I'm really annoyed, I want brown switches, but if I bought a keyboard with brown switches from WASD, they're out of stock and they won't get the switches until around the 25th, which means I won't get the keyboard until much later.
Only alternatives are black, red, or blues, and I'm not sure which is the best for both typing and gaming (I do a lot of both.)
edit: ugh, double post, sorry.
Add another £20 for customs fees aswell Jellyman.
It'd be cheaper to get a Filco and some custom keycaps, better build quality and you can get tenkeyless which you should always do if you don't use the numpad.

Wait, £82 for the keyboard, another £33 for postage, and then an additional £20?
Edit: where could I buy a filco, and custom keycaps? I'm really only looking at WASD because of the convenience with customization.
I also don't see how it'll be cheaper, UK Filco Majestouch-2, Tenkeyless is £114 inc. VAT, custom keycaps for what I want it to look like (would pretty much be replacing all the keys) would make it come to a lot more, wouldn't it?
edit 2: Did the math, it'll be cheaper to get a WASD keyboard than a Filco with custom caps.
So from what I gather browns are just the middle ground between blues and reds? Or is there something I'm missing
So from what I gather browns are just the middle ground between blues and reds? Or is there something I'm missing
Yes, there's descriptions in the original post explaining, browns have a tactile bump with less noise than blues, reds are less noise without the bump.
Actually it seems it'll be cheaper to buy a Filco tenkeyless for £114, and then buy custom keycaps for it in the future.
because if my math is right, WASD would come to about £150.
It shouldn't be £150. according to my maths it comes to about £120.

I don't think they include VAT in the price.
82 + 20% = 98.4 + £33 postage = 131.4
and then if I'm right, David Tennant said another £20 for customs fees, I may have it wrong, however.
Custom fees take into account just the product including VAT I believe, so just under £20.
So if it takes into account VAT then it should only come to about £130. Unless you're paying that as well as the VAT.

You pay both, VAT for where the item is bought then customs (VAT) into the UK.
Some people (mostly from Asian countries) will mark it as a low cost gift to avoid you paying customs when asked, but it's illegal in America therefore most won't, especially companies.
Also just got the Filco Majestouch 2 blue I won in the geekhack competition, build quality is quite a bit better than the happy hacking keyboard, although the key switches (blue cherries) aren't as premium feeling, great looking keyboard though.

Really stupid question, is there a difference in the quality of a switch? Can the Cherry MX blue from one keyboard be better than the Cherry MX Blue from a cheaper keyboard? or do they all come from the same place..
Just wondering

Apparently some of Razer's blue switches can differentiate in pressure therefore feel different in quality, and I believe Cherry (the company that make the switches and keyboards) once said that they keep the best quality cherry switches for themself, but I doubt this is the case.
But no not really, cherry switches all feel the same as they're made by the same company and sold in massive bulk, the main difference between keyboards is build quality on the board itself, layout, keycaps and keycap printing (PBT/ABS and the shitty alternatives) and misc features such as back lighting and detachable cable.
If you bought a black widow then later on bought an expensive Filco or Ducky or something the typing experience will be the same, you're just paying for build quality and such.

Nope. All the switches are made by Cherry so there is no variation in quality from board makers.
Took my Black Widow back out of storage, been using it all day while Mums out at work.
This keyboard is my one true love.
Buy a Filco and use it to bludgeon your mother until she sees reason.
Don't worry the board will be fine.

What are these things made off? This tenkeyless majestouch weighs about 15lbs.
Was thinking of buying a WASD Keyboard, and got this:

and it turns out postage is £33, so that makes it £115, quite expensive, is it worth it?
That looks sexy, it reminds me of the keyboards in Portal too.
A good friend of mine just stopped by and gave me some new Key caps.

Hey guys. A retailer near where I live called CanadaComputers has the Cooler Master Quickfire Rapid on sale for $55. Is it a good mechanical for the money at that price?
yes dear god yes
Fucking amazing price.
Awesome or heresy to backlight a model M with some EL-wire?
Thinking of making it blue, since IBM.
Extreme heresy imo.
I can get a used SteelSeries 6Gv2 for around 43 euros, maybe even less, we'll see how the seller will agree. Worth it or not?
At the moment I've got an old G11 :D

Even the simple thought of doing so should be punishable by burning.
Been using this Filco for a day now, I like it a lot.
Just got home with my Quickfire Rapid. Totally worth the $55. This thing is so much better to type on than my G15 V2 was. My only gripe is the lack of a numpad but I knew about that when I bought it, and I can always get a separate one.

Rubber domes are god awful compared to mech's, arent they
My Meka G1 broke with a year and a half of warranty left. Don't buy one.
Too gimmicky and for all the promises they gave it didn't last long at all.
[editline]20th April 2012[/editline]
Think I'll get a Filco next.
