• Razer Deathadder or Logitech G500

I have had a DeathAdder for a few years. My only complaint is that its kind of glossy on the sides so it gets dirty easily.
I don't like small mice, lightweight mice or ergonomic mice. I like decently sized - large mice, and don't start adding other mice into this, I'm asking g500 or Deathadder, not g400 or razer naga or crappy 200 DPI childs mouse.
Well some of the best mice out there (WMO, IMO 1.1, IME 3.0) all have 400 DPI. They're better than almost anything Logitech, Razer, or Steelseries have to offer while being cheap at the same time.
The only problem I hate on the WMO/IME are the random scroll wheel bug other than that they're fine. Myself I had a Deathadder for 2 years, before I broke it by my own self by throwing it across the room. Otherwise it would have lasted fine.
you should get razer, because they saved pc gaming man. pun asides i vote for g500, it just like mx518, its the perfect design

My G500 my temper for half a year until my sister stole it, from there it mostly only had to survive parties and beer spills, which it has. They are tough, whereas Razer's only known for it's macros and razorbashing@Dreamhack
I thought I might share a story about my G500 and why logitech is awesome. As I'm sure I mentioned somewhere I have two G500's, and I only purchased one of them. When I got my first one the wire was kinked right where it comes out of the front of the mouse and it wouldn't un-kink. I recall it was like this when I opened it up so I assume it was packaged incorrectly. Keep in mind this was almost 2 years ago and the second G500 I got was properly packaged so either this was a one-off thing or it's fixed a long time ago. Anyways the kink in the wire, after one and a half years of everyday use, damaged the isolation of the cable and of the data- wire (white wire) inside which would occasionally short to the grounded shielding inside the cable. Despite being an easy fix for me, being the fixer-maker person I am, I decided to contact logitech and get a replacement. Cause shit, who doesn't love free stuff? Anyways I got my replacement and set about mending my broken one, I opened it up and basically cut off all of the damaged cable, stripped the wires inside and soldered them directly to the 5 pin JST ZH contact inside (cause re-crimping those contact is just waaaaaaay too much work) and nowadays it looks - and works - like a brand new mouse. Anyways what I wanted to share is that after voiding the warranty of my broken mouse I managed to fuck up the glide pads by not being careful about where I put them while I was repairing the mouse. The awesome part here is that I emailed logitech explaining the whole story, that my mouse broke and I got a replacement, and that I now opened up and fixed the broken one and needed new glide pads. They where like "Yeah sure it should arrive in 3-5 business days". I'd also like to add that getting the replacement G500 took only a few days and was very painless. Good customer support is the no. 1 reason I stay loyal to companies.
Logitech customer support is so overly helpful I've seen/heard various cases of them being defrauded for free stuff.
you dont know what pun means
"you should get razer, because they shaved pc gaming man." Fixed.
Deathadder, the G500 (ignoring sensor issues and being a laser mouse) is very bulky and the ergonomics aren't that great in my opinion (but ergonomics don't matter too much unless they are very bad for a mouse). The adjustable weight and DPI is a gimmick as well, since you want your mouse to be as light as possible and DPI doesn't actually matter (look at Quake pros and CS pros who play with 400/800 DPI).
I don't think most people actually care about what settings pro players use. I like to be able to turn around without making large movements with my arm and not having to lift my mouse off the desk at any time, so I use a sensitivity of roughly 7cm/360°. 800DPI is not enough at such sensitivities. Granted, anything past 3000DPI doesn't really matter since it's extremely hard to pull off a single-pixel mouse movement at that point. The weights are a gimmick though, I'll give you that. [editline]5th May 2012[/editline] OP, I also own a G500 and it's a great mouse in my opinion, however I don't know how it compares to a Deathadder since I've never used one yet.
I haven't tried both, only the G500, but I would like to vouch for their world renowned hassle-free technical support ("Oh yeah sure cut the cord we'll send you a new mouse even though your warranty expired 3 years ago") and the quality of the build. I've literally never had a Logitech mouse break. Others have, not going to lie, but I played a bit rough with a lot of mine and they all survived. Precision is no problem, drivers are never an issue, the mouse runs fine with or without SetPoint software, and it is rather inexpensive compared to a lot of SteelSeries/Razr offering especially on sale (depends where you live and when you buy though)
I don't think the weights are a gimmick, I mean I only used them once on my G9x, but I tried it with different weights and found one that's more comfortable to me than the other combinations.
