use 7 and then hack the crap out of it so you don't have all those useless functions running.
it took me about 2 days to completely clear the register from all the standard Microsoft crap.(library, default shit, sidebar, gadgets, and so on).

You don't have to use the libraries, default shit it too vague, you don't need to go through the registry to remove the sidebar.
