I really get the feeling some sort of rot is really starting to set in at Apple now with even their fanbase complaining about what they are doing.
Everyone on reddit says there is not need to upgrade an i5 2500k to an i7 6700k
i5 2500K + R9 290 -> BF1 = ~50fps (low settings)
i5 2500K @4.2GHz + R9 290 -> BF1 = ~60fps (low settings)
i7 6700k + R9 290 -> BF1 = ~140fps (ultra settings)
(also upgraded ram from DDR3 1333 to DDR4 2400)

Why an i7 for games though?
I made it work somehow, set 3 ports into cisco router, switch and access point respectively and then 2 ports to desktops and BAM it works.
The damn switch sounds like a plane though
Do you have a console cable? You'll need one of those before doing anything.

Though if you're just "splitting" the connection, you could get away with whatever cheap dumb switch you can get your hands on.
Could do it through the browser!
If you are transferring it to an SD card inside your phone it's because WPD framework is the worst thing ever invented. If that's the case just use a file explorer with a built in FTP server + Filezilla or something.
Nah, transferring directly to the card via card reader & adapter.
I don't have this problem with other cards, but then again I only see this problem when trying to transfer stuff to it via the PC - the phone itself doesn't have any issues writing to and reading from it.
Why an i7 for games though?
Not just for games, but i was really bored of having less than 60fps in some games.
Not just for games, but i was really bored of having less than 60fps in some games.
I think you'll find the framerate is more due to the RAM speed than the processor. I've got a 6600k at 4.4 GHz and games still go under 60 because 1333 MHz just isn't fast enough. WoW in particular just goes at 45 FPS with GPU at like 60% load (and CPU is 1.2 GHz higher clock on a 3 generation newer processor than the recommended spec).
I went from 1333MHz to 2600MHz, and the difference was incredible.
I'm stuck on tethered HSDPA, what are some decent sites to kill time on that don't use up much of my precious monthly GB?
Note to self: check CMOS battery and replace it if computer randomly doesn't turn on anymore.
Over the years I've perfected my computer troubleshooting order: reboot, reboot again, check wall-to-case power, check if everything's seated correctly (connectors, but ALSO any cards and RAM), check the CMOS battery (even just reseating it has miraculously brought dead computers back), and only then start taking things apart.

$1600+ for a 2.7ghz dual core with 8gb of ram and integrated graphics

My planned order which is stuck in limbo now did cost 3000$ for a 15" mbp with an i7, 16gb of ram and PCI 512gb SSD, and that AMD GPU (I don't know AMD stuff so I'm just gonna refer to it as "that GPU").
Mind you, that same hardware config costs "only" 2k in the US. Just for reference. Switzerland is just so much more expensive in general.
I'm fine with the price but for that price I want something that doesen't have any weird quirks, especially ones caused by their decision to USB-C and Adapter everything.
I'm tempted to go from an i5 2400 to a 6600k just because of the sheer stuff I want to do with my PC. New case, PSU, GPU, additional hard drive (And maybe SSD for Linux) and 4k blu-ray compatible optical drive.
Does anybody here use a 15.6 inch laptop with 1366x768 resolution? Is it bothersome? I have been considering purchasing a new laptop, I found a good deal but the screen resolution is 1366x768. I do not use anything like 4K at my desktop or even any of the devices in my home, in fact my desktop display is 1920x1200 at 24 inches, so I was thinking maybe it is not that bad if I am used to that.

13" and below is the only close to acceptable size for 1366x768. At 15.6" it's infuriating. It's infuriating no matter what, not just because of shitty pixel density but your desktop real-estate is absolutely tiny. You will find some application you use regularly that has windows with a minimum height larger than the display.

Okay then. I suppose I will have to look for a better deal. Seems as if Full HD is gradually becoming mainstream for laptops about that size anyhow.
Using 1366x768 on a 12" here and it's barely acceptable imo

I feel like at the top end it's maybe a little more justifiable because it's like the equivalent of spending your money on a supercar (ie status symbol, physical high quality + good specs to boot, etc etc)
At the low end it just makes you seem misinformed, like someone spending $80k on a Honda Civic for some reason
Alright so switched out the Cisco Catalyst 2950 for a Linksys WRT45GL for the time being. The wifi sucks dick though, ping jumps between <50 to >1000 all the time and it disconnects randomly. Have any of you guys experienced this and know a fix, or should I just consider the router dead?

Oh dear, it seems to cost a fortune for same exact specifications but with Full HD (1080p) display, wtf.

I thought about it too, but then I realized it would be almost $500 to get a new Mobo, i7, RAM, etc. I can't justify it.
I'm not feeling the crunch yet, so I guess I stick it out with the 2500k.
All you people talking about being on 2500ks, while I'm still rocking the i7-920.
Zen, please be good.

920 is a damn fine CPU though. I still have one running OC'ed in my brothers machine.
Just give it a little nudge in voltage.

I could do with a bit of a boost to video recode times. My current rig takes ages for even an hour long video but again its more of a luxury to have more than anything else.
Hey guys, I usually buy a cheap logitech mouse that lasts me a year/ year and half before the buttons break, then i have to buy a new one. I was thinking of maybe instead of buying the cheap one every time, I splurge on a more expensive one with the though that it will last longer and thus outlive 3-5 cheaper mice. Your thoughts? Im thinking of a logitech g mouse or maybe even mx.
nah, logitech mice are logitech mice and will break after a certain amount of time
you will be spending a similar amount of money either way, just have a few extra buttons
they are generally easy to fix and just have the common issues of microswitches getting dirty (electronics cleaner) or the cord shorting out where it meets the mouse (resolder)

Only if you want a broken middle mouse button in 6 months.
i guess that's why my middle button is still working three years later
[sp] but yeah the failure rates for the middle click are pretty high, it's not a terribly hard fix though[/sp]
Because fuck your sanity, its Saturday night, I'm going to make you freak out that a part died that you can't buy until Monday after work. That might work. Fortunately it was just a battery, which is easy to find, but power supplies and motherboards are a little harder to come by on short notice. :v:

Motherboard had a 3 year warranty. Its been 3 years and 6 months since I bought it. Checks out.
Sounds like you need a Microcenter.
