I really really really can't decide on a keyboard. I DO really want an x6 but people suggest an x4 because the other ghosts.. but the Cyborg v5 looks nice! These aren't mechanical keyboards I don't think but I can't decideeee :(
Well, think of it this way: Keyboards come with lots of functions nowadays, but what part of the keyboard is the one you use the most, and should therefor seek to retain in good quality? The keys, obviously. So logically you should spend the most money on good switches, I.E you should get a mechanical keyboard. Keyboards may have all the bells and whistles but if they're rubber-domed you're gonna wear it down faster and you'll be forced to get a new one regardless. Whereas with mechanical switches you'll be reminded of your keyboard's longevity and awesomeness with every single keystroke. [editline]23rd February 2012[/editline] Huh, 77 WPM here. During testing I realized that I mostly type without glancing at the keys, but I felt that when it came to my right hand I almost solely used the index finger. That's a little jarring, gonna be hard to change.
Only problem is they make louder noises than usual with clicking, right? And if ones have a backlit feature, they'll be so expensive.
If you don't plan on getting a mechanical keyboard then this thread probably isn't for you, and choosing between rubber domes, just go with what looks the best to you and has the features you need (media keys etc), there's not much else to it. And yes, of-course they're louder than rubber domes but I'd consider that a benefit unless you're using it in a busy environment, and backlit mechanical keyboards are few and far between and they're all fairly expensive, it's generally not very useful other than aesthetics, most who use mechanicals are touch typists.
Yeah. I just moved from a G19 to a Black Widow.. Honestly dont miss the Back lighting at all.. it was cool.. but as you said Mr. Timelord.. you don't need it if you can touch type
Leopold FC500R (red switches), with red esc key and blue WASD keys. Feels great. Would recommend to anyone who doesn't want to pay for rice/brand.
Still looking at keyboards, now looking at Thermaltake Meka G-Unit KB-MGU006US (Mx-Black). http://www.scan.co.uk/products/tt-esports-meka-g-unit-esport-mechanical-keyboard-with-1000-hz-polling-rate-using-upto-60-macro-keys and the black widow ultimate (maybe standard). Can't really make my mind up about what one to get. Backlighting would be nice but however I play with lights on normally so it may not be that clear. Questions - Does anyone use the above keyboard ( Thermal take ) / know if they are a decent brand, or if im best to still get a razor keyboard. The steelseris and Logitech keyboards arn't option because they take up to much desk space ( lame excuse I know :/ ) Thanks

If you MUST go with a ricer brand then you'll be better off getting a Steelseries or that TT board.
Hey guys. My current membrane keyboard is starting to become pretty loose, especially around the spacebar, and after reading this thread I'm convinced I want to replace it with a mechanical keyboard. There's not a huge variety where I live but I did manage find a store that sells Steelseries 6GV2 keyboards for a decent price. I don't care much about rice. Question time: Would you recommend the 6GV2? Is it hard to jump from a membrane keyboard to a black cherry keyboard?
Is ordering online out of the question?
Is ordering online out of the question?
Why would it be? In fact, I suspect it's the only option for most. I've never seen a mechanical keyboard in any retail stores.
Is ordering online out of the question?
International shipping fees and taxes are ridiculous here, so yes. [editline]Edited:[/editline] I found a Tt Meka and a Corsair K60 too. The K60 is a bit on the expensive side, and the Meka doesn't have the Start Menu button which is kind of a turnoff. Still, I'd be willing to get used to using ctrl+esc instead for the sake of a good keyboard. What do?
Why would it be? In fact, I suspect it's the only option for most. I've never seen a mechanical keyboard in any retail stores.
I bought a Black Widow Ulti at Best Buy yesterday.
So I'm considering the BlackWidow because of its pricepoint (and the 'a' key on my g15 is starting to crap out on me). My only concern is the horrendous stories of Razer's QC. Are there better options for around the same price? I'm seriously about to go out and buy one. Other ones I've looked at are the steelseries 6gv2 and 7g. I'm liking the 7g because of the wristrests but no nearby store carries either of them.
Why would it be? In fact, I suspect it's the only option for most. Only Mech keyboards I see in retail are Blackwidows. (Hence I'm on one right now, as no one ships to Austrailia)
I've seen alot of 6Gv2s and 7Gs in retail.
Yup I bought the BlackWidow. It's pretty fucking loud. [editline]24th February 2012[/editline] But oh my god is it amazing to type on.
I dont think mine is >that< loud.. but its the first and only mechanical I've seen.. Anyone else think their loud? [editline]24th February 2012[/editline] Its certainly more than twice as loud as my g19 lol
You don't know loud until you try out a Model M.
You don't know loud until you try out a Model M.
You don't know loud until you tried a Model F. [t]http://www.clickykeyboard.com/2006/jun142006/jun142006-001.jpg[/t]
Dammit why do you always have to one-up me you massive keyboard nerd
Yeah there was a story that a person brought in a super loud keyboard and the coworkers actually told the person to stop using at the work place, though that was one of the loudest keyboards though. So If you are not annoyed by your keyboard from 5 feet then you have a quiet keyboard.
I have blues and they aren't loud at all. They're about the same volume as a G15, but they sound nicer.
Only Mech keyboards I see in retail are Blackwidows. (Hence I'm on one right now, as no one ships to Austrailia)
apart from spelling our country incorrectly, you can pick up Das Keyboards online at http://www.auspcmarket.com.au. I ordered mine and it was in my hands 22 hours later, but I could have ordered it that morning and had it in as little as 9 hours. But in terms of retail stores stocking mechanicals - yeah, nah, never seen it.
Got a Corsair Vengeance k60 today. Its pretty awesome.
Got a Corsair Vengeance k60 today. Its pretty awesome.
I really like the look of these Vengeance boards. They look sleek, especially with all that brushed aluminium that reflects the backlighting in a really cool way.
Yeah they seem really well built, if only it was backlit :( The back lighting on the K90 looks amazing
I guess I'm the only one who thinks those boards look horrid.
Only Mech keyboards I see in retail are Blackwidows. (Hence I'm on one right now, as no one ships to Austrailia)
Umart and pccasegear.com are the best sites in Australia. PCCG has excellent prices and ships Australia-wide.
