how can it not work, it's a simple tool if it doesn't work your paperclips are made out of gallium or your keys are glued on
my keys must be glued on because i can't get a key off with 2 screwdrivers.
Not sure how purist people are in this thread :v: But I recently got a Steelseries 6GV2 for cheap, first mechanical keyboard I've used. Got Cherry Black MX switches and it's a really solid piece (~1 kg). Steelseries is generally a "gaming accessory" maker but the keyboard is free from any gimmicky crap, all it's got is your basic media keys that are activated by a function key down on the left. That typing is a dream compared to the crap I've used before goes without saying.
Steelseries keyboards aren't bad at all, they're just overpriced, if you got it cheap then nice one!
I got the keys off, for the price of my finger skin. There was so much hair and fluff under the keys. Now I'm doing a full clean.
Steelseries keyboards aren't bad at all, they're just overpriced, if you got it cheap then nice one!
I don't see how 90 bucks is overpriced for full sized MX black keyboard w/ costar.
I just broke my old G15 V1 and now I can't decide between buying a G19 or a Black Widow Ultimate. I'm going to be using it primarily for gaming, mostly FPSs. Any advice which might sway my decision either way?
I have completely cleaned my keyboard, I took every key off and cleaned them with q-tips soaked in rubbing alcohol.

The only thing I've ever used it for is monitoring GPU temps, and just getting that to work was a pain in the ass. There are literaly no useful apps for the screen. The few games that have it working rarely display anything that isn't already on screen, either directly, or by means of a single button press (ex: in BFBC2 you could see your kills/deaths and ping, which are already on the scoreboard). For the same price as a G19 you could get a high quality mechanical keyboard, much better than a Blackwidow. I payed more for my G19 than I did for my Filco (including customs and shipping, the Filco was marginally more expensive). The Filco is so much better though. The only thing I really miss is the media buttons from the G19, and even those didn't get used that often. The Blackwidow probably isn't that bad, but you don't get NKRO. That can be a problem when gaming, since you often press multiple keys at once in FPS games for strafing, crouching and the lot. The blackwidow also has blue cherry switches, which are not the best for FPS gaming. The reason being that the release point is higher than the actuation point. Personally i have brown switches, and I think they are very comfortable to both type and game on. I actually like the tactile feel even when I'm gaming. Just my 2 cents.
I moved from a G19 to the Black Widow. (Dont get the ultimate its a gimmicky piece of shit) if you can pick up a decent mech keyboard (Black widow is not decent) then do that. Having said that I'm currently typing on a Razer Black Widow and eh. While its better than a rubber dome, other mech's are better.
Another G19 user here, it looks awesome, has nice media buttons like the rolling volume knob which I used alot but once I got my hands on a nice mechanical, my G19 went into the closet never to be used again. I looked at that LCD screen maybe 3 times a month for Fraps or temps. After getting used to the media fn keys on my CM Storm, it replaced nearly every feature I used on my G19. Still wish I had that volume knob tho.
I don't see how 90 bucks is overpriced for full sized MX black keyboard w/ costar.
You can get a customizer for cheaper, a leopold for the same price, and a Filco/WASD for $20 more, I don't know, I just never associated Steelseries with being a premium brand, they're like Razer to me.
Literally the opposite.

I haven't tried their keyboards but they make great headsets and mice.
>great headsets Implying it's possible for a headset to be great. ALL headsets are trumped by HTF600's and a Modmic. Gaming ones at least, Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser make good ones, though they're still overpriced.
They are great, but you get what you pay for and Steelseries > Logitech > Razer I do own a pair of Sennheiser HD555's but they are suffering the dreaded headband cracking fault. I got my Cherry Blue CM Storm today, can't say I am a fan so far of these keys but maybe I need to break them in a bit. The windows key is a bit hard and squishy and I am missing a few keys while typing, definitely a dramatic change from the Reds, I do love the sound of the keys though. asdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasdasd asdfhjkl asdfhjkl asdfhjkl asdfhjkl Sounds good man.

Siberia V2's for the price they're at now are fine, and the HTF600's aren't as amazing as everyone makes them out to be.
1saleaday had an epic Steelseries sale a couple weeks back, they were selling the 5Hv2s and Siberia V2s dirt cheap.

I don't suppose you know which is the best-for-gaming mech keyboard for that price?
um they're pretty amazing
You haven't heard much then.
um they're pretty amazing
Amazing compared to most headsets, amazing compared to other headphones, no. They do have the bass people love though. I have heard them, I much prefer my Audio Technica M50s. The sub bass is nicer and its just more well rounder. Also more comfortable for me. Amazing build quality on them like a lot of Audio Technica's nicer headphones, solid metal plug with spring relief on the cable means wrapping it up is no big deal. I will stop talking about my headphones in the keyboard thread. They work well at keeping out the sound of bottoming out on my Deck Legend Tactile Frost when gaming.
I have ditched my desktop in favour of my laptop and I'm selling off all of my bits. I now have a Razer Black Widow that I no longer need, anyone in the market to buy?
Trying to breathe some life back into my IBM model M that was dropped while being shipped to me and has been iffy ever since
Thanks for the advice, you've swayed me away from both! I have a budget of about £140 (about $222.) I don't suppose you know which is the best-for-gaming mech keyboard for that price?
Well, I'm no expert by any means. I did do a bit of research when I bought mine though. In the end I went with a Filco Majestouch-2 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swedish-Finnish-Majestouch-2-Tactile-Keyboard/dp/B0042T9SY4) with brown switches. I'm very happy with it so far, both for typing and for gaming. The keyboard itself is a solid peice, but it's completely basic. There are no extra features whatsoever. As for what kind of switch to go with, I was very undecided. I considered both reds and blues and browns. I'm not sure you can get the Filco with reds, but I was initially looking at something I could get here in Norway, namely the Corsair K60. I know a friend who has one of those, and it seemed decent. The design is a bit unique, but if you don't mind that, and the fact that some of the less used keys are rubber domes you'd probably do okay with that. That being said, it's not quite the same build quality as the Filco I have myself. I was also looking at blues for a while, thinking that they would be decent enough to game with. I didn't want to get something I'd end up being frustrated with either though. I really can't stand being killed in games when the reason for it is something outside the game (like a misclick or lag that would not have occured with different hardware, for example). The thing is that blues have the release point higher than the actuation point, and this apparently takes some getting used to when playing games, particularly FPS. In the end i just went with browns, because I figured they would be the best compromise between typing and gaming. Most people seem to view them as a sort of middleground between typing and gaming, so that seemed like the safest choice for me, being a first time mechanical keyboard user. An added bonus with the Filco is that they sell red keycaps for the esc and wasd keys, so it looks badass :v:
What country you're in would help.
Forgot flagdog is gone. UK.
Welp cleaned up my MTek 104 and the keys appear to be working now. Defiantly feels different then the rubber domes of a G15 and the tactility/click is nice, but I'm not sure if I like it better yet. I read that you can mod white alps to be linear like the cherry black/red. Is linear any better?
