yeah because you're actually a programmer and edit the code

Lol.
IMAP + GMail = I might use.
Or I could get a pair of brains and use Thunderbird.
There's no date on Wave 4 yet but with all the recent leaked screens (Messenger is god awful by the way) I would assume it's near.
I want to switch from Messenger, but I like the shiny pretty graphics :saddowns:

implying the only benefactors of open source are programmers
I want to switch from Messenger, but I like the shiny pretty graphics :saddowns:
The only think that keeps me from switching is file transfer speeds are awful on other programs.

Messenger is shit. I have two friends that still cling to that thing so I can't ditch it, but I hate myself every time I log in.

Not really. The point is, when you have two equal products, but one of them is open source, it's nice to encourage the open source solution driven by a community rather than some product with a company known for vendor-lock.

What I meant was the main Messenger client itself
Pidgin looks bland, Trillian is overloaded with heavily saturated gradients and shinyness and uses such graphics way too much, etc

Freakin' awesome.

Someone really needs to make a Windows comparative. Pidgin is dull as hell.

Less than WLM.
And you can use themes. If you can't find any Astra themes that are minimal enough, you can still use Trillian 3 themes.
Conversation View
Thunderbird needs this feature. Emal inboxes look horribly cluttered without it.

Messenger 2009 doesn't run on Macs, were you expecting me to be running it in Fusion or Parallels?

Adium is really awful. It's by far the best IM on Mac, but that's not saying much.
Leaked.
Wee!!! Windows Live Mail is easily the best app of the Windows Live bundle. This is great news.
And is dat sum ribbon I see? :D
Though it looks a little bloated, the current WLM is doing fine with absolutely minimal drop downs. Ribbon is good, but in-UI functionality is better.

Not too crazy about the new Live Messenger. However the other apps in the Live bunch have certainly received a great update. Especially Live Mail.
It's too hard for me to setup Outlook and Thunderbird to get my yahoo mail, so i jut go to the webpage. I've always used web-based mail. Since I opened my e-mail account back in 1997. It's still the account I use today.
Web apps are sloooooooowwwwww.
Did I mention they do not run well or fast?

I've never understood why people do that.
Web:
Open browser.
Navigate.
Desktop:
Open application.
(And no losing that long email you typed out to a timeout either.)

Known for joining networks with AIM and rumored jabber support you mean?
Is there any time frame on when this will release?
Is there any time frame on when this will release?
June 3, 2010 – “Complete Public Disclosure” (and compile date for the public beta, as per MuyWindows).
June 7, 2010 – Public beta will be released.
June 7, 2010 – Windows Live Messenger for iPhone will be released in main languages.
August 25, 2010 – Support for “Additional Languages” will be added to Messenger and iPhone, and public RTW of the final version.
Just something I found.
