Yes, and I'm running windows 788 on my dual Octa-Core AMD Chromatron IV X8 4500T @ 6 GHz per core and emulating that old and shitty Arch Linux with the extremely outdated 3.8.4 kernel. Jesus christ, it does not even support the latest GeForce K7 drivers.

Ask yourself how many programs you use regularly?
Pin those to the Taskbar (probably about 4-8?).
Use the Start menu for anything you don't use regularly.
Steam games can be accessed via right-click on steam icon in system tray.

I just throw everything into the start menu if it will ruin my symmetry on my taskbar.

Some people find alternative launch methods to be more useful too.
For example, I use Launchy.
I can understand people having a few shortcuts though.

Personally I use Fences so I can have the shortcuts on my desktop, then double click to hide them when I'm not using them.
It's really nice, because then my desktop doesn't have to stay ugly to have the function.
