Preference. I alternate between the top and bottom every few weeks depending upon which seems more convenient.

I prefer it at the top. Think about it - most programs have all the buttons at the top (e.g. tabs on browser, open/close, etc) and so why not just keep a taskbar up there too?
Although I mainly use keyboard shortcuts it's less far to move the mouse (I think).
But it's all preference!
