Basically I have a crappy old wooden desk, where my tower just sits on the floor, and I kinda want a new desk now, I was wondering if anyone here could recommend some decent desks, price range up to £400
Two used filing cabinets @ about 30" tall and a solid wood door.
I spent ages trying to find a large, solid desk. I was even looking through furniture stores and flee markets for tables trying to find something. Even ikea was a massive disappointment as any desk that could've been passable was immediately struck off because of some dumb gimmick they had to put on it.
I don't think I could've gotten something better for my money and I only paid like $200. Been rocking it since mid 2017. Super solid and stable, it doesn't ebb under my weight and a shitton of cabinet space and a shitton of desk space. I could probably put 3 32" monitors on here and they wouldn't go over the sides of the desk.
anymore recommendations, or is it not worth spending lots on a desk and just doing something like Humin?
Always go the recycled/used route for furniture, check craigslist or the UK equivalent and look there. I got my desk free from a non-profit yard sale (they didn't sell it at the end of the day, but they also didn't want to carry it up 2 flights of stairs). I used it as I got it for a while, then painted it with crap latex based paint. I got sick of the peeling, so I removed the legs, planed/sanded/primed/painted the desk, and mounted it directly to the wall. For less than $200 this is what I ended up with:
All the other furniture in this image is recycled/free stuff too.
I found its best to build your own if you want the ultimate desk. I just got some oak wood painted it black, also built some cabinets that have rack mount slots too.
I've been using it since 2009 and don't plan on replacing it anytime soon.
That money is probably better spent on an ergonomic chair. But you could get a Flexispot E1 for £300.
I got this Desk, says unavailable on the page but it cost me £149.95
You can easily fit your tower on the longer or shorter side depending on what you want your setup to be, but there's enough space, the pull out try just about fits a Logitech G105 Keyboard and a Hyperion Fury Mouse, it's not too tight either, the caddy thing under the tray though it's not big enough for my computer case, which is a Corsair Carbide 200r
It's a great desk as far as I'm concerned, I've got 3 monitors on it, 2 for PC one for Consoles, of which I have my PS4 Pro Xbox One X setup at the end of the longer piece, as it says on the page too you can change where the tray goes, like the picture, I've got the desk setup almost exactly the same but the tray is on the shorter of the two parts, it's good, decent price too for what it is.
