I gotta agree with the Filco comments. You could take that keyboard and beat the shit out of someone, only to sit back down and type the police report on it. It packs some weight.
Filco's are also fairly easy to disassemble assuming you have a object you can fit in the case to pop the clips with, so they're normally fixable should you somehow manage to break one.
Anyone know where I can get the black Majestouch NINJA Tenkeyless at a reasonable price? Doesn't make sense that most places are selling them at the same price as the non-tenkeyless yet it's less keyboard. Is this normal? Probably going to grab a ducky shine2 tenkeyless for $130 if I can't find a filco tenkeyless in same price range.
A bit of a weird request:
Anyone know of a type of keypad which can be programmable for use as a macro/extra key -- akin to those gimmicky gaming keyboards out there? I would love to have a set of dedicated keys just for use on the side for various programs and games.
I know there are programs out there to rebind existing keyboard keys, but I would like to have extra keys on the side for dedicated use.
Edit:
The only thing I could really find was something like this: http://www.fentek-ind.com/12key_programmable.htm#kp12xkjogu
but the prices are absurd...

Would buying a USB numpad and rebinding the keys work? or would it just turn your other numpad into macro keys

Tenkeyless boards are less popular, so they cost more.
I put together a home theater slash gaming center type thing in my living room and want a wireless keyboard and I figured I'd just say fuck it and up that shit to mechanical.
Basically I want a wireless keyboard with cherry browns but I'm also a cheap bastard. What's a good bang for the buck option?

Do what you like, but are you sure? Mechanical keyboards tend to be heavy and unwieldy. If it's not stationary, that is. I use mine on the couch for instance, and setup a table for gaming.
I found an old Dell at102w keyboard at work. Going to replace my shitty hp keyboard with it. I hope it still works.

I should be okay. For playing dota and shit, the top of my coffee table rises up and towards me, creating a desk at my couch. For movies I don't expect to use it much anyway

Also I've been wrangling one of those huge Logitech gaming keyboards with the MOTHAFUKKIN G KEYS around the sofa for like two years now so I should be cool

I found like 5 of those in our old storage closet. Poor condition and covered in grime but I might try cleaning these up, I hate these membrane ones compared to my cherry reds at home. Unfortunately our new keyboards are going to be mandatory due to needing to use the smart card slot to login with our IDs :(
Can't you bring in an external USB smart card reader from home?

It's against policy (not that anyone in the office cares) but I also wouldn't know if the drivers are compatible. We use ActivIdentity.
So yeah I got a Model M

Sand it down
No idea, my model M's spacebar is perfectly fine, I've been using it for over a year without any bleeding thumbs V:v:V
[editline]3rd November 2012[/editline]
(Don't really sand down a beautiful model M you monster)
So how do you like it?
It arrives tuesday :)
I wish it was acceptable to spraypaint a model M, because I'd want to make it just solid black (even the keycaps) because on my ultra modern desk it kind of sticks out and looks dated.
[editline]3rd November 2012[/editline]
I made a video of myself going clicky clacky click on my model M so I can try and hear what people hear on skype, and jesus it sounds different with headphones muffling it

What is the obsession with back-lighting? Please somebody tell me.
What is the obsession with back-lighting? Please somebody tell me.
Shit looks cool, that's about it.
I wish I had full backlighting rather than cluster, makes it much easier to game at night, and I don't want to have to turn my light on
Is $170 USD a find price for a keyboard? Like, the keyboard is around $100 but I am fucked on shipping costs (Australia).

I don't want blue switches or a numpad. That's why I'm looking at a Filco keyboard.

I liked mine, btw. Good purchase. We discussed the rest over PMs so I won't reiterate.
How easy is it to clean a Das Pro? As in, under the keys and everything
How easy is it to clean a Das Pro? As in, under the keys and everything
Extremely easy. Cherry MX Keycaps are by far the easiest to remove.
