I had this the other week for a customer, not even phone line activation is supported anymore.
Day 2 - I have reinstalled Windows and forgotten what I had installed on my boot drive. Fuck me.
Everyone knows the first 3 months on a fresh windows install is nothing but realizing you're missing X program/setting and having to install and/or fix it
Yet somehow Windows XP activation over the phone still works. Customer has a single WinXP machine used for a CNC machine and it suddenly wanted to activate itself. Couldn't really plug it into the network, so I attempted the phone activation and it worked. It was like a month ago though.
just ordered a poweredge r420. i live in a 450 sqft apartment and that shit is going into my bedroom
my gfs gonna fucking KILL ME
You are not going to be able to run that thing, server fans are no joke.
I'd always suggest going with a used/refurbished/off-lease workstation before a full rackmount server. They're cheaper in price+shipping, dead silent, smaller and use a lot less power. Find something that can take 4 RAM slots and just max out the RAM. In most cases you're not going to go anywhere close to maxing out the CPU and for testing stuff you don't need to give every VM a TB of RAM.
OR, you can buy server motherboards with IPMI on ebay for not a lot of money, then combine that with leftover gaming PC parts or other used stuff from eBay.
im going to keep it in our closet and arbitrarily set the fan speeds using ipmitool. the 12g poweredge servers are not too loud at operating temp and load
Reinstalling Windows did not fix my audio issue either.
Great. That means my motherboard isn't doing something right at this point because the speakers play sound off my phone.
My USB headphones play sound. Only my motherboard audio ports do nothing. Fuck

If you hadn't broken it you wouldn't have that issue.
Why is the Windows 10 search feature so fucking unstable and garbage? I start typing a program name only to see the order change with every letter I type, I always get bamboozled by VSCode being the first entry and after I finish typing visual VS2017 jumps ahead and gets launched.
I vividly remember using the w7 search for just about everything and never having any trouble, what the fuck happened in the meantime? Who's the absolute fucking asshole that felt like changing what worked so well before?
this is the end boys

Laughs in Finnish
Had no problems getting to work today, it was perfect.
If that's an IMPERIAL RULER I laugh in metric.
tramp stamp beard.
I'm glad they brought the sails back
Aaand I think I just murdered this sophos firewall appliance
Was trying to find a power brick that can power it and was just test fitting the connectors, grabbed one of the laptop chargers, plugged it in without realizing the charger plug is in power, fan spun for a second and it just forever stayed on blue light. Unplugged it quickly, checked the laptop powerbrick aaaand... Pushed 20 volts to a device needing 12 volts.
Depending on what the thing is rated for, it could be fine. Most equipment is rated for a range of voltages. Chances are you could have killed some of the internal circuitry that takes the ~12v in and converts it down to most likely 3.3v and 5v. Does it smell?
Try plugging it into a proper power supply and see if it comes back. Some 12v equipment is rated to about 24v. Or it could be absolutely fucked, depends on how much Sophos cut costs on designing the thing.
washington has almost no plows because this kind of thing never really happens
the roads are also still covered in a solid sheet of ice in most places, and nobody knows how to drive on it, because this never really happens here
and we're due for round two this weekend
everything is going to suck
After a couple weeks of -35°C, it warmed up to -18 this week and I didn't feel the cold until I noticed my gloveless hands sticking to the metal handle of my ice scraper.
We might get 6 more inches on top of the 9 we already got last weekend
Hopefully we don't lose power, that'd suck
Meanwhile, my temperature just swung from --15C to +25C in about four days... I went from "running 3DMark for additional warmth" to "maybe I should turn on the AC". Fucking polar vortex global warming bullshit.
I've been absolutely loving this NAS I setup. It was super simple and straightforward, but does exactly what I want it to - store media, recordings, important documents, and set it up with RAID.
So hot.
Did AMD really just target the 7th as a launch day for marketing purposes? This sounds kinda like Vega FE, except this time there's not even the thin veneer of "just beta guys!":

It's not even because they have a huge amount of stock built up, either: AMD Radeon VII Graphics Card Has Low Allocation For UK at Launch
Like honestly, it's not even that bad of a card. Power efficiency wise, it's a lot closer to the RTX line-up, and while that's obviously a by-product of 7nm and not just "real" efficiency gains, it doesn't really matter which one it is as long as Nvidia's 7nm line-up isn't out.
Like why bungle this launch up just for the memes. Give the drivers another month in the oven and make it not a paper launch.
It's not a proper product, so it doesn't need a proper launch.
It's simply to fill a gap in some chart so the investors are happy.
radeon 7 launch card is pretty ok actually
except how linus compared nvidia features to it and didn't mentioned that vce 4.1 is a thing and that its actually cheaper msrp and trades blows with an rtx 2080
It's the same price (in the US) as a FE 2080 but not cheaper than AIB cards which seem to be about $699...It kind of makes the VII a much harder sell.
Give it a few months and I'm sure it'll be a great card, but right now it's really hard to recommend.
