yeah but if you can get away with active dedicated cooling you may as well go for it. an e3 1240 is like 80w and based on him saying the top can be open I'm guessing its a home server so just running deltas at 100% pwm 24/7 might not be ideal
I just did the numbers and after a little rounding, that build cost roughly $1,950...
Holy shit what the fuck was I smoking
Thermaltake Core V1 Small Form Factor Gaming PC Build | eBay
Well, lets see where this takes me.
$2000 "Purchase now" is optimistic
That's why I allowed "Or best offer"
Mother. FUCKER.
So I put it down as "no international shipping" on ebay, and when I get home today from work I'm surprised by an offer of $2,000 for it, so basically what I want, but the dude is from the Philippines.
So I'm kind of at odds right now...
Yeah that's fishy as hell.
I buy/sell from eBay pretty often. Drop anything that asks to message outside of eBay's messaging system. They do that so when you get scammed, there's no official record that eBay or PayPal can refer to.

Minus the isn't not, I sure fucking told him.
So if anyone is interested the solution was removing the CPU fan from the big heatsink and putting it on the supermicro 1U heatsink. Fits perfectly. The legs that put pressure on the heatsink to stay in place work but don't clip on. Still, doesn't come off and doesn't vibrate.
So now I'm out a few hundred dollars for trying to remove the backplates on a few motherboards. Lesson learned. Luckily, ebay is a thing and you can buy these cheap sometimes.
Now that AMD is finally pushing out pci 4.0, how long will it take for Intel to support it too?
Probably not that long. I'm pretty sure Ice Lake will support it.
Ice lake will launch in laptops this year, and then desktops next year iirc
This is more a monitor question than PC building but theres currently a deal on an Acer XB1 Predator (XB241Hbmipr) which costs 539€ but is dropped to 379€ on a local webstore. Is it worth the price? I already have a 144hz monitor which would replace my old second 60hz screen and use this as the main.
I think my mobo broke today. I guess this is a good excuse to finally upgrade. Or at least I think it's the Mobo.
So I'm looking at a rough budget of £600-650, preferably less if possible, but I'm looking to upgrade to Zen2 after it launches;
CPU: Ryzen 3700X/3800X/3900X. I'm wanting something to get me through for the same length that my 3570k has got me through since early 2013. I suspect 3900X will push me outside of my budget and while I have considered the 3700X someone suggested the 3800X will be the better bet for future proofing. Is it likely that 8-cores will be more than sufficient for the coming years, probably up till around 2024-2025? No idea on cost yet since UK prices haven't been confirmed.
Motherboard: ATX - I'm guessing an X570 will be my best bet?
Cooler: Not sure whether to go with the stock cooling or get an AM4 bracket for my CM 212 Evo, also not sure if it would even fit. May consider sticking to the stock solution for now.
RAM: 16GB - with Ryzen the higher frequency is the better, so probably in the 3000-3200MHz region. Are there any cons/risks to buying second hand RAM? Just seems better than the scalp pricing. That said, I have seen these two Corsair Vengeance 1600 2x8GB DDR4 sticks going for £85 right now. Is it worth picking these up now for later use or waiting a little longer.
PSU: I was thinking a 750W modular PSU, Seasonic - would be going off the LTT Tiers thread
GPU: Still got a Founders' Edition GTX 1080 - not sure if it'll be worth trying to pawn this off with my old build once I've swapped over or not and switch to Navi, may just hang onto it for now.
Case: I'm hoping to downsize from the Fractal R4 I've had and grab a case which could ideally fit the underside rack on my desk which measures at the bottom railing a width of approximately 217mm. So far I've been looking at the Fractal Meshify C and the CoolerMaster NR600. Alternatively, if I couldn't find one that would sufficiently fit the rack without compromising room for hardware/airflow then I'd consider anything that would still reduce the space taken up on my desk.
SSD: If I've money left over, I'm looking for an NVMe, not sure where to go with the Crucial CT1000P1SSD8 or the Samsung MZ-V7E1T0BW 970 EVO - the first is obviously the cheaper option and better for a budget but I've heard nothing but praises for Samsung's storage solutions.
Between Navi and rumors of a 2060 price cut to $250 I’m unloading the 1080. If the 2060 does drop that’ll wreak havoc on resale values. When this is all over I’ll most likely either pick up a cheap 2060 or 1070 or Navi if that’s somehow $300.
When you buy pc parts you should expect low resale and be willing to part ways with your money.
I'm quite grateful to have got my 1080 for £170 earlier this year.

To be honest I was hesitant as fuck to look at the image because "haha look at this hamster, yeah right" then click the link to see something terrible.
At least that's... pleasant.
You know I don't even know what the fuck anyone thinks is fair for this so I'm so lost that is kind of depressing. All I want is to sell the thing and all I've got is spam and people fucking with me.
Well... I have an offer for $1,200... I'm tempted because I need the cash but I don't want to completely lose my ass on the damn thing.
Man.
Tell him 1500 and settle for 1350.
Well, hopefully he finds $1,500 fair enough and goes for that, if not it was at least worth asking.
I just got a 2080ti but it's running sort of hot and I'm not really getting the frames I was expecting from it, specially trying to hit 144 fps in destiny, 1080p. I reinstalled windows too, but I can only seen to get around 120.
Define "sort of hot" for us. Check the GPU core temperatures with HWinfo or HWMonitor or something.
Stupid question, but are you using HDMI or display port?
You're most likely CPU bottle-necked. A 2080ti at 1080p will push any CPU to its limit.
I personally was thinking he might be using HDMI, which as far as I know limits itself at 120hz, though I could be wrong.
I had a similar issue with the cube PC til I started using the displayport, after that it was solid 144hz.