I own a G5 and love this mouse. IIRC the G500 is an upgraded version. I would definitely recommend the G500, it'll be my next mouse when my G5 dies, which will be soon.
Precision is no problem
You're telling me that acceleration that can't be turned off isn't a problem?
You're telling me that acceleration that can't be turned off isn't a problem?
you can turn the acceleration off
you can turn the acceleration off
No, you can't. The Avago ADNS-S9500 sensor itself has slight positive acceleration. http://www.scribd.com/doc/79000443/Mouse-Sensor-Comparison
No, you can't. The Avago ADNS-S9500 sensor itself has slight positive acceleration. http://www.scribd.com/doc/79000443/Mouse-Sensor-Comparison
The source for that information is a forum post. There is no noticeable acceleration when disabled.
The source for that information is a forum post. There is no noticeable acceleration when disabled.
Here is a count percentage graph of the Xai (which uses the same sensor as the G500) as movement speed increases: The positive acceleration becomes noticeable as the average count percentage increases above 100% as the speed increases. Same guy who took this graph doing a test on the G9x (which also uses the same sensor as the G500): It can be seen that as the speed increases, yet again, the count percentage (which starts at nearly 100%) increases over 100%, thus indicating positive acceleration.
Using a cpi divisible by 90 makes a difference to the positive acceleration I doubt that video uses such a setting as it's a logitech mouse and it can only be adjusted in blocks of 50 (iirc), and I'd be interested to know what cpi that xai graph uses Also if I'm not mistaken that's a glass pad? Surely those are for optical mice
You're telling me that acceleration that can't be turned off isn't a problem?
No I'm not, I am clearly quoted as stating that precision wasn't a problem. I do not get forced acceleration on my machine.
BUT GUYS, WHEN YOU MOVE YOUR G500 OVER 60MPH IT SOMETIMES STOPS WORKING RIGHT, GOSH
BUT GUYS, WHEN YOU MOVE YOUR G500 OVER 60MPH IT SOMETIMES STOPS WORKING RIGHT, GOSH
The acceleration basically kicks in at 1 m/s, which is really not that fast. Measure out a meter, and see the speed it takes to cover the distance in one second. That speed is very commonly reached in FPS games, especially in something fast paced like Quake Live (unless you play at a really high sensitivity, in which case you can't aim as precisely as with lower sensitivities like 10 inches per 360), so the acceleration does have an effect on your aim.
Why do you keep pulling out statistics and research to prove something incredibly trivial? We get it, you don't like the G500, you don't need to make scientific reports to point out why
The dismissive argument "why even waste time on that?"? I don't not like the G500, in fact, it's a good mouse for general use, and I own one, and have owned two G5s before that. What I don't like is how Facepunch has been biased towards it and Logitech for ages and act like the G500 is the end-all, without giving any due credit to the Deathadder to which it is being compared in this thread. And yes, you can say "why waste time writing that shit." Well, different things interest different people. Mechanical keyboard people obsess over the details, as do audiophile headphone users, just as some mice users do.
odellus is banned so im gonna say intellimouse for him
+1 on that (or WMO). saves you some money as well
Why do you keep pulling out statistics and research to prove something incredibly trivial?
It wasn't trivial to me: compared side to side I noticed the g500 has a worse sensor than the DA. Da felt more precise. But yeah, I guess most people play with a really high sensitivity and won't notice it.
My Deathadder is still going strong after 2 years. Personally I didn't like the feel of the G500 and the Deathadder fit my hand better. You should try holding both before making a decision, because you're going to be using it all the time.
My main question here, is the g500 going to be as good if not better than my sidewinder x8 or is it going to be worse?
The Sidewinder mouse line was pretty terrible compared to their WMO/Intellimouse counter-parts.
Personally i use a G400 and used an MX518 before that, i loved the MX518 and i love the G400. Although from razer, most of the mice are reeally not that great for the price, with the only exceptions being the DA, Imperator and Abyssus, all the others are seriously not worth it
