I have a feeling that I will be using this IBM model M till the day I die Also somebody heard me playing gmod using it via skype, and asked what the hell was making so much noise, so I told them it was my keyboard, they asked for the model so they could see what was making such a weird noise and then proceeded to rip it apart for being "beige" and "old" and not having macro keys Some people eh, He owns a Razer wireless keyboard as well to top it off
They would hate me.
They would hate me.
Blues?
Blues?
Man, not even. I rock a IBM Model M Silver Label, the epitome of original. [editline]December 5th 2012[/editline] Come July I'm going to be living in a house with two people using Model M's one being myself the other being a programmer who rocks a white label. Plus two others with Cherry MX Blue boards. The loudest of Mechanical Keyboards all being used 8+ hours a day.

I am in love with this cherry mx red qpad mk50. I will never go back to the piece of shit I used before. Problem is that I like it so much that I end up typing really long and unnecessary things because it feels so good to type on this baby. Which is a shame really since it is 1am and I really need to study tomorrow for my exams that are starting next week so I can go home to my parents over the holidays without having to worry about me failing the exams so that I have to redo everything later on which clearly isn't advantageous since other courses will start and then I will have to try and catch up while studying new things which results in me falling behind even more man it feels good to type I need help.
So I'm probably going to buy the Corsair Vengeance K60. Anyone in here owned it and had good experiences with it? It seems like just what I want, and at a decent price.

The only draw back is its not fully mechanical. [editline]December 5th 2012[/editline] And if you want to roll with the "gamer" style get this. Or the tenkeyless version.

It feels really solid and heavy and the media keys + the USB port is very nice to have. My main problem with it is that not all keys are mechanical. The F-row and the Insert, Delete, PrntScreen etc-group of keys are rubber domes. Not bad ones, but they feel sort of sub-par compared to the lovely red switches. One has to consider though that you don't use those keys the same way as the alphanumerics, nor as frequently.
Thanks for the suggestions. Probably going to go for the Quickfire Pro instead.
Updated the OP with Cherry MX Sound Dampening options. They can be seen here.
Need some recommendations if possible. I need a few strict requirements met: Reasonable size. I need a 10-key, but it's can't sit on my desk tray like a Hummer taking up every inch of width. And not a massive amount of "bezel." NO MACRO KEYS. Non-edgy design. I fucking hate gaming keyboards for this. It needs to match my case: Easy on the eye, and SUBTLE. Backlit keys. Something pleasant, like reds or soft blues. Brightness-adjustable. Reasonable noise, not excessively loud. Comfortable typing while still providing some "click" feedback. If what I've read is to be believed, Cherry MX Browns may be what I'm looking for. Media keys and a Windows key. They both have their uses, and I also don't like the opposite extreme philosophy of minimalist keyboards. Those two features are worth a tiny amount of extra space on the layout. I also understand that a mechanical keyboard is an investment, so price is not an issue.

The CM storm trigger has adjustable backlighting but it's got 5 macro keys...
The CM storm trigger has adjustable backlighting but it's got 5 macro keys...
This with Browns is your best bet. Adjustable backlighting is hard to come by and this is a quality keyboard with that feature.
Alright, forget adjustable backlighting, I just need backlighting. What addresses my need for simple media keys?
A Ducky DK9008 Shine. (make sure its a 9008 not a 9000, the 9000 lacks media keys).
Only partial backlighting on that one. :/
Sooooo Your thoughts on the G710+ from Logitech? Worth it?
Overpriced, gimmicky.
I was just about to order a Das Keyboard but then I noticed a bunch of people are saying it sucks ass (poor quality control, sticky keys, etc.) because it got a new manufacturer. http://www.amazon.com/Das-Keyboard-Professional-Mechanical-DASK3MKPROCLI/dp/B008PFABI8/ref=dp_ob_title_ce I'll be getting the MX Brown version by the way. Is it alright to order or should I avoid it?
You're right there; I just looked at the people who made those reviews and they're the only ones who rated it low out of the hundred other people.
Just got a vengeance K90! It's very cool, but it will take some getting used to typing on it, and it requires 2 USB ports which is kind of annoying.
Anyone know where I can order a Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless UK layout with Cherry Blues in the UK? Or can anyone recommend me another matte black, tenkeyless, UK layout cherry blue keyboard?
Just got a vengeance K90! The other one relays the on-keyboard USB port.
Waiting for my Filco Majestouch 2 MX Browns to come in the mail within the next few hours. This is my first purchase of anything online now that I'm old enough to get a credit card. Can't wait to type on something other than an outdated rubber dome keyboard. Haven't been this excited since I was 6 or so waking up to open up Christmas presents.
I may be wrong, but I suspect you only need one to keep the keyboard itself working. The other one relays the on-keyboard USB port.
This It would be worse if you had just 1 port for both keyboard and hub and you then went and plugged your mouse into the hub. If you are moving your mouse like crazy continually and it has a high USB polling rate, I can guarantee from experience about 1 key in 500 will be skipped or otherwise glitch out (you really notice these things in games like osu) if mouse and keyboard are plugged into the same usb port
