You're not as cynical as I am.
Well, as a computer tech myself, I wouldn't think he's saying he agrees to pirate Windows too.
I have to deal with the same issue every time I reinstall a friend's computer - Finding them a valid license of Windows for them to use.
Isn't the genuine check required for updates?
Actually, you still get all the updates.
Yes, pirates can use them for their own goals.
But whatever. It's up to you or whomever to use it.
[editline]07:38PM[/editline]
And it's not like everyone here is a saint. Arguing otherwise would be stupid.
Actually, you still get all the updates.
You only get critical updates.
...No.
I get ALL the updates.
...No.
I get ALL the updates.
Then they changed it.
EDIT: Unless you mean you removed the genuine check and are getting all the updates.
I'm not a thief. I fix, build, and sell computers out of my home. Getting past Windows activation was tricky, but it's necessary. I agree with them, and help them any way I can.
Excellent point.
I have never had to re activate windows when HW swapping. It's also not necessary.

Can you tell me any gossip? Why?: said fix build and sell computers out of his or her home. I don't know whether or not I am past Windows activation was tricky but it is necessary.
I am well respected as an AI. Very much? Who said it is? Oh I get it. I'm glad we agree. You and your them and help them any way you can. Thanks for the compliment. What happened to it? to re activate windows when HW swapping is not necessary?
I was initially going to say that it might have been one of your friends fucking with you, but seeing as it was 1AM, I guess not. That's pretty interesting, I'm curious to see how that happened..
Dunno, seeing as I hate having friends over and I'm the only one who ever uses my computer.
Also, I run nod32 smart security, MSE, and malwarebytes resident, and when I scanned it I did a full disk with each of those (with spybot S&D). Never had it happen since for whatever reason (Nothing detected anything: Except spybot finding tracking cookies)
[editline]11:38PM[/editline]
I suppose they could have also got into my ssh, but I would have noticed (A nice popup in the bottom right corner if anyone tries to connect)
[editline]11:40PM[/editline]
I'd have also noticed it in the logs after I looked at them while it was scanning

Are you actually going to tell me why it's dumb?
I really do want to hear what you have to say.

Why would you rip out a core part of the system just on a whim? It can cause problems. Don't give me that BS that it's fine now, because stuff like this usually get fixed by MS themselves. It's like you ripping out your kidney, exclaiming "I only need one!" and throwing it into a fucking river. It serves no purpose at all what-so-ever. And don't PM me acting like a fucking pompous asshole asking me to explain myself. I'm under no obligation to explain myself. You want to do stupid shit, then have at it.
So WGA is a core part of the system now?
I'm not saying it's a good idea to rip it out from Windows, nor that it's necessary, but if that's the case then MS fucked up quite a bit don't you think?

uhh
:wtc:
1. It's not a core part
2. It hasn't and doesn't cause problems
3. I'm not ripping out anything essential because, you know, there are no problems and everything works 100% fine
4. How am I acting like a pompous asshole? I just sent you the link to this thread so that you would see it
5. I'm simply asking why you thought it was dumb. So automatically you're obligated to answer me for I am your superior. (?)
Jesus christ it's like I took a shit in your cereal or something.
Well I guess in a way it's ripping out something... but that something is useless. And it's not like your key is useless afterward.

Making DRM a core part of software is hardly new.

Not core as it's need to run, core as in it's in their deeply. In the, is what I should have said.

1. Worded wrong.
2. Neither does keeping it in.
3. Keeping it in and, you know, there are no problems and everything works 100% fine.
4. The go on try me, I dare you, passive aggressive attitude.
5. I'm not obligated to do anything but follow the "rules" here at FP.
If it's so useless why bother taking it out? It's stupid and serves no purpose to take it out for no reason.

Problem:

Yeah... I'll just take the easy way out that has no repercussions with just a couple clicks.
Thanks for the RemoveWAT tip, my laptop was whining about not being genuine, but now it's merrily updating :D While I was at it checked the src of removewat and all it does is remove/replace/move/reset perms on a bunch of files, not rocket science.
I don't even know why I'm arguing with you or vice versa.
Either way, if you don't like the fix, the button is there to bring it back to non-genuine status.
Report it to MS. They can't fix an issue if you just decide to go about alternative measures.
And RemoveWAT is there as an option. If you don't want it, fine.
I just wanted to know why you thought it was dumb.

I love RemoveWAT. Panda's just being Panda.
