While on the topic, what is the fastest ISP available in Brisbane with a reasonable bandwidth cap? (200GB+)
this is mine in the us
What did that do to help him at all?
While on the topic, what is the fastest ISP available in Brisbane with a reasonable bandwidth cap? (200GB+)
That's where I'm living, if someone could answer this it would make this so better
No it's our fucking ISP, like I said my mates across the road get better speeds and they're with bigpond, I'm not using wifi I'm using a blue cable.. What I need is to convince my dad we need to switch, I'll change the wifi mode to g only which means the back end of the house gets 1-2 bar connection.
Uhh... You're paying for 512Kb/s - and you're getting 410Kb/s. What is so hard to understand? Your plan is terrible. Your ISP is providing what you're paying for. Don't be rude.
AAPT is crap.
But: A A AAP AAPT SMART CHAT. Oh how i miss those ads :allears:
He said he knows his internet is shit and he knows he's getting what he pays for. The ISP isn't shit in this case, the plan is.
Bigpond, eeeh. I don't know. I'm on a 200GB Plan with my home phone, and this is what I get...
Use excel, make charts comparing costs. Above all - what's in it for him. What does he like? What could he spend the money on otherwise? Obviously he doesn't care about speed, so you have to go on the cost angle. Say "dad - Now, what if someone had a way to save XXX dollars so you could buy a new XYZ/more ABCs/go out to ZBX more often, and you only had to spend ten minutes filling out a form." Graphics are helpful too, so as I said before, use excel.

You're paying for 512 kilobits and you're getting 410 kilobits.

The speeds shown on downloads are bytes per second, the speeds shown by ISPs are bits per second. He'll be able to watch horse racing in real time, find some graphs about loading time, nice visual stuff with some figures. Is the plan you're looking at more expensive or less expensive?

Get your own internet.
Get your own internet.
Buy a broadband stick? No thanks
Okay boss whatever you say
Haha, you just proved what I said. 410Kb/s is a maximum of 51KB/s. You're downloading at 47.2KB/s.
Haha, you just proved what I said. 410Kb/s is a maximum of 51KB/s. You're downloading at 47.2KB/s.
Oh Jesus :smith:
So not only can he spend more on betting, he can update it faster too! For very little work, it should be worth it. DogGunn is right about the speeds btw.
Oh Jesus :smith:
Notice the b's. b is for bit, B is for byte. 1 byte = 8 bit.

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=47.2+Kilobytes+in+Kilobits
I feel like an idiot now, I think I might type kill in the console.
Well, don't nag him. As others have said, make comparisons if you must. Tell him you'll do what you can to help or something.
hell fill out the transfer form for him so all he has to do is sign [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] then get him drunk!
Well, don't nag him. As others have said, make comparisons if you must. Tell him you'll do what you can to help or something.
Yes I will do that :)
I wish I would live in Australia.
What you should do is have torrents open 24/7 so it lags the entire line to fuck. Then your dad will be like unable to do anything so he'll switch ISP. :v:
I wish I would live in Australia.
Why is that?
I wish I would live in Australia.
no you don't
no you don't
We're actually pretty good.
no you don't
australia treat you badly? nawwww
