ATI Radeon 6000 Series "Before the End of the Year"

And what games are being produced that require this massive increase in performance? I'm running a single 4890 with my Phenom II X4 955, and I'm still able to play the vast majority of all games being released on maximum settings, (excluding Metro 2033, Crysis, etc.).

like I said, there is no massive increase in performance.
Already?
I wonder how much the 5 series prices will go down.
like I said, there is no massive increase in performance.
I see, that makes much more sense. I don't see the need of creating a whole new series just for a die shrink, then.
All of this news about ATIs second generation cards are just wild speculation, it hasn't even been confirmed by AMD yet. The only thing that has been confirmed is that there will be a new generation released before the end of this year. The branding of these new cards are in the ballpark, no one knows what it will be called. Southern Islands is not an entirely unique chip versus Cypress, it's more of a tweaked refresh in preparation for Northern Islands, who knows how well it will perform. Cypress has lots of room for improvement on the node, so it's likely something good will come out of this, despite still on 40nm. However, I don't think it deserves a major version change from 5xxx to 6xxx for a minor node change, I just can't see it happening, unless there are good performance improvements. It's a little risky if they do that, people might react to it differently if it is called 6xxx versus 5890/5950 whatever you wanna call it. As for Northern Islands, that will be on the 28nm process as 32nm was canceled at TSMC and Global Foundries so it set them back a bit, but it will have major changes done to it, but there is hardly any information about it, all we can do is predict.
So yeah, don't really pay attention to these articles unless it has been confirmed by AMD, I just hate it when they assume shit like this
If you'd have bothered to look in the article I linked then you would have seen that it was the CEO of AMD who was quoted as providing the information.
I see, that makes much more sense. I don't see the need of creating a whole new series just for a die shrink, then.
see GeForce 9XXX and GT3XX, a lot of the cards in those series were rebrands of 8XXX and GT2XX cards.

It's just a marketing gimmick.

Bleh, I'm just butthurt. If it brings down 4XXX and 5XXX prices significantly I'll be happy.
GOTTA MOVE THAT GEAR UP
They also said the new processors should come out this year. But they have integrated graphics? :\

they have sort of an IGP accelerator. Kinda the same way intel's i3 does
It's just a marketing gimmick.
except a gimmick has no actual value, smaller die = cooler temps = higher overclocks

haha kewl (not)

Lets say things go your way, ATi releases, Nvidia does not. No competition means prices will go out the roof. Even if you are a die hard ATi fanboy you have to recognize the importance of a competitor.
Personally I don't think the 6000 series will be as good as the 5000 series in value and relative performance.
Don't get me wrong. Im not a fanboy of either brand. I had both gpu. radeon for desktop and nvidia for laptop. Im just saying the facts.

no you're not you're sucking ATI's dick for no reason while NVIDIA currently has the best price:performance card

6000 series COULD change that
Or they could be assholes and charge $500 for a 6870/whatever it is
6000 series COULD change that

well someone already said that a bench was leaked and only showed a 5% increase over the 5 series, so don't get too hyped
With Crossfired 5770's, I'm not upgrading until new games start dropping below 10 FPS, and by then the 8000's may well be out.
Exactly this.
Exactly this.
Well I have a 4670 setup so by Christmas hopefully I can get a 6000 series card. Or I could just get a 5770, if it drops to really low to like $100.
Anyways, something that everyone can look forward to is the inevitable price drop in the 5000 series once the 6000s come out.
no you're not you're sucking ATI's dick for no reason while NVIDIA currently has the best price:performance card
Fine whatever. I ain't arguing no more.
Just hope they don't use price gouging on this one since they are almost without competition.
You'll probably get larger memory and higher bandwidth, and if you're lucky, and a larger lane to push all that higher bandwidth through.
Well I can't play Metro 2033 on maximum with 4890 CF, what the fuck have you done ?
it says right there, excluding Metro 2033
I'm still using a HD4670 :saddowns:
lucky you, I'm using a HD 4650, that has been downclocked
Oh good, they'll reach the 9000 series again sometime next year which means my old pc's ATI 9550 will be good again. :buddy:
I'm going to do a new build sometime next summer probably, it's great that new generations of GPUs are coming out before that time. Finally there will be a worthy replacement for my 4850. Sure the current top cards like 5870 and GTX470/480 are already worthy replacements, but they're a bit too expensive and power hungry for my taste. So even if it's just a die shrink, it'll be great.
well someone already said that a bench was leaked and only showed a 5% increase over the 5 series, so don't get too hyped
The Nvidia ones were pretty accurate (except in some games) when they said a 10% increase over the 5000-series. Though that would mean that the 6000-series are on average 5% slower than the 400-series, and I doubt ATI would release the 6000-series that are slower than the competitor's current generation.
Yeah I can't believe that the 6000 series are comming out already. I bought the best possible graphics cards and I don't think I will ever update my system again (unless something breaks). I forsee myself playing Starcraft II and Diablo III for a very long time...
I would skip the 6-series and wait for the die-shrunk 7-series mid next year.
