There wouldn't happen to be a database for, uh, fictional login screens? I need something for my start screen, but I can't think of anything for the moment

You mean designing one? I usually look towards Dribbble for ideas when I'm doing anything design related.

Are you talking about a template login screen to design around in Photoshop, or a login screen ripped out of a movie?

I honestly doubt you're consistently playing Left 4 Dead 1, Portal 1, and Half-Life 2 Lost Coast that often that you have them all installed and with desktop icons. v:v:v

and even if you did play them all consistently you'd be able to access them quickly from the taskbar :v:

Why do you have like a Vista era messaging widget on your desktop
Why do you have like a Vista era messaging widget on your desktop
because it owns
I've always preferred calling up programs with launchers and my taskbar, launchy is pretty good for that. Lets you start things even quicker than having it on the desktop and keeps things clean and pretty.
I just start my shit with terminal/keyboard shortcuts. Super+G for chrome, Super+C for calc, Super+T for text editor, etc. I don't think I've seen my desktop in months.
also serious reply: the reason I use Trillian is because it's the only non-Messenger alternative to Facebook Messenger. I thought they shuttered XMPP services years ago so I have no idea how they connect, but I vastly prefer it to even the desktop Messenger client. and the Vista-era theme is just for fun, I had a Windows Longhorn theme on my PC and it looked really neat in conjunction with it
Trillian just basically routes all the facebook messages through their servers. They're a go-between.

I don't think it's the only alternative, afaik there's purple-facebook for pidgin.

Surface Pro 3.
Finally got around to upgrading to Windows 10 after a clean wipe. I hadn't updated my OS since 2007 and it was really starting to show its age (lots of random slowdowns and hiccups/ bugs after years of neglecting cleaning duties). Feels nice to have a fast speedy computer again now that I've started over with a clean slate.

I was using the same wallpaper since 2009 too until I upgraded today. :v:

see that's less worrying because wallpapers don't need to be updated to include security fixes every so often

i think he means he hasn't used a new OS since vista maybe? and not that he hasn't run any updates on the machine
at least i'm really hoping so. please don't tell me you just installed OEM vista or XP and have been using that all this time without running a single update
Just use an OS until it's so old that nobody makes or distributes viruses for it any more

as soon as i get a few replacement RAM chips and a new IDE hard drive for my frankencomputer i'm gonna see how usable 98SE is in modern times. the fine folk over at MSFN keep churning out usability patches for the 9x series so I'm interested in getting a hands on look
