We bailed on our 10/2 wisp service and just got 100/10 by getting cable hooked up at our neighbors house and shooting it to our house and another with some nanostation loco m5s we had laying around. They don't live in the house and all they wanted in return was basic cable. Installer mentioned they're eventually gonna crank up the speeds so I have that to look forward to.
I wish I can bail on my 2/.5 wisp and the people down the road from me only have max packages of 10/2 on cable and the service is very speratic.
We need more LTE-based solutions that are cheaper.

What ISP's do you get up there? I'm locked to Comcast or CenturyLink (which everyone at this apartment complex bitches about.)

I'm way out rural in Florida and I'm about to jump from CenturyLink 10/1 to Comcast 150/20 (est up speed). I just have to convince myself that what I'm doing is morally acceptable...
I think BT needs a kick up the arse with its fibre pricing personally, too expensive against other neighbouring countries considering the speed.
Got my Oneplus One screen replaced today. Half the screw holes weren't a perfect fit so the back cover doesn’t fit perfect but the case holds it together.
Atleast it is better than the Galaxy Core I used, time to root this phone now. Damn good how the screen is actually readable and I can have multiple apps open without crashing.

Comcast, CenturyLink

Westminster doesn't get anything special unfortunately. I think we have Rise too if you're a masochist.
You would think with a company the size of Google they would be able to make a CDN that can stream 720p videos but no, they evidently cannot.

Right half worked fine, then the video started buffering like a motherfucker because 200 KiB/s isn't enough for 720p. Then I did a speedtest where it went to full line speed so it's not congestion on the network either. Meanwhile, with youtube-dl in the Netherlands.

Might wanna check in with your ISP. Some of them change the way YouTube works for whatever reason.
I realized today my soundcard is over 8 years old. Guess I can't complain since a friend sold it to me at half it's price several years ago.

My "soundcards" have always been in the motherboard.
My "soundcards" have always been in the motherboard.
And to add to that, they are now perfectly good for the majority of uses. I'd probably argue even nowadays a PC is a perfect companion to a sound system and could replace every sub-system of one.

I can still hear the difference between a bargain tier motherboard and a great tier motherboard, but otherwise I agree.
Although when dabbling with studio grade audio or needing specific input/output ports, a dedicated sound-card is still a must.
I originally bought the card when I had a fairly cheap motherboard and didn't have a lot of money to spend on a new one so the $40 i spent genuinely did improve my audio quality at the time. Plus most of the ports on the back of my current motherboard are dead anyways so without the card I wouldn't even have any audio input or output.

I often use my recording interface as a soundcard. Not sure if it sounds better than the integrated card, but I feel like it has better separation.
Still have to fix my headphones. Been suffering too much without them.
I just like having native ASIO support, MIDI interface and XLR inputs.
Plus it looks cool on my desk :v:

But yeah, definitely not something everybody needs.

Imo, the more expensive motherboards are more reliable in the quality of output, not necessarily always noticeably better quality in all configurations.
Sometimes the cheapest hardware sounds crystal clear, until you plug in a GPU.
Am I mad for wanting something like a YM3812 to return to PCs? It would find a use in old games and would be very fun to tinker about with for making music. Obviously the traditional on-board audio would remain for other purposes.

Why not a YMF262 instead? v:v:v
I'm glad that Creative has emulation of both chips down pat for over 20 years.
Also SoundFonts. Those are awesome.

external sound "cards" are totally different than pci ones though, and i can see the use cases for them

That seems like an option too, who knows. It may turn out these chips are totally inoperable with modern PC components which would be a damn shame.

Hey man, the Live! and Audigy series was niiiice. They even released mac drivers for them.

I plopped my Audigy into the ol' PCI slot a while ago, and the thing keeps on working fine even on Windows 10 (surprisingly).
The new MacBooks....

Windows 8/10 no longer have an iconic startup sound as well anymore, so this isn't really surprising.

To be fair, it's a massive embarrassment to have your laptop go "DUUUUUUNNNNNNNNN" on full volume in the middle of a class with 200 students

I had a mate at uni who had his text message sound set to the Mac chime so if he forgot to put his phone on silent in a lecture and it went off the lecturer wouldn't really care as much if you turn on your laptop in the lecture vs not putting your phone on silent.
I prefer SPDIF (I use toslink) & USB Interfaces... There's always some sort of interference with DAC conversions so close to your other components...
