P sure you can still flash greens to red firmware to get rid of the aggressive head parking. Since its out of warranty you should do that.
Is it also weird I'd like to set like the idle drive spin speed. Would be neat to have drives spinning much slower like 3000RPM or something for much lower power usage but much faster initial access. Instead of fully spinning it down.
Though I do know the drive needs to spin a certain speed so the head can be air-lifted off the surface.
But I'll look into that option. It's TLER right? or maybe that's Seagates one. I do have two other 2TB Greens for backups I won't touch until there is a server for the data to go. I really shouldn't be buying harddrives until I have somewhere for them to go. But I just go and set my max bid for 2 cents per GB if it has good ratings, looks in good condition, etc.

I regularly browse from a 1ghz iMac G4. I find for most systems it's not the browser itself that destroys the performance (with a few exceptions, notably Firefox 3 on Irix where it's so badly unoptimized even a quad 1ghz tezro can barely handle it) it's shit like Flash and HTML5 which drag everything down.

You are aware that Firefox is single threaded and nothing past a second core for background programs is helpful right?

I didn't really want to get a new mouse, but I've heard so many good things about zowie's I ordered one (FK1). Hopefully it will last longer than this one. I wanted this to last a very long time.
Zowie fk1 and the fk2 are both good.
Would recommend.
Anyone ever made parity files like .par before? Was making an archive for a video collection I have and wanted others to be able to verify the integrity of it. It's more so a seeding download I'm storying on ACD. I'm part of another halo forum which has a big torrent of all the videos the community made from like 2002 to 2012.
I'm using 7zip to make 5GB 7z archives of each base folder of each game. And then was going to make a .par file of the original folder so people could verify it. But maybe just a txt file with an SH256 will be all I need. If people are getting repeatedly the wrong data, might be the archives that need fixing.
Purpose of the archive was so if people wanted to start seeding it on their server they could download the entire collection from me directly instead of worrying about contacting people to turn on their clients to let them leech it. So doing it all in 5GB chunks I thought would be a straightforward option.

Such an incredibly odd placement of buttons.:disgust:
That product page is terrible.
There's also these which would take some getting used to.

the slack isn't the problem, it just bends at the connector regardless
I don't think vertical/ergonomic mice have ever been a thing until RSI/Carpal-tunnel became a big problem during the ~90ths.
It used to be a big media focus and they probably sold more copies to people afraid of the spooky injury that could lose you your job, rather then people who developed a problem.

Mine had a left click switch fail, and logitech replaced it with a 500S without me sending it back. Then I took it apart and fixed the switch, which you shouldn't ever do if you value your sanity. But now I have two mice

Yeah I had to have my 16 year old cat put down last year. It is tough.
My dog was put down a few weeks ago. He was maybe 14 or 15. It certainly gets easier, but there is that piece missing from your daily routine.
I don't know what's wrong with the Internet at my friends dorm room but it seems like 3 people can't play Overwatch on the same wifi at the same time without disconnecting all the time.

Probably. The speeds are 150/10 through cable and I have no idea where the router is, but it's probably a cheap router that services a bunch of people's devices too.

Lost my boy the other week. Whenever I'd use my computer, he'd sit next to my chair for absolutely ages. If I dared to use the stairs, he'd absolutely ram me out of the way to get to the top or the bottom first. It will get better, but I absolutely agree when you say there's a part that's just missing. Dogs don't make much noise unless they're barking, but damn does it seem quiet now. :(
I lost two cats back to back tragically a year ago, they were both really ill. Had to put one down before it got too severe and the other died in his sleep at 8 weeks of age. I still think I've never been the same since. You do get better, but after losing a pet there's something in you that's just... gone.
Just had a firetruck come by, looking for a fire alarm that hadn't gone off.
Nothing special, but I got on the website that lists all(/at least most) alerts that the emergency services receive.
Saw a post from Thursday.

Good thing I haven't ordered anything lately.
Care package not delivered
I have an older cat that's probably about to go soon.
She's an absolute sweetheart and the last of the three cats I grew up with, so I'm probably going to be a gibbering wreck when she finally goes...

fuck I'm tearing up just thinking about it
My parents were worried about allergies before I was born, so they killed their 2 bunnies.
Never had a pet in my life. Kinda wish they hadn't done that.
Man, T-Mobile can be pretty generous. My friend got a pre-owned LG V10, but the screen had some pretty bad image retention issues. So we tried exchanging it but they didn't have any available (at the moment anyway), so I talked them into giving her an LG G5 at no additional cost and reimbursing her for the otterbox and screen protector on the V10.
turned out better than expected :v:
i recently purchased a used inspiron 2100, threw crunchbang++ onto it with a new SSD, bought a new battery for it, and waiting for a broadcom crystal HD decoder to come in the mail
im having a blast with this thing
i seriously spent like $50 and im living the fancy life on my new 10in netbook
10/10 would recommend for a budget web browsing machine

I just revived a Acer Aspire 1810TZ by buying a used screen from eBay to replace the original busted one.
Also just ordered a 4GB set of ram for it (the variant I had only shipped with 2GB)
Been contemplating on getting a 'loose' mini pci-e socket and solder it in the bare spot besides the half-size for the wi-fi module and hope that's all needed for it to work, but I needed something to shove in there.
Was considering a modem card, but a video decoding card would probably be of more use.

Those are the ones with the rubberised lids, right? We had a few of those kicking around at a previous job, there were the perfect device to use for roaming around and reading barcodes off stuff for inventory purposes.
Our contracted installer loves netbooks because if one slides off the roof or gets fried in the rain, he grabs another one from the pile that he got off eBay for $50.
