Shame the new Xbox a/v cable blocks off the HDMI port so that you can't use external non-digital sound with an HDMI cable.
If you decide to get a VGA cable: go with the official Microsoft one. Most of the knockoffs are reported to show signs of ghosting (which makes the gaming experience pretty lame if you ask me). You're better off spending the extra money on an official one that you know will work rather than saving a few bucks just to find out you got a shitty cable. Used official microsoft vga cables go for about $10 on ebay. I got one for $8 and it works perfectly.

Yeah, I've decided to get the official microsoft one too.
The cheap ones have like 1 good review and 20 bad ones.

Try reading before you reply. Then, maybe, you won't come off as an asshole.
I really could care less if I DID come off as an asshole. Besides, I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable right now, using my TV as a 42" LCD for my PC. DVI to HDMI cables can carry signals both ways, so he can buy one cheap online and go HDMI to DVI without any problems. OP must be using an ancient shitty LCD for it not to have HDMI inputs... :raise:
inb4 Pixel Heart gets called an asshole again.
Also, since when are ancient LCD's shitty? I mean, yeah, that's your opinion, and I respect that. But your opinion is retarded.
Oh, and thanks for the link to the Microsoft VGA cable. Ordering it right now. Going from a 13" TV to my newer but still old 17" monitor.
I have my Xbox rigged up to my monitor.
My monitor has HDMI input and a built in speaker on it (that I don't use). For video I got a cheap HDMI to HDMI cable. For audio I used the stock Xbox cable and then I took red and white RCA cables (left and right audio) and got a simple adapter that made it a into a 3.5mm jack that goes into my speakers.
you're going to need to pry off the plastic part of the stock Xbox cable to get both the HDMI and stock cable to fit, it'll be very tight but it works like a charm.

Are you an idiot? I mean seriously, are you? Do you have some sort of mental deficiency? High end monitors just started supporting HDMI not too long ago. I have a higher end Samsung 22" LCD that I got nearly three years ago and it doesn't support HDMI. Go kill yourself.

Agreed. What i do is use the cable that has been stated many times, with a r+w audio to the green speaker thing (I don't know technical terms) so i can use my pc speakers. It works fine. Bear in mind that some monitors don't work with xbox, for whatever reason.
Err, I use a VGA 360 cable, and it does 16:10.

most ancient LCDs, as in pre-2003ish, had really terrible back-lighting and color issues.
however he's still an idiot for saying it's shitty and ancient for lacking HDMI. last i checked, a monitor doesn't need HDMI as the intended use is with a PC, the monitor comes with a DVI cable, and all graphics cards sport DVI, not all sport HDMI. regardless it's not like HDMI can even look any better than DVI as they are in far too many ways the same exact cable, just a different socket.
and i'm not sure how that would make them ancient as HDMI on a monitor hasn't really been common at all until about somewhere in the last 2 years or so.
If you have a DVI screen use a HDMI to DVI cable, then remove the plastic casing on the end of the AVI cable (so it fits with the HDMI at the same time) and use a plug that merges Red and White audio into Green (Comes with VGA cable for 360). DVI is better than VGA because it allows 16:10
VGA allows 16:10 as well, though the ratio here would be 16:9 as not a lot of 360 games do 16:10, even if it'd mean 16:10 letterbox. 16:10, 16:9, doesn't matter, both DVI and VGA do it
but DVI is actually digital and will actually provide a better image, of course some people will disagree with me here but it's their own choice to disagree with facts. i'm not really sure why you're suggesting he removes the plastic casing, do you mean the Multi-AV part that goes into the 360 or the RCA part? because there's no point in unsheathing the RCA connector.
Because with the plastic end there is no room for both the AVI and HDMI cable to be plugged in at the same time. The Xbox will send audio through the AVI cable even though HDMI is plugged in.
AVI Cables?

I like the way you disregard everything the OP has asked in this thread.

um are you talking about on the 360? because if not, no, he does not need to make any modifications.
