Man the Das Model S is $90 CAD this weekend. Wish I wasn't broke. I love my Quickfire Rapid but I do miss having a numpad sometimes.
Just for reference. I did a video about how the Orings sound. It's subtle when listening, but it's much quieter to my ears when typing. It feels much more muffled. Most of the sound is from it coming back up and hitting full height. [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXu3ZILesOE[/hd]
Welp, my Eclipse 2 spacebar somehow broke (not from nerd rage) and I want one of these mechanical keyboards. I came down to 2, the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth and the Corsair K90. I want the Stealth over the regular model due to the non-glossy finish but the K90 looks great. So question is, is the K90 better than the Ultimate Stealth?
They're both pretty bad. The K90 isn't full mech and the BW has 3KRO.
Put it through an alcohol bath then let it sit for a few days.
Looks like I'm going to do this I'm not forking out for a new mechanical gaming keyboard so I'll try and revive this one, I'm currently using a microsoft media keyboard :suicide: [editline]4th August 2012[/editline] The alchahol bath part may be difficult, any alternatives?

The O-ring mod on the red switches doesn't really make a lot of difference to me. I guess that's because I use blues at the moment and they're fucking loud. Good video though.
Unfortunately it doesn't sound much big of a difference on video, but trust me they are whisper in comparison infront of me. I feel bad because it's a great difference when typing. I would highly recommend it, though the video doesn't show it unfortunately.

If I wasn't getting a Filco, I'd probably either get the K90 or the CMstorm QF rapid.
Blasted the casing of my model M through the dishwasher It was a bit too warm though, and the sides warped a bit, and I blasted the label off the bottom.. Still it's bent back into shape and it's pearly white like the day it was made I'm still having issues with the hardware, I located it was here The contacts on the circuit board are supposed to make contact with the little strips, but the are very poor at connecting and the circuit board needs to be slammed down flat onto it for it to type properly. Any tips? [editline]5th August 2012[/editline] Glued the circuit board down because I don't even care, the keyboard was dropped upon delivery so some of the stuff is a bit broken anyway, but It 's been revived for another day.
Oh my gooodd typing on this thing is amazing, I didn't remember it being this fast or this orgasmic but I find myself writing extra sentences and extended words just so I get to hear more springs clicking

I just received my unicomp keyboard i ordered from usa! I'm very pleased with what i got. I used a rubberdome model m before this, and i can say the improvement is huge! I'm actually alot faster and more accurate when typing on this keyboard. It took me a while to get it though. This is a keyboard i'd recommend to anyone!
well, see those holes? you're supposed to screw it down somehow.
those "holes" are where the circuit board clips in, little plastic nubs either side of the metal strip underneath hold it in place and it's supposed to connect with the strip but its just got a very weak connection so I flattened it down and stuck it in place and it works There are no screws missing, anybody else with an original model M can confirm?

Most models don't have screws holding down the circuit board.
Yeah it depends on the model and label. Most models don't have screws holding down the circuit board.
Yeah it was just a case of the contacts being worn out Either way, my ghetto solution works and has revived another model M that would otherwise be deemed scrap
Picked up my Mk-50 with brown switches. It's taking me a bit to get used to it and not bottom out every key, but it feels much better than rubberdomes.
Seasons greetings keyboard friends. I have a bit of a dilemma. In roughly 1 month I am moving out to go to uni, and I would very much like to purchase a mechanical keyboard before I go. I spend a lot of time programming, and have decided I would like a MX blue or brown keyboard. My problem is that despite liking the thought of having a nice clicky keyboard, I don't want to piss off my new found cronies with my loud typing. I figure if I did that, I'm probably going to end up with roughly 0 friends. At present, I don't live anywhere near any stores that would sell mechanical keyboards, so I cannot really go out and try them first hand. So, are MX blue switches loud enough to piss of people in the rooms next to me? (I'll be living in halls). Does facepunch instead recommend I get brown? Thanks tldr; will mx blue switches piss off people in rooms next to me, should I instead get brown or are blue really not that loud
Who cares about mildly annoying people when you get an objectively better typing experience, really?
Who cares about mildly annoying people when you get an objectively better typing experience, really?
Well I suppose that depends on whether the MX blue offers an "objectively better typing experience" than the MX brown. If it doesn't, then I suppose you could say that the blues aren't worth annoying people for. Since I cannot try either prior to purchase, this is why I am here.

Though they will still have some noise feedback, but it will not anywhere near the amount MX Blues have but you will still have a great typing experience.

Is there anything I can do to get more used to a mechanical keyboard other than just typing on it. Also I was thinking of getting o-rings on it, because I usually bottom out when playing games, where could I get some fairly cheap ones?

Is there much difference between the different types? Is it worth to spend the 4 extra dollars?
Is there much difference between the different types? Is it worth to spend the 4 extra dollars?
I wouldn't know, I haven't bought any yet. Although, they do have this video which may help you.
I got the most expensive ones. If I had the others I'd make some comparisons.
wow these mechanical key caps sure are easy to take off, i just couldn't stop [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/10880103/pics/2012-08-14%2012.11.02.jpg[/t] oh and i'm typing this with the keyboard in that pic with all the key caps still taken off. this keyboard is a lot quieter now for having blues.
You missed a few. :v:
Usually those keys have metal brackets behind them to compensate for their larger size and are tricky to remove and even harder to get back on.
Usually those keys have metal brackets behind them to compensate for the larger key cap and are tricky to remove and even harder to get back on.
That contradicts your original post :v: Did you just pull the keys off or use a tool? I really need to take mine off and clean the keyboard AND they keys.
