I'm pretty sure if the price of the AirPods was reduced significantly this wouldn't even be as much of an issue
What if people want to use existing wired earbuds or headphones (or just ol' fashioned line-out) while charging? Welcome to adapter & dongle jungle, because fuck practicality, lets all masturbate over vapid ~asthetics~ and thinness. I already see enough people dragging around various adapters & USB hubs because a seller at some IT store got them to buy a ultrabook instead of a ol' fashioned laptop that had the ports built-in. Now I get to see them do the same with iPhones too.
What rock are you living under that makes you think dropping a headphone jack is a great idea? lmao. [editline]asdas[/editline] FUCK I missed my 10000th post!
And people similarly complained when Apple dropped the CD/DVD drive and nobody seems to give a shit now? Sorry - something that might be a bit more relatable to you would be when PCs and Laptops ditched floppy disks.

Nothing viable has replaced 3.5mm yet. And honestly, what could? It's an analog jack, that's perfect for audio.
This went very well. I'm now waiting for my interview at a telemarketing firm. I'm putting my fingers in ALL the pies.
I got this job. I also have 4 more electronic job applications out, but I doubt those will bear fruit.

There's also the difference between a physical media that got replaced by another physical media (USB storage devices), versus replacing a physical & universally used connector with a wireless technology that requires more R&D and also components, especially the battery (and battery life) is gonna be a real bitch when designing, and thus jacking up price. And as previously mentioned, basically excludes older but still functional audio devices meant for 3.5mm headphone connectors, unless you love clunky adapters.

Something that these days you can get anywhere for just about free. Even I didn't cry when floppy was dropped from modern laptops. Also my experience with bluetooth audio devices has been rather shitty. Basing a lot of my judgement off several bluetooth to POTS bridges if you can't sustain a 300 baud link without heavy error correction I don't wanna listen to my vaporwave.
No idea why everyone is getting so angry/upset about the iPhone jack thing, if you don't like it just don't buy the phone or get a 6S instead or something? Can't stand all the entitled people complaining about Apple's business decisions when they aren't exactly being forced to buy the phone or whatever /rant (Sorry)
Vendor lock in a serious drawback with ios, A feature missing from the newest phone can be a major issue with no easy way out. Unless somehow GOG Connect for ios to Android exists.

It's not like someone is going to literally force you to buy and use an iPhone now that they've removed the 3.5mm jack from it. What you should do you if you do not approve of this decision is simply not buy the phone and buy one which does have the things you want on it.

That doesn't make Apple's decision any less objectively stupid.

For example, me. I use my wonderful over-ear headset with my 6S constantly. Including while charging it. That's honestly about 50% of the time I'm using the headset with it. It's not like removing floppy drives and optical drives, which have mostly outlived their usefulness. The 3.5mm jack is used constantly by many people, professionals or not. Removing it only to make the phone thinner is stupid. Why not keep the phone the same thickness and have better battery life and not piss everyone off?

Also, what if I was planning on getting the iPhone 7 anyway, but I'm still disappointed in the lack of an audio jack? Am I allowed to complain about it then? That's pretty much the case with half the people here.
Removing it only to make the phone thinner is stupid. Why not keep the phone the same thickness and have better battery life and not piss everyone off?
That's the funny thing, I don't think the iPhone 7 is thinner in any way. Getting rid of the headphone jack was a deliberate decision, not a tradeoff from making the phone thinner.
Of course, but there's people acting like it's the end of the world
Everyone else stopped doing it because it impacted their sales. Apple's idea that this doesn't matter is pure RDF influence and they are riding on that influence to prop up the sales.
Of course, but there's people acting like it's the end of the world
What about for those deep in the Apple ecosystem? Sure you can say just stick with a 6s now, but Apple isn't one to backpedal on design choices. This will become a problem for many.
Start moving. I did it once. Went from a 4S to an S4.
Did you really have any apple specific programs you relied on though? I'm talking about more than just having an iphone.
Oh well, all I care about now is that the previous iPhones should be cheaper now. My mom wanted an iPhone for ages since her Moto G wasn't cutting it on the photo side of things, among other things.
What the fuck is that with the ipad stylus thing? What's going on there?
That's how you charge it. Because it's battery powered.
That's how you charge it. Because it's battery powered.
No fucking way. That's almost as stupid as the mouse you have to turn upside down to charge. ...why does a stylus need a battery anyway?
Stylus mounted buttons?
Nope. Wacom pulls it off just fine. Although I think there's a patent issue there so, dunno.
Nope. Wacom pulls it off just fine. Although I think there's a patent issue there so, dunno.
I just looked it up, apparently it has pressure sensors and an accelerometer in it.
Nope. Wacom pulls it off just fine. Although I think there's a patent issue there so, dunno.
As if Apple cared about using someone else's patent anyway.
from a design standpoint, apple doesn't want you to charge the mighty mouse or apple pencil while using them so the charging points being how they are is for ~apple design~
from a design standpoint, apple doesn't want you to charge the mighty mouse or apple pencil while using them so the charging points being how they are is for ~apple design~
It's so people don't complain about the charging cable when using it. Apple's solution is to make it so you can't even use it to begin with.
Nope. Wacom pulls it off just fine. Although I think there's a patent issue there so, dunno.
I do believe that Wacom has held the patent for inductive multifunction pens and digitizers since the 80's and they do a damn good job restricting who uses the tech or more annoyingly, who manufactures pens. Off the top of my head the only other companies I can recall that use it are IBM, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Fujitsu.
