so i ditched the 1080, here’s what the plan is:
no RTX price cuts and Navi is shit->1070 Founders Edition
RTX price cuts and Navi is shit: 2060 is now $249->2060
Navi is good and there’s a $349 card->Navi
Navi is good but expensive af->??????
I was thinking about replacing my CPU cooler with this:
https://noctua.at/en/nh-d15/specification
But that weight! 1320g! Can the motherboard stand almost fucken 1,5kg of metal hanging sideways from it?
If you want to make sure whether or not you are CPU limited open task manager, go to the performance tab, right-click the big graph in the CPU tab and change the graph to "logical processors".
Then open a game and look at the CPU graphs and the GPU graph, if one or more of the logical processors are around 100% and the GPU is below ~95% then you're CPU limited.
Keep in mind that your CPU usage will vary between games, and increasing your graphical settings will increase your GPU usage relative to your CPU usage.
Yes, much of the weight is held and distributed by the cooler backplate and the motherboard itself is held taut and firm by the standoffs. At least, it should be.
My NH-D14 has been hanging off this motherboard for 9 years and every few months gets carried all around to get air compressored out, it's been off at least 30-40 times. Noctua's SecuFirm is amazing.

I'm considering pulling the gun on this build after E3 Navi announcements provided GPU prices drop a bit.

I'll probably get a better CPU cooler later and I have spare disks already. Price is about 660€ right now because I'm not in the US and I don't expect the ryzen 3k/navi/new mobos to be even close to MSRP in eastern Europe on release meaning even after release i'd have to wait an extra month or two for things to settle down(Stuck with integrated graphics in the meanwhile).
What does everyone think?
I would go for a normal 2600, it will save you €50. You wont lose out on much performance.
It's worth considering a GTX 1660, it's about 10-15% faster than the 580. Might age a bit slower since its a much more recent card.
