No matter what the title says, that is not a mid tower. It's one of the biggest cases on the market.
Lol, 250$ mid-tower case? Get this instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811118029&cm_re=Ikonik_ra_x-_-11-118-029-_-Product
Full tower + better cooling and excellent brand

Could you please stop giving advice? Or just leave this thread? You're terrible at it.
The Corsair 800D is great. Get it.

And I suggest the 1366 socket, so he can upgrade to the i9 in a few years........
1156 is going to be the new intel mid end socked, while 1366 the high-enthusiast one..
also that brand sucks dicks, and 1366 is dying.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119187 or the 800d when newegg gets it back in stock.
Edit: Oops, it is in stock: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139001&Tpk=800D

fucks sake stop telling everyone to keep 1336. the i5 is better AND cheaper, and the i9 will most likely be too expensive to even consider

is that little colored part in the upper left the ENTIRE motherboard?
That is the entire motherboard.
Damn. So is anybody else gonna have a go at this? If not I'll make a shitty build just so people can make fun of it.
This + 5870 ($400).
For OS, use Win7 RC and upgrade to full for $30 with that student discount. This build doesn't have any combo deals, so you could probably shave a few bucks off with those.
Justification for parts:
i5 750 - great value, and performs on par with the more expensive i7 920.
P55-UD6 - excellent board; probably the best P55 board on the market today.
4GB OCZ DDR3-1066: Cheap, get more expensive/faster stuff if you so desire. Truthfully, you won't notice too much of a performance difference between DDR3 1600 cas 7 and DDR 1333+ cas 9.
WD 1TB Caviar Black: Big, well price, reliable.
Corsair 800D: Excellent case that will serve you for years to come.
Corsair HX750: One of the best PSUs on the market; this will serve you for years to come as well,
Samsung DVD burner: It was on the suggested items. If you want LightScribe, Blu-Ray, w/e, get one of those.
Remember, this build doesn't have a graphics card with it. I'd suggest the 5870, which comes out in less than a week, or a pair of 4890s. If you need a display, the Samsung 2343BWX is the best thing out there for $200.
definitely get a monitor, IIRC plasmas are just terrible as monitors, plus burn in and shit
do you need any peripherals e.g keyboards, mice and shit
Excellent point. Assuming the plasma is 1080p, the pixel density will be meh at best. Go for a nice LCD, such as the Samsung posted above. The resolution is excellent, and that many pixels in a 23" panel makes for an excellent pixel density. At that price, I'd buy 3 more and go all EyeFinity on that shit.

. . .
Prismatex is back???
Ayup.
Honestly speaking.. My dad is insisting on using the plasma... So any tips on how to make that work best?
Edit:
*snip*
Edit for stupid:
My bad.. It's an 1080... My dad just laughed at me for that one...
you're not going anywhere near your budget. Tell him there's no reason NOT to get it.

Also, stop with the damn 1366 socket shit. In a few years his 1366 socket mobo that costs him $150 will be outrunned by a $70 mobo then.

Edit:
It's an 720p... Does that change anything?
720p is a crap resolution to be PC gaming on... 1280x720
720p is a crap resolution to be PC gaming on... 1280x720
Not to mention the pixel density on a 50" will be shit.
the monitor posted above will look a thousand times better
and if you get a rig that expensive for 720p then you're just wasting so much potential
Fixed stupid above... It's an 1080
What's with people and their stupid dads lately
720p is a crap resolution to be PC gaming on... 1280x720
most go up to 1920x1080, my tv was suppose to max out at 1366x768, it goes to 1920x1080

My old TV did 720p, it was good enoughfor Xbox games, but it was only 42" and i was sat 4-5 feet away.
Honestly he wants 1080i/p at least.

1366x768 is just the recommended resolution, not the max resolution. They're not always the same. It's probably blurry as fuck at 1920x1080.
