Rosewill RK-9000 > Balckwidow
Do you recommend I go with the rk-9000 or are there any better ones out there?

If you are looking for a Fullsize Keyboard with a good warranty it's a good choice. Plus it is on sale right now.
Many better than the rosewill, Leopold keyboards, Cooler master quickfire series.
Many better than the rosewill, Leopold keyboards, Cooler master quickfire series.
I would usually say go for the Leopold but the Rosewill is at a price point that can't be beat right now.
[editline]August 26th 2012[/editline]
And as for the Fullsize quickfire, I think it looks like trash. But the 10-keyless model is beautiful.
I have the quickfire pro and its actually not that bad in person, I personally wish the backlighting was customizeable per key though but its nice.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Thanks for the help! I'll be buying it soon!
Why would you get the Rosewill over a Filco or Leopold?
currently Canada Computers has this on on sale for $104.

YES!
My model M was playing up again, so now I have fixed it, for GOOD
I drilled a hole through the metal backplate underneath the hole in the circuit board and took a short screw and secured it down through the holes
It works flawlessly now. cleaned the casing in the dishwasher and now, I have an IBM model M from 1995 (it's about as old as me)
Fuck yeah, the model M is part of my new PC build, feels good to be gaming on a piece of history IMO

After reading a couple of the reviews, a lot of people are saying the usb connector died quick. Are there any other keyboards you recommend? Or should I just go with it?

A Filco if you can afford it. If you can't then a Leopold is a solid choice too.
Does anybody know where I could get some custom coloured keycaps in the UK?
If I could get say, red WASD keys and a spacebar or something to just bring the model M forward a bit it would be awesome
plus, I wouldn't be "disgracing it" because keycaps are interchangeable

iirc Unicomp make keys for Model M's but that's it. There isn't really a demand for custom keys for Model M's.
[editline]27th August 2012[/editline]
Unicomp does do custom caps. Haven't looked through the whole range yet but they do WASD clusters ect here.

I can't see why there is no demand, a lot of people have one, and the keycaps are so easy to remove and replace
Oooooo coloured WASD keys...
[editline]27th August 2012[/editline]
I don't know if they ship to the UK, and if they did it might be incredibly expensive

Shipping should be fine on something so small.
[editline]27th August 2012[/editline]
And the reason there is no demand is because Cherry MX based boards are a lot more popular (Filco, Ducky, WASD, Leopold ect.)

Yeah, I guess, all the modern mechanical keyboards today use cherrys or similar no buckling springs anymore
I plan on using this model M till the day I/it dies
Why would you get the Rosewill over a Filco or Leopold?
Like I stated earlier I would have recommended a Leopold but the Rosewill was at a good price point.
[editline]August 27th 2012[/editline]
And Filcos are by far the greatest Cherry MX Boards in my opinion but they are just a tad out of his budget.

Do you have any recommendations from filco and leopold? My budget is $80 or under, I MIGHT be able to stretch it to $100 but I'm not sure.

CM Storm Quickfire (it's Tenkeyless though)
Quickfire rapid* Just save up $20 and then get the better board.
Got the Razer Black Widow and I love the sound of this baby

Which out of those? Probably the blue right?
And right now I'm debating whether or not I want a numpad, because I do use it in games but I don't think it's a need. Unless they make versions with a numpad?

Return it while you still can and get a better board. The BW is just icky with it's 3KRO.

It's not got a numpad because it's Tenkeyless. That is also the reason that it's cheap. I think that they make a fullsize version too, though it costs more.
As for the switches, it depends on what you will be doing with it as well as preference. Reds are soft and linear as well as being considered the best gaming switch; Blacks are hard and linear and are considered to be gaming switches too, but not as good as reds in games that aren't button mashers; Browns are non-clicky (like Blacks and Reds) and tactile (they have a "bump" in the switch travel when it activates, kinda hard to describe) and are considered to be a middle ground between gaming and typing; Blues are clicky and tactile and are considered the best typing switch because of the clickiness (they also reset higher than the other switches because of how they work so they're kinda worse for button mashers).

I also think that is the longest thing that I have posted on FP ever.
Quickfire pro is fullsize and is $100 and you should get a leopold instead, unless you want media keys and partial backlighting.
Quickfire pro is fullsize and is $100 and you should get a leopold instead, unless you want media keys and partial backlighting.
The price range of $100 has many great options, its just about preference at this point.
I didn't think it was possible to become attached to computer hardware but I'm in love with my freshly revived IBM model M
People on skype ALREADY hate me hehe

What do you recommend from leopold? Media keys and partial backlighting don't really matter to me as long as there is a way to disable the media keys. Why is a leopold better than the quickfire?

I'm completely new to mechanical keyboards, as this is my first time looking into getting one, so I don't really have a preference of which brand I want, I just need to know what would do me good since I mainly game.
CoolerMaster Quickfire Pro is currently on sale so I'm leaning towards that, would it suit me fine?
Actually, I just noticed the one at canadacomputers is cherry brown, and I'm probably better off with cherry red for gaming so would this do?

Like I said before it all comes down to preference at this point. So take a look at the keyboards stated above and read reviews ect. and base your choice of what you have read and seen.
Like do you like the simple look of the Leopold or the kind of "gamer" look of the Quickfire?
Remember to read reviews
