Well, my dad has been using his Model M for about 24, and he has a PC that's shitloads nicer and better than mine along with crazy good audio equipment, and it still feels better than a membrane, so I dunno, I might.

Hey guys, looking to get a new mechanical keyboard to replace my current Aldi trash.
After doing a bit of research I'm thinking I'll probably get the [url=http://www.daskeyboard.com/model-s-ultimate-silent/]Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate Silent Keyboard[/url]. It's fucking expensive though, $135 (USD I guess) from their main site and an Australian retailer is selling it for $156.20AUD including freight anywhere in the country.
I guess you all have more experience with this though so I'll wait for your input, but I just want a general purpose keyboard. I'll probably be doing some gaming, but also a fair amount of typing with it. I don't want heaps of noise. From these points I picked the Cherry MX Browns, and from there the Das.
Any comments?
The Das is one of the best mechanical keyboard brands out there iirc, and with mechanical keyboards it's a very cost-to-quality relationship.
That thing'll probably last you years if you give it the care it deserves. I'd say go for it if you can spend the dosh.
I could never use a blank key keyboard, though :v: not that good of a typist.

it's crazy, i don't even use the notches but i've been typing for so long (i've NEVER used the method that is taught in school) i can tell every single key without even looking, feel when i make a mistake, and type at 120 wpm
i take in account key size (not all the time) and that's pretty much it, it's sunk into my head

If you have someone you can trust in you definitely should do the research and see if it's a big difference in price.

My friend has this, the MX blacks have shit actuation force and the keys make a huge clack sound because he pushes them down really fast. It's also really clunky and difficult to type on.
In addition, it's a massive fucking pain when you're trying to sleep in the same room as the person using it.

Well the sound is because hes bottoming out the keys hard (you can buy dampeners), once you get used to typing on it you learn not to slam the keys so hard. But Cherry Blacks are definitely a huge jump if that's your first mechanical, I learned the hard way when I bought my first mechanical and it had black keys. Then I got reds and fell in love.

Is there any specific term I should try searching for on eBay? I find myself bottoming out keys frequently (Probably because I get used to my laptop's keyboard).
