• Reccomendation parts for a gaming desktop
    14 replies, posted
I will be building a gaming desktop over the summer an I would like some reccomendations on parts. my budget is around $1500 (just to start off, I will later update the computer.) I would like reccomendations on: motherboard with at least 2 expansion ports CPU that has a decent amount of speed RAM with decent amount of memory Power supply Hard Drive again decent amount of memory Case and anything else that could be squeezed in would be great(which will probably not happen.) This comper also would be running games like Fallout 3 and TF2 and perhaps Morrowind. Thank you for any reccomendations and I know it sounds a little naive but It would not hurt to hear what has to be said.
If you just want to run fallout and morrowind, 1500 is way more than you need to spend.

Don't get i7 if you're just gaming a i5 3570k is cheaper and will perform the same. You don't need 2133mhz ram its just pointless for your needs get 1600mhz ram like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233335). 8gb of ram will be enough for normal gaming uses if you do dive into photoshop and video editing then 16gb maybe necessary. Also as mentioned before the games you posted aren't demanding and 1500 dollar is over kill if you only play those games but if you still do want a powerful computer then get a HD 7970 and a solid 256gb SSD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147193) and add in a good CPU cooler like the Noctua D14.
Later on I planned on actually working on photoshop and playing skyrim and so on but I am just builsding something to start out with and upgrade later.
A GTX 650 Ti or 660 would be fine. I don't know enough about Radeons to tell you what would be a decent card, by at a guess I'd say take a look at the 7850 or 7870.

What are your current system specifications?
There's no real reason to pay $1500 for a gaming computer, and especially at the end of a hardware cycle (we'll see new GPUs and CPUs in just a few months). In my opinion (as posted by striker as well), an i5 3570K (and maybe get a good cooler), a big SSD and 7970 would be more than adequate. He could use the rest of the money to upgrade later on.
the 3770k and asrock z77 extreme 4 is pretty damn good. throw in a gtx 670 and you've got a hell of a pc. if you have money left over, buy a bigger ssd. If you want ridiculous amount of ram, you can do an asrock x79 board and i7 3820.
With a good graphics card (GTX 670, AMD 7870, 7970, etc.), you will not notice a difference in performance between a 3570k and 3770k in games. I have compared almost identical computers, one running a 3770k, one a 3570k, and the biggest difference in fps I ever noticed was like 5 more on the 3770k. Really the only reason I see the need for a 3770k over 3570k is if you're streaming or rendering. Go with what Striker said.

Might I suggest doubling those SSD's as most unfortunate people install their games on their main system drive. From my experience have a dedicated game drive is just awesome when it comes to performance - including loading times and multi-tasking while gaming. Like I said above, for 1.5k!, you could build a supercomputer for all your computer needs. While I think it's a bit extreme, you might be an extreme type of person. Happy building!

I would also add that I'm not quite sure if a samsung 840 is the fastest SSD out I'm pretty sure a Corsair Neutron GTX is faster in the large file transfer
An i3-2100 processor and a 6950/560 Ti OC level gpu- although I think a 6950 might be just a little bit much for a 2100 -would be redundant capacity for what you're demanding. They're pretty affordable (although I've noticed some retailers have stopped selling their 500 series cards for clearance prices :v:)
Dude, 1500 is WAY more than what you need to spend, even to build a home supercomputer, if your just playing fallout, tf2 ,morrowind ,etc; you might be able to get away with 700, but 1000-1200 will be enough to anything for another 3-4 years
