Mechanical keyboards last years man. No matter what switch type.
[sp]Somewhat intoxicated, but no they really do last years[/sp]

If you treat it well then it could last more than 10 years, seriously.
Does anyone know how long it takes for Das Keyboard to finally wear out? Mine is almost reaching a year and I haven't seen any sign of quality loss yet.
Probably like 10 years minimum, depending on how much you type. Remember, cherry switches are guaranteed for like 50 million presses minimum.
I got the Quickfire TK a few days ago. It's my very first mechanical keyboard. I love it!

I was wondering because I play a lot of starcraft.. like a lot, and I'm not to sure if you guys know much about APM(actions per minute) but I do a lot of key presses each game. So I wasn't sure if that would wear out the keyboard quicker.

Granted I am not as fast as some of the Koreans in the video, but you get the idea.

Hell, I'm constantly holding down my WSAD keys so I think my keyboard would wear out faster. I mean, it may wear out in 5 years if this is all you do but a rubber dome would probably wear out even faster. My rubber dome started getting really bad last year and I had it for 3 years.

what do you even mean by "wear out"
you really think applying ~70 grams of force at most over the course of a few years is going to destroy the switch mechanism?
keyfeel might be altered slightly after REALLY fucking heavy use but it's still gonna last you a lifetime

Eh, probably won't wear out that fast. But this keyboard I have probably won't even be with me that long to find out. I really want to get a storm trigger or a ducky shine.
I'm considering getting a mechanical keyboard with my Christmas money. I want to spend $50-$75 USD with some tolerance to go over or under if need be. I prefer silent yet tactile types but I can live with the noise or without feedback, and desk real estate is at a premium so cutting out the numpad is perfectly acceptable if not preferred (I have a separate USB numpad I can put in a more advantageous position as well.) If I have to have a numpad, I physically can not go over 9" wide (roughly 23 cm.)
In other words;
$50-$75 USD price range, give or take.
Can not be physically larger than 9" or 23cm.
OPTIONAL: No numpad preferred.
OPTIONAL: Silent keys preferred.
OPTIONAL: Tactile feedback preferred.
I'm considering the Razer Blackwidow Tournament Edition - Essential Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Any suggestions?

Got the Blackwidow myself (2013 Ultimate though) and i frikken love it. No regrets taken compared to the Steelseries V6 which i also had.
2 for the Cooler Master, 1 for the Razor.
The Cooler Master is cheaper, fulfills my optional preferences perfectly, looks nicer in my opinion, and has N-Key rollover in PS2 mode so I can free up a USB slot. I'm leaning towards that one myself.
Definitely the CM.
Oh, and I just realized I didn't mean 9 inches (23 cm,) I meant 19 inches (48 cm.) Still works.

Check my work, but maybe it could go in the OP.

While this is true, it's easier to fix spills of sticky things (like fucking pot noodles, fuck my life) when it comes to rubber dome keyboards as it's realistic to wash out the entire keyboard, rubber sheet included
Mechanicals need you to jimmy a suitable type of oil/grease into the switch, and it only provides a short term fix

This is why you shouldn't eat next you your keyboard. I know we are all guilty of it.
Not me all that I would eat next to my keyboard is some chocolate even then I wouldn't eat that much of it next to my keyboard.
Push keyboard forward, so that it is not under the mouth region
Clean crumbs off desk when finished eating
Works for me

Or move to the other side of the desk or just not eat over your desk at all.

Man Red Baron oven pizzas are the fucking tits.
[editline]January 1st 2012[/editline]
Completely off-topic and shit it's 2013.
Digiornos is where it's at.
Have a great clackity clack this year everyone.
Sorry there is a pizza place near by that is tits, I live in North Carolina Weaverville that is called blue mountain pizza that out does all your pizzas'. So suck it losers.
If we're on about pizzas, Wegman's frozen pizzas are the shit. Takes about a slice or two to get used to the fairly unique taste, but after that, they're unbeatable.
I wish I could justify buying a new keyboard, but I feel like I've developed a relationship with this model M
I just hate how it sounds when I'm wearing my headset, but when I wear a pair of isolating headphones it sounds and feels AMAZING
hnng is it bad I put on my headphones, not even plugged in just to type this
and now I'm prolonging it
mmmmm buckling springs
