To be honest, they're both very good. The Gigabyte card has some really weird design flaws in that it has a big beefy solution which is mildly hamstrung by the fact that big parts of it make no contact whatsoever. It really doesn't make too much of a difference though, their performance will be within margin of error. If you can get your hands on an Asus or EVGA card, do it. They have basically the same VRMs but really good cooling solutions (especially Asus, which has one of the best performances when noise normalized for 40 dba.)
The only thing you should "avoid" is probably Zotac. Their coverage is terrible, and their backplates are useless.
Hopping in on the GPU discussion that's going on, what would be a better choice if I had to choose between AMD and nVidia for medium to higher end gaming when you want to look at a price range between 500-600 euros? Right now I've got a GTX 970 which is starting to show its age now that I picked up Metro Exodus. I've just done a quick comparison between the RTX 2070 and Radeon VII, and while the Radeon definitely blows the RTX 2070 out of the water I don't know how much I'd miss out if I get a card lacking the fancy PhysX and RTX features which quite a few games seem to have. A big requirement for me is to be able to have Shadowplay or an equivalent of AMD which I don't know exists at the moment.
I've been a bit out of the running with the GPU market these days, and especially now I want to catch up. Any opinions?
AMD has ReLive, roughly the same feature-set, except you don't need to log in to use it.
Optionally you can use OBS with the AMD AVC/HEVC encoder for more options.
Can anyone suggest a good mid-tower case for under £60? Tempered glass would be ideal but at this price point I'd assume that's asking a lot.
Check eBay and see if you can find an R6, I managed to get an R5 for $60 yesterday.
Yeah I just realized that card is way above my league, oops. I'll try to take a look if there's anything comparable to the RTX 2070.
2070 is going to be pretty much the best for that, possibly overkill, I use a 2070 on a 1440p 144hz display and it crushes with pretty much max settings on every game I play, at 144 fps
so it'll be great if you upgrade to bigger monitors

Rebuilt my PC.
150% oc on the gpu and doesn't even crack 48c. Thing is so quiet my tinnitus kicks in.
I left the cpu out of the loop cuz it made it hotter than the d15 thanks to my gpu.
how's the airflow on that case?
H500i has one vent on one side to pull into fans.
H700i has a grill going the length of the case top and bottom on each side. My airflow is amazing with the nzxt case fans at the front (the ones designed for unimpeded air flow).
Got 3x120 at front and a 140 at low speed at the back to make sure I get positive pressure. 280 rad on the top with two 140 fans that only kick in when gpu hits 45c, and they only need to spin at 25%.
A few things on that:
1. PhysX is basically dead, there is almost no reason to buy a card for PhysX unless you plan on playing older games which use it.
2. RTX is underutilized and very expensive on the gpu. Features like DLSS are underwhelming at best, and global illumination / ray traced reflections are faked very well by other cheaper means.
3. The 2070 is nearly identical to a 1080 in performance. If you can find one used from somewhere like hardoc, just do that. You'll end up spending like 60% of the cost.
I have a 1060, but the plan was I sell that for $150, sell some other stuff for $150 and grab a $300 used 1080.
I have an EVGA ITX sized 1060 with a crappy 120mm fan pointed at it as intake, but an FE card could work better than a full sized custom cooler with two 120mm’s pointed at it. I did that once with an R9 380, it was just too hot.
Welp
I have no idea what waterblocks I'm getting for my GPUs
" I am sorry, but we only have 1 x EK-FC1080-GTX-NP. Please let me know how you would like to proceed with your order. Thank you, and have a great day. "
I ordered the FTW ones though
Got an email with "Hi. I will go ahead and change it EK-FC1080 GTX FTW - Acetal+Nickel. Thank you, and have a great day." today though
but the shipping thing shows "EK-FC1080 GTX-Nickel Plated Copper Water Block with Plexi Top for Nvidia GTX 1080"
Genuinely have no idea what I'm going to get now.
I get you, the FE blower fans can be nice in constricted cases. This may sound stupid, but would you be opposed to cutting out a slot in the case for axial fans to get airflow? I did that years back on an Aspire AX1470, and my GPU stuck out the top of the case like the blower on a hotrod, but that thing ran cool as hell.
Your post made me start dicking around with my BIOS-settings and as an end-result, Prime95 went from pretty much instantly reaching 90+ celsius to never reaching 80 celsius. No change in performance at all.
Goddamn those settings were STUPID at default.
Yeah preach. It's nearly 40c in Melbourne today and I have no air con. It's so hot that idle cpu temp is 46c, and the highest temp during an hour of gaming was 71.
With an open air graphics card that is consistently ~90c under load. Disabling Asus bullshit is like magic.

