You are mistaking bits per seconds for bytes per second - 512 bits per second is equivalent to 64 bytes per second. The speeds shown on downloads are bytes per second, the speeds shown by ISPs are bits per second.
He'll be able to watch horse racing in real time, find some graphs about loading time, nice visual stuff with some figures.
