Waiting to see how it performs under water, Vega had massive gains when cooled properly. Shouldn't require liquid cooling to be amazing but hey-oh.

What a mess, VCN was supposed to replace VCE and UVD.
I just discovered, after two solid hours of testing to confirm my hunch, that this stupid fucking sandisk USB drive will BSOD literally any PC you plug it into and it wasn't an issue with my workstation specifically.
Radeon VII doesn't have VCN. It's not inconsistent naming scheme.
VCN is the "successor" of UVD and VCE, or it least it was billed as such. It was a combined block of both the UVD and VCE silicon.
It is. But Radeon VII doesn't have it. It's only shipped in Raven Ridge. I don't know why it doesn't have it, but it doesn't. But it's not an inconsistent naming scheme.
It does messy up their offerings when they have VCE, UVD, and VCN.
But you need look no further than literally Radeon 7 to see how horrible AMD's naming consistency is:
We had the nice HD 3XXX, 4XXX, 5XXX, 6XXX, 7XXX series, then we moved to R(X) 2XX and 3XX, then Fury, then RX 4XX and RX 5XX, and Vega. And now Radeon 7.
Meanwhile Nvidia has had this beautiful sequential build where each generally adds 100 to the last, and that's that (except 2XXX series being a 1K jump).

The confusion is that AMD is still coming out with new Radeon 500 models after launching Vega, and they're actually architecturally 500s (GCN4) and lack features of Vega/VII (GCN5). And I have no fucking clue what's going on with video decode, I haven't paid attention to that.

well the idea is not to have trim levels. the year replaces the major number, the minor number is represented as v60 or v70 or v80 (or some other less stupid scheme) and the VRAM and any other features just float there
so like an RTX 2080 with 8 GB of VRAM would be a 2019 nvidia geforce RTX V80 8GB or something less stupid

I really hate how everyone being better than me at video games affects my enjoyment of them.
Case in point: Apex: Legends.
I played for two hours today, and it was just two solid hours of join match, land, die within 3 minutes, rinse and repeat. Even when the battle was on equal grounds I was just too shit to land any shots.
So I uninstalled it because I wasn't having fun any more. And I hate that games can be unfun simply because other people are that much better than you.
It's one of those games you need to play with friends.
Public games are terrible because people make stupid decisions and you have no control over it. Like landing in a highly contested area.

Not even real life friends. I dropped out of touch with everyone at school when I graduated. And all my friends at work are playing other games or have started a family and don't have time for games anymore.
