For the US users on here who have AT&T: has anyone else made the change over to the new AT&T plan that has no data overages, but is supposed to be throttled after you hit your cap?
Because for me and a lot of other folks, we're not getting throttled and effectively have unlimited high speed data. I would recommend making the switch while this is still a thing. I wrote a post about it here. Trying to see if anybody has gotten an answer from AT&T as to what their plan is with this.
I have reinstalled Windows on my Surface and waited for hours but it is STILL stuck on "Checking for updates..." I am starting to suspect that Microsoft is blocking updates for Surface Pro 3 with Windows 8.1, unless that may be rather far-fetched. My desktop with 8.1 finishes updating in 10 seconds.
Have you tried running WSUS Offline? It will downloads a ton of the Windows Updates manually and installs them that way. I used it when Windows 7 takes a bitch and a half to update.

I've got unlimited data thanks to a DirecTV account
I've got unlimited data thanks to a DirecTV account
Does that get throttled as well?
I get unlimited with T-Mobile. I think it only throttles if I go past 25gb, but I've only ever hit 22gb.
[editline]11th November 2016[/editline]
I also don't have their bullshit one unlimited plan that throttles all video down to 480p. I got the real unlimited plan
For example: I have the 40GB data plan with AT&T. I used 66GB last month at full speed, no throttling AT ALL. AT&T is trying to say it is due to the coverage in my area being to good they don't need to throttle me (roughly translated from what they were trying to say in their broken Phillipino-English.)
Which, makes sense, as everyone in my area either is on Cricket, Straight Talk, or have flip phone still because technology and the proliferation of high speed internet is the work of the devil.
Does that get throttled as well?
After 22gb it gets deprioritized. But they really doesn't mean straight throttling. There's plently of places I'd be where I wasn't getting throttled, but then I'd go to like midtown Memphis on a Friday and I'd get throttled.

Needs a higher quality font like papyrus or comic sans to match the great colour choices.

I'm wondering if that's what they're doing out where I live. I'm about 40 miles outside of Fort Smith Arkansas, aka bumfuck nowhere.

They didn't throttle me back when I lived 30 minutes north if Vicksburg, MS. Aka also bumfuck nowhere.

No, so I tried it, all the updates were installed successfully by the looks of it. Thanks I guess.
On the other hand, I think I found the best deal so far for a new laptop. Windows 10 Pro, Microsoft Office Home and Business Premium, Core i5-7200U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, weighs just 1.4 kg, 20 hour battery, 14 inch Full HD anti-glare display, and an internal Blu-ray disc drive, for $2300. How is that, should I go for it? Manufacturer is Panasonic but it probably means nothing to anybody outside of Japan.

As someone who owns CF-18 Toughbooks sold here and in Japan, I can tell you that when you are overseas and you try and get tech support the drone on the other end of the line is not going to like finding your "foreign" configurated model, mainly because to their books your configuration does not exist.
God Damn it. I bought a new xbox one s two weeks ago and it's a huge pos. It keeps restarting and disconnecting from my wifi and now it says I need to log in to play my games....even though I'm already logged on. Couldn't be at a shittier time to deal with support.
So if I spoof my mac address on my wifi adapter does that mean wifi hotspots like twc wifi which give you a free 2 hour trial... Could techically do unlimited free trials?
remember to wipe potential cookies if they're doing authentication in a browser window.
Worst way to use these hotspots is to use a packet sniffer and to use somebody elses cookies to connect for permanent free usage.
But changing the mac address works fine too.

What model of the S do you have?
On another forum:
I found a post "Windows 3.1 CD-ROM driver" 1 Sep 2009 which suggested copying oakcdrom.sys & mscdex.exe from a WIN98SE startup floppy to C:\ & adding mscdex /d:mscd001 to autoexec.bat & device=oakcdrom.sys /d:mscd001 to config.sys.
This worked to enable reading from the CD drive but I can't write to it.
Is there something else I should do?
Fucking newbs.
Is there any important differences between the various domain name registrars? Just wanting a proper domain instead of using free subdomains so I have the MX records to spam myself using mailgun.
I have no idea how this shit works.

Basically just go with anything that isn't Godaddy and offers some form of whois protection
I've always gone with namecheap, they work well enough and do free shit like dynamic DNS

Woke up this morning and the exactly 10 years on the day old hp LP1965 i have started doing this. No physical damage or jostling, im half suspecting HP did the same thing they did with their printers and had it fail after a certain age. In any case, any of the hardware oriented people have suggestions on what i'd do if i wanted to open this up and attempt a fix? (or even any better places to ask)
(i've verified it's the monitor not the gpu, cable or anything else, it happens on the unplugged monitor just using the OSD settings menu)
Regardless, looks like it'd still be a useful secondary monitor if just used for text chats and such.
I have this instructor in university who keeps mixing spaces and tabs, making Godfiles, using multidimensional arrays and multiple folders for website translations, and then goes on to talk shit about PHP frameworks because they just "complicate" things for no return. I swear this guy spends at least quarter of each class shitting on Microsoft like some 13 year old FOSS poser. He argued with me that interpreted software is always faster than compiled software and opened up Microsoft's website in his browser and showed up the source code of the page to prove his point to the rest of the class and get me to agree. I can't even tell if this guy is trolling or not but apparently he has been around for years and literally talks about good old days of mixtape to mp3 conversions as if he is some 80s UNIX guru. Guy literally thought that I was showing off in front of the class when I decided to wrap my HTML checkerboard table generation code inside a function to allow for easy alteration of row, column size and colors.
Do not trust third-world CS/IT degrees.

I had an instructor at university who insisted that we use .htm for our web pages instead of .html, because "Windows has problems with file extensions of more than three characters sometimes".
He was the department head.
Do not trust American CS/IT degrees either.
Oh damnit.
I just got my free EVGA powerlink in the mail today...and it doesn't fit in my case. Drive cages in the way.
Don't trust IT degrees in general. They're a sham.

I discovered the same issue Thursday when mine showed up. Oh well v:v:v
