have.