I decided to swap out the gskill ram I had in my pc with some corsair 3200 speed 8x2 sticks, while doing some cable management, putting the CPU block up so the logos were aligned, and I took the labels off the PSU and flipped them around, so now even though it's obstructed by the side panel, the PSU model and wattage is still discernible when its off instead of upside down.
So I just installed my new Mobo and CPU and the Mobo has a extra CPU power plug do I need to plug something into that. My PSU only has a extra PCIE power cable. Is it fine if I don't overclock?

CAM is absolute crap, how can it use this much and still not fucking work properly
I'm really feeling like it's getting close to the point where I need to upgrade my 970. My 144hz display really isn't worth it on modern games with the 970 any more, if I want to actually keep any kind of graphical quality at least.
But god the market for cards over here is garbage. I can't really buy anything from the GTX 10xx series from an reputable retailers. The stock is pretty much entirely gone now. So I think that's kinda restricting me to RTX 20xx cards. AMD aren't looking super competitive again. But I haven't really been keeping up. Though I'm not entirely certain which of the after-market cooling solutions offered by the cheaper third parties are any good, because the price difference between like, a MSI 2070 and an EVGA 2070 over here is fuckin nuts sometimes.
(I mean I could always just finally get a closed loop cooler, if they even fit in an already crowded FD Arc Midi R2)
AiB Vega 64 cards aren't a bad choice if you can find em for reasonable prices (1080/2070 range).
Okay It hasn't yet. I played Siege for about 2 hours no issue; Running cool aswell. I'll worry about the extra cable my next day off lol
I built my first computer I think about four or so years ago, for around 550$. It's served me well in the time that I've had it, but I think I'm going to upgrade soon-ish. Recently got a better paying job, so I figure once I save up enough money I'll be able to get myself a whole new system. It'll probably be a few months before I have the money together, but I got time.
Jesus, RX 64 card supplies seem a bit limited all around here as well. A few models available on the usual suspects (eBuyer, Scan, OCUK), averaging around £400.
God damn the market here is fucking terrible.
I'm still trying to find a visually appealing GPU/CPU temp monitor that isn't CAM. I've got HWiNFO64 but its monitor is basically a spreadsheet of 90% irrelevant (to me) data.
Genuinely forgot PCPartPicker was a thing. So there's like £60 between an RX 64 and a RTX 2070. The 2060 looks promising bench wise, around the same price as the RX 64, with a similar level of performance and more availability in this hellisland.
I think I might look for something that could give me more longevity. I ran a GTX 460 for like 6 to 7 years before switching to this 970, I'm not super keen on upgrading every other generation. But the 970 fell off so hard that my hand is being forced a bit. 2070s are pushing my max price as it stands, I can afford one easily. I'm just a very tight motherfucker who doesn't like seeing the numbers go down.
Really should have included my res; 1080@144. The 970 is just about pulling it's weight at 4GB (with the usual 3.5GB of it actually being fast thing thanks to nVidia). But it's peaking more and more as I try newer games.
It's mostly just the 144hz bit, it's getting harder and harder to hit a divisible, and frame tearing fucks with me more than it used to. Though I should probably give OC'ing another shot. Last time I had a go I introduced a lot of instability to certain games.
What CPU do you have?
9700k
