I had Doom demo installed, so I turned it on, cranked the settings to ultra, and AA to the correct mode (TSSAA 8x or whatever it is). (Screenshotting refused to work with Vulkan) [t]http://i.imgur.com/bOeC2mW.jpg[/t] What the fuck. I refuse to believe the game was actually running at ultra settings. That's ridiculous, considering my CPU, if that's actually 100FPS with ultra.
do you have and AMD gpu? Id did some crazy wizardry for amd hardware
I wonder how the new MacBook will play with Windows, especially with the touch ID bar. Maybe it will just map regular function keys when running in Windows.
I dunno exotic hardware is pretty cool
Williamette + RAMBUS = The ultimate suck. Not even SUCC. The combination was famously slow and Nvidia levels of hot. Gimmie a MIPS R12000 any day (ignore my title)
Just got an LG G3 from my dad and I went ahead and restored factory settings... Now I'm getting a kernel crash on startup :suicide:
I <3 Windows permissions :suicide:
I'm staring at this wiring diagram for a pump and I'm trying to figure out why the field guy is saying he spliced 3 phase, 240v AC power into the 24v DC Control terminal blocks. Like how do I even word this question on the clarification sheet.
Does any one have any thoughts or experiences with the Surface 3's? They are having a pretty good sale on Amazon for the 3 series, and I wanted to grab the i5 8GB RAM model. I don't plan on playing Crysis on it or anything, but I would like to do some basic school programming work, GMod dev, etc. Being able to launch GMod and play it on low would be a plus. I need something to replace my hulking laptop for when I am traveling as plane trays don't play well with heavy laptops. And Surfaces are cool, right...?

As simple as that.

Kind of sick of laptops, it's all I've had since I started buying computers, until I built my desktop in Feb. Plus for $1000, that's steep.
Well the 3 Pro's still have plenty of firmware issues that Microsoft doesn't seem to want to fix in a timely manner. Also hardware QC is alright but not great. Not as bad as the 4's are on that front.
tablets are garbage for actually getting work done, though unless you get a keyboard for them in which case you've just turned it into a laptop
Can confirm. Used a tablet for 2 years as a daily driver. Absolute shit for actually getting work done.
Finally ordered the new Macbook pro. Price was a bit intimidating, even for my wealth, but considering how well my 2010 Macbook pro served me for the last 6 years on a daily basis, I feel I can easily justify it. Can't wait to have crisp as fuck text, sane display scaling and a decent UNIX system as my new workstation.
Have fun with the dongles and adapters! But realistically just get those hubs which makes things cleaner and more useful. Why get a USB-C to USB-A 3.0 when you can get a hub to split that to 4 full speed USB 3 ports. There's other hubs with HDMI output, USB-C pass through and other good stuff.
tablets are garbage for actually getting work done, though unless you get a keyboard for them in which case you've just turned it into a laptop
I love my SP3 but if I'm honest its largely down to aesthetics. It also fully depends on what someones requirements are. Most of the time my surface is a Netflix machine that I use while I'm working on a desktop machine/in bed/on the train, but the ability to use it to work on documents while I'm away from a desk/in meetings/ignore emails/as an ipmi or ssh client is very handy. After using it for just over a year its so ingrained into my workflow it would be annoying to go without it and I think my productivity would probably take a hit.
If you're gonna be using it in laptop mode a lot, get a proper convertible, not a tablet-with-small-keyboard-attachment. And (fast, high-end) proper convertibles are absolutely fine for development work.

New Core M (as much as you hate them), 4gb RAM, keyboard attachment is solid and has more battery in it. It's fairly easy to disassemble too. Some pressure clips and you've got removable battery, m.2 drive, and wireless card. Just soldered RAM which blows. An ULV i5 model would be nice though.
I'm talking about a Windows tablet comparable to a Surface Pro 1, not an oversized phone.
I think I've seen things marketed as tablets that are smaller than my N6.

Leaving aside the Core M, 11" screen (and though it's 1080p, at 204 DPI, even I would have to use that with scaling), 128GB system drive (SDKs these days can take up a ton of space, especially for mobile platforms), tops out at 8GB RAM (which is still okay but won't be for that much longer).
I'm talking about a Windows tablet comparable to a Surface Pro 1, not an oversized phone.
Ah, I used the Surface Book a while back and it seemed to work really well. But it was overall good, had a lot of I/O ports and the keyboard was really good. Best one I've seen so far is the Surface Book but it costs a few arms and legs. At the time, I also got the Surface Dock and it was kinda dodgy sometimes but when it worked, it works great. They also did an update recently where it added a higher end CPU and GPU options.

help I removed the /var directory did my production server go down Basically the center I'm running just got put on a time bomb to shut down and I'm an intern with like, 3 months left on my contract and absolutely no obligations and a bunch of spare machines. I've got a bunch of servers lying around and can basically do what I want with them which is pretty cool. Think a hugely big home lab with a bunch of toys Wondering if you guys have set up some cool stuff in the past that was fun and would recommend trying out if someone's got the time. I've done a bunch of virtualization stuff using ESX and HyperV, so I'm familiar with that and the concepts behind it, and I've done some Docker and some configuration management stuff too. I've done pretty much most things you'd expect in a really barebones medium-sized datacenter. Basically I'm at a loss for how to fill in my time for the next 3 months and am looking for some leads. Anything you guys have done in the past that you thought was super cool and would recommend would be appreciated just don't want to sit here and twiddle my thumbs and not learn anything
