That's a common problem among Linksys routers. The stock firmware has a terribly small ARP table/Conntrack table. Basically if you do any heavy internet use like torrenting, the tables overflow and won't allow any new connections to be made (hence why current connections still work.) Custom firmwares like DD-WRT have options to make the tables bigger, but it depends on how much RAM the router has available.
Tell me about it, I have a Christmas light clock hooked up to the router, resetting it once every day.
Been thinking about buying a TP-Link TL-WR1043ND to replace my DD-WRT flashed Linksys WRT54G V1.1 with toasted wireless chip acting as main router and D-link somethingsomething router that's setup as dumb wireless accesspoint
Siemens Speedstream 6520 DSL modem/wired and wireless router.

For an all-in-one package, this thing worked well, but once you get into more powerful tasks, it begins to fail. The QoS support is so bad on this router that they disable it by default and hide the configuration page from the normal interface. If you're short on power outlets and don't mind not having some of the advanced features in newer routers, this thing is simple and does the trick.

Rosewill RNX-GX4
It has the same specs as the WRT54GL, though with a slightly faster CPU. I run DD-WRT on it.

WRT54G V6
Fucking terrible, one of the antennas is fucked up and I disconnected RIGHT in the middle of Company of Heroes games that I'm winning.
I have this:

It's an enterprise class router that we got for free and it's a piece of shit. Port forwarding? Impossible. The software is coded in Java and won't work properly since it was made in like J2SE 1.4 and I'm not installing an old version of Java just to forward ports (which doesn't even work when I do it right according to Cisco.)
Just want to get a WRT54, dd-wrt it and call it quits.
I'm stuck with this vile abomination:

Thomson TG784
In addition to adding about 30-60ms ping to to every online game I play and having a hideously slow, cluttered, frustrating and terribly designed web interface, it's also locked down by my ISP so things like turning off the automated intrusion detection I can't do, I can't bridge it and some other stuff I forget is taken out as well.
The best part though is that if I wanna upgrade from 24mbps to 60mbps (VDSL) I'll be stuck with a thomson TG789 (I think) unless I fork out the necessary $150 (+ some for a decent router) for a zyxel modem that works properly with VDSL.
I have this one

It's the WNR 3500. Don't know the different but damn I love it.

Wireless N anyways drops when the G does not. Restarting will fix the issue for 4 weeks it seems then it starts happening again mainly when downloading. Really annoying cause I'm the only one in my house who supports N.
The next router I'm getting is probably going to be a smallish computer with a random Linux distro.
I've got a feeling this WRT54GL is going to last until I have the resources to do that.
While we're all here, I need help picking out a router.
My current router floods when it tries to get the TF2 Server list, so I need one that won't. It needs to be able to handle maybe 3 or 4 connections at once, range isn't an issue really, and it needs to be <$100.
I am currently using a Cyberoam CR300i; Integrated Router, Firewall and IDS.

Sorry about the photo, the only other photo I have is of it in the rack and you can't really see it there.
As far as home routers go, I'll get some stick for this, but I so far can't fault Apple Airport Extreme, for the average home user they are just perfect; V. V. easy to configure some fairly complex features and they just never stop working.

You probably need to configure it via CLI, enterprise level Cisco products are known for having crap user interfaces. They're not really meant to be configured the same way a home router would.

You will have to use CLI, unless you want to use the ever-ghastly Cisco Network Assistant. Having said that the IOS CLI is very powerful.

I said it was powerful!
D-LINK dir-655, does everything I want to, stable unlike Linksys routers' firmwares.
Can't use DD-WRT though. Not like it matters though.

why would I want to telnet into my router
not worth it IMO

I hate it, the WiFi signal drops about 5m away and it's slowing my download speed down by about 2Mbps.
Pretty user friendly though, the menus are simplified nicely.
I just bit the bullet and bought a WRT54GL on ebay for like $45, free shipping too. It has DD WRT V24 preloaded on it too so that's cool.
Hopefully this will solve the random disconnects that I have, I have no reason not to believe it will.
I'm currently using D-Link DIR-300, haven't had any trouble with it since I bought it.

I was going to buy the RT-N56U what are your all thoughts?
Smallnetbuilder claims it can't run DD-WRT

Not showing up on DD-WRT's database so likely not.
WRT54Gv2 running Tomato, mang.
And since you guys probably forgot what they look like:

If the router's firmware is half-way decent, you don't need DD-WRT or Tomato.

You can add a SD card slot and two USB 1.1 ports with some minimal modding :3
USB 1.1 mod:
http://woodhousellc.com/?tag=usb
It only shows one USB port, but there's another USB port on RH21 and RH22.
could you guys recommend me a router , it needs to have at least a 100mbit wan port as I have fibre optic internet

these aren't shit; you're doing it wrong.
The 1800 series wouldn't be at the forefront of most businesses if you couldn't forward its ports. You're probably using the SDM GUI (which is a piece of shit and should be avoided) -- use the cli if youy want results
I own two of these and manage dozens more, they are amazingly robust and reliable routers.
Couldn't take a photo, had to use internet, there weren't that good images on google
